The presented survey aims to provide a better understanding about the management and reduction in the carbon footprint among production companies in Romania, as this sector is not usually included official strategies or studies. One hundred and three companies, selected based on voluntary sampling responses, were investigated using a 40-item questionnaire. The survey was applied to the manufacturing sector, including automotive, furniture production, and metal processing domains, which are locally representative and a good approximation of what small- and medium-sized firms look like across the EU, thus furnishing a good view of what takes place in other countries as well. These models consider the nonlinear regression dependencies between the radial stiffness of bearing supports and rotor speed of the shaft. As a result of the comprehensive application of the proposed approach, the algorithms of identification of the stiffness parameters of the bearing supports were proposed based on the critical frequencies of the rotor system. Additionally, the methodology for estimating the system of initial imbalances by the related displacements of the rotor axis in the correction and calculation cross-sections was improved. The proposed approaches based on the comprehensive application of the CAE software and computational intelligence systems allow conducting the modal and harmonic analysis and realizing the virtual balancing with the significant decrease of the preparatory and machine times without the loss of relative accuracy. Additionally, the developed mathematical models of free and forced oscillations of rotor systems were implemented as a program code of the operating files "Critical frequencies of the rotor" and "Forces oscillations of the rotors" within the computer algebra system that allows improving the dynamic balancing procedure in order to estimate the system of initial imbalances. The high accuracy of the proposed approach is confirmed by the verification of dynamic deflections of the rotor axis by the system of residual imbalances in accordance with the norms of vibration reliability.

As the number of people aged 65 and over will rise by 207 percent globally by 2050, the need for cardiac rehabilitation will significantly increase, as this is the main population to experience heart problems. To address this challenge, this paper proposes a new robotic exoskeleton concept with 12 DoFs (6 DoFs on each arm), with a symmetrical structure for the upper limbs, to be used in the early rehabilitation of cardiac patients after open-heart surgery. The electromechanical design (geometric, kinematic, and dynamic model), the control architecture, and the VR-based operating module of the robotic exoskeleton are presented. To solve the problem of the high degree of complexity regarding the CardioVR-ReTone kinematic and dynamic model, the iterative algorithm, kinetic energy, and generalized forces...

The wooden churches from Transylvania, Romania, are a unique and representative cultural heritage... more The wooden churches from Transylvania, Romania, are a unique and representative cultural heritage asset for rural communities, both in terms of architecture and the style of painting that defines them as monuments of national heritage. These churches are in danger of degradation because rural communities are beginning to abandon them for various motives (e.g., they are too small, are expensive to maintain, or are being replaced by modern churches, built of stone and modern materials). The reason behind their accelerated degradation is that they are covered with shingles that need to be periodically changed and repaired to prevent water from reaching the inner painting layer, a process that is, in many cases, ignored. Imperial gates are the symbol of these churches and separate the nave from the narthex. They are made entirely out of wood and were sculpted and painted manually by skilled craftsmen and still represent the central element of these churches, in terms of art and aestheti...

It comes to join ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 to form a trio of highly compatible best practice references of interest for many companies that want to become more competitive, especially from the manufacturing sector. For the past at least 20 years there have been many debates and studies on how to best go about using these standards together to set up an integrated management system. Of course, things seem easier now, but together with the benefits, there are also challenges to manage and some are quite significant. This paper discusses the implications of reaching this milestone and presents the results of a focus-group made among production oriented companies, that was aimed at probing the stakeholder community regarding its positioning in the new context. The focus is on the impact of the new regulations upon creating or upgrading an integrated management system, where relationships among components are the key to a successful implementation and to obtaining results.

One of the direct consequences of using digital devices to promote cultural heritage is to educate the endusers and to exceed their initial expectations regarding their interaction and engagement with cultural heritage assets. Creativity is encouraged and stimulated by technology; as a result, cultural heritage domain must use technologies and tools from various domains such as engineering (3D scanning), gaming industry (VR headsets), digital marketing (interactive screens) to create interactive exhibitions. These tools can be paired with classical cultural heritage exhibition methods to attract, engage and support end-users more efficiently and effectively by creating unprecedented interactive. For this endeavor more than 560 artifacts have been digitized, the monuments and the fortress have been digitally reconstructed and integrated in digital applications that were combined with classical museum exhibition methods. Research paper thumbnail of A Method to Determine the Nominal Diameter for Hip Joint with No “Pre-wear” Data

IFMBE Proceedings, 2014

ABSTRACT This paper presents a methodology for determining the initial diameter of the explanted ... more ABSTRACT This paper presents a methodology for determining the initial diameter of the explanted hip prosthesis based on scanning/measuring using coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and CAD processing of the obtained data. ISO 14242- 2:2000 shows two methods for determining wear of hip joint: gravimetric and measuring using CMMs. Only the second method (measuring using a CMM) can provide information regarding the position and the geometry of the wear print. Using CMMs to determine the hip joint’s wear with no “prewear” data involves finding the initial diameter of the prosthesis and then comparing the ideal surface with the real one which was determined using the explained scanning procedure. Most times there is no accurate measurement of the prosthesis before implantation to determine the real surface of the prosthesis. The presented methodology involves scanning the sphere so that it can calculate the deviation of the scanned points compared to a theoretical circle determined using CAD or numerical methods (roundness deviation). The scanning of the prosthesis or of a sphere can be done using at least three strategies: one of them offers the possibility of scanning complete circles and the other two only allow the scanning of arcs ( 12 or 14 of a complete circle’s circumference). The strategy enables the use of scan points for determine the deviation from circularity. Items that have a significant deviation from the nominal circle are the removed in a CAD program using for this purpose the roundness error map. The remaining points are used to calculate the sphere’s diameter and the center will then be taken as a reference to determine the area of the prosthesis that has wear.
