This study focuses on the aspects of language and culture that correlate with sago processing sys... more This study focuses on the aspects of language and culture that correlate with sago processing systems and compound words. It also explains the language phenomena from the aspect of sago dimensions as a configuration of Irires community life. As it is observed, the Irires speakers distinguish between afes (male sago) lexicon and afaj (female sago) lexicon, as part of their life. In addition to the type of sago, there is also an agen-gen (navel) of mendow (sago) which is identical to humans. Likewise, the container used to accommodate the starch or the upper sago starch is called afes (male) and the lower part is called afaj (female).

The purpose of this study is to identify the role of social capital in the development of sustainable tourism in the Serangan Sub-District and to analyze the effect of government roles, community participation, and social capital on destination quality and sustainable tourism development in the Serangan sub-district. The result of this research shows that social capital norms in the Serangan sub-district has an important role in tourism development in the Serangan sub-district, where the norms in traditional villages in the Serangan sub-district are still very strong.

The objectives of this study are (1) to find out and identify types of deixis in the novel The Fault in Our Stars (2) to analyze the function of each deixis type found in the novel The Fault in Our Stars. The data were collected using documentation and observation methods using the reading and note taking techniwques. Qualitative method was used to analyze the data and the method were done by descriptive technique. The method of presenting the result of data analysis was the descriptive method and was done by argumentative technique. The result of the research shows that there are three types of deixis found in the novel The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, namely person deixis, spatial deixis and temporal deixis. This study is aimed to identify the kinds, functions, and meanings of rhetorical schemes applied ... more This study is aimed to identify the kinds, functions, and meanings of rhetorical schemes applied in Obama’s speech. The data of this study were taken by documentation method and note-taking technique from the winning speech delivered by Barack Obama on November, 4th 2008 at Grant Park in Chicago. The video is uploaded by Marc Schulz on October, 19th 2012 in YouTube and its transcript is available on ABC news (internet). In addition, the data were analyzed descriptive qualitatively using Holman’s theory about rhetorical devices (1960). This study revealed that there are three schemes in rhetorical devices namely phonological, morphological, and syntactical applied by Barack Obama. Furthermore, two functions applied are to give vivid example and to emphasize points. The meanings from applied rhetorical schemes are constructed based on the reference Obama does in his speech towards socio-historical events in America.

Specifically, it is aimed examining whether (or not) sociocultural aspects of power, distance, and rank of imposition (PDR) proposed by Brown and Levinson (1987) is applicable for hotel context. In addition, it was aimed at designing oral role play card used for the main research data collecting. The role play card focuses on speech act (SA) of request and refusal. Twenty hotel staff were involved in doing exemplar generation, and activity undertaken to list situations at hotel dealing with request and refusal, and to inventory two most widely occured situation of each SA to be used as topic of role play card. The card was piloted by involving three students to see whether they were appropriate and obtain input of correction both content and language before being used. It was concluded that PDR is not tottaly suitable sosiological aspect used for criteria in doing verbal interaction at hotel context as power and distace (P D) are not distinctive aspects.

The locus is in Seminyak Bali tourism area. The purpose of this paper is to (1) identify the forms of linguistic symbols as capital practiced in tourism, (2) to pattern the linguistic dominance over people (tourists) and economtal and the duality of structure. Research data indicate that the existence of language symbols has shifted from local character to global character. Language symbols as a representation of foreign capital in the streets of Seminyak Bali as a phenomenon of foreign capital domination practice in the realm of tourism. The results found: (1) forms of linguistic capital (foreign investors), (2) forms of linguistic domination of people (tourists) and the economy (goods), and (3) the legitimacy of linguistic capital.

The research was focused on inspecting the language form of the lexicon which influenced by Tambaraw culture phenomena. The present study aims at investigating evaluations and assessment of the THK ecosophy employed in the awig-awig text of Tenganan Pegringsingan village. The research aspires to reveal the value of relationship of human with the natural, social, and spiritual environments. The data of the research were taken from the written text of the awig-awig. The collected data were analysed using critical ecolinguistics approach, referring to evaluation theory proposed by Stibbe (2015) and appraisal Theory by Martin and White (2005). Bedulu Village in Gianyar Regency, Bali, is a village with high tourism potential. The village has beautiful natural scenery and archaeological heritage sites, which enable tourists to enjoy culture, nature, pilgrimage, and educational tourism. Although some efforts have been made by the locals to improve the quality of tourism, the management of tourism in Bedulu Village is still handled sketchily using a simple system, in addition to a lack of proper human resources and infrastructure. Therefore, Bedulu Village still requires further development for potential tourism attraction in order to become quality tourist destination in the future. The purpose of this study was to analyze the current situation of tourism in Bedulu and determine the necessary development needed for future tourism in Bedulu Village. The data collected from the object of research were analyzed using descriptive-qualitative analytical method. The results from this study are: While Bedulu Village has been adequately prepared in terms of tourist attractions and tourist accommodation, it is still in need of further development in areas, such as infrastructure, marketing, and the empowerment of local community. This will allow the village to stay competitive in the face of mass tourism of nearby places, like Ubud and lead to community's welfare, which in turn will secure future tourism of Bedulu Village.
