Under the umbrella of the European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT) a joint initiative started from three Sections and Committees of ESOT: EDTCO (European Donation and Transplant Coordination Organisation), ETHAP (European Transplant Allied Healthcare Professionals) and ELPAT (Ethical, Legal and Psycho‐social Aspects of Transplantation). The formal ‘kick‐off’ of the Advisory Board Meeting of the European Transplant Patient Organisation (ETPO) was during the ESOT congress in 2019. The aim was to produce a series of statements to serve as a path to dialogue between patients and transplant professionals and to define the next steps towards giving a voice to the patient network. To include the patients’ perspectives, two surveys have been performed. The results identified the unmet needs and lead to a proposal for future plans. Educational activities have since started leading to a patient learning workstream. All initiatives taken have one purpose: to include patients, give them a voice and build a foundation for collaboration between patients and transplant professionals. ESOT has created a platform for mutual understanding, learning and a collaborative partnership between ETPO and European donation and transplant professionals.

In contrast to the statement that base metals differ on their mode of action most of the manuscripts mistakenly rely on well-studied mechanisms for precious metals while proposing plausible mechanisms. Consequently, few literature examples are found where a thorough mechanistic investigation have been conducted with strong support either by theoretical calculations or experimentation. Therefore, we consider of highly scientific interest reviewing the last advances on mechanistic studies on Fe, Co and Mn on C-H functionalization in order to get a deep insight on how these systems could be handle to either enhance their catalytic activity or to study their own systems in a similar systematic fashion. We present the case of a 51-year-old female who developed abdominal pain and hematuria. Pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) reported an urachal mass with invasion to the bladder that was resected by partial cystectomy. On light microscopy the tumor resembled liver architecture, with polygonal atypical cells in nest formation and trabecular structures. Immunochemistry was positive for alfa-fetoprotein (AFP) and serum AFP was elevated. Hepatoid adenocarcinomas have been reported in multiple organs, being most commonly found in the stomach and the ovaries. Bladder compromise has been rarely described in the literature, and it has been associated with poor prognosis, low remission rates, and early metastasis.

Its applications include cardiovascular, gastrointestinal and urogenital systems imaging. Opto-acoustic endoscopy (OAE) allows the imaging of body parts through cavities permitting entry. The critical parameter is the physical size of the device, allowing compatibility with current technology, while governing flexibility of the distal end of the endoscope based on the needs of the sensor. Polymer optical fibre (POF) presents a novel approach for endoscopic applications and has been positively discussed and compared in existing publications. A great advantage can be obtained for endoscopy due to a small size and array potential to provide discrete imaging speed improvements. Optical fibre exhibits numerous advantages over conventional piezo-electric transducers, such as immunity from electromagnetic interference and a higher resolution at small sizes. Furthermore, micro structured polymer optical fibres offer over 12 times the sensitivity of silica fibre. We present a polymer fibre Bragg grating ultrasound detector with a core diameter of 125 microns. We discuss the ultrasonic signals received and draw conclusions on the opportunities and challenges of applying this technology in biomedical applications.

The ultrasonic sensitivity of intrinsic fiber optic interferometric sensors depends strongly of the material which is composed of. We compare experimentally the acoustic sensitivity of two fiber optic sensors based on singlemode silica optical fiber and multimode graded-index perfluorinated polymer optical fiber, respectively. Both sensors are designed for detection of optoacoustic wave sources with frequencies in the range from 100 kHz to 5 MHz. These results are also compared with a PVDF ultra wideband sensor. We evaluated detection of real world optoacoustic signals, generated from an optically absorbing object embedded in a tissue mimicking phantom, between our silica optical fiber sensor and an array of piezoelectric transducers. Reconstructed two dimensional acoustic images of the phantom are presented and compared with images obtained with the Laser Optoacoustic Imaging System, LOIS-64B, demonstrating the feasibility of our fiber optic sensor as a wideband ultrasonic sensor.

Research paper thumbnail of Highly Electron-Rich Pincer-Type Iron Complexes Bearing Innocent Bis(metallylene)pyridine Ligands: Syntheses, Structures, and Catalytic Activity

First, the unprecedented fourcoordinate complexes κ 2 E,E′-[ENE]FeCl 2 were isolated. Unexpectedly and in contrast to other related pyridine-based pincer-type Fe(II) complexes, the N atom of pyridine is reluctant to coordinate to the Fe(II) site due to the enhanced σ-donor strength of the E atoms, which disfavors this coordination mode. Subsequent reduction of κ 2 Si,Si′-[SiNSi]FeCl 2 with KC 8 in the presence of PMe 3 or direct reaction of the [ENE] ligands using Fe(PMe 3) 4 produced the highly electron-rich iron(0) complexes [ENE]-Fe(PMe 3) 2. The reduction of the iron center substantially changes its coordination features, as shown by the results of a single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of [SiNSi]Fe(PMe 3) 2. The iron center, in the latter, exhibits a pseudosquare pyramidal (PSQP) coordination environment, with a coordinative (pyridine)N→Fe bond, and a trimethylphosphine ligand occupying the apical position. This geometry is very unusual for Fe(0) low-spin complexes, and variable-temperature 1 H and 31 P NMR spectra of the [ENE]Fe(PMe 3) 2 complexes revealed that they represent the first examples of configurationally stable PSQP-coordinated Fe(0) complexes: even after heating at 70°C for >7 days, no changes are observed. The substitution reaction of [ENE]Fe(PMe 3) 2 with CO resulted in the isolation of [ENE]Fe(CO) 2 and the hitherto unknown κ 2 E,E′-[ENE]Fe(CO) 2 L (L = CO, PMe 3) complexes. All complexes were fully characterized (NMR, MS, XRD, IR, and 57 Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy), showing the highest electron density on the iron center for pincer-type complexes reported to date. DFT calculations and 57 Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy confirmed the innocent behavior of these ligands. Moreover, preliminary results showed that these complexes can serve as active precatalysts for the hydrosilylation of ketones.

The following complexes were prepared, isolated as perchlorate or tetraphenylborate salts, and characterized by UV/Vis, IR, and CD spectroscopy: [LNi 2 (μ-Lalaninato)] + (2), [LNi 2 (μ-L-valinato)] + (3), [LNi 2 (μ-L-prolinato)] + (4), [LNi 2 (μ-L-tyrosinato)] + (5a), [LNi 2 (μ-Dtyrosinato)] + (5b), [LNi 2 (μ-L,D-tyrosinato)] + (5c), [LNi 2 (μ-L-alanyl-L-alaninato)] + (6), [LNi 2 (μ-(L-alanyl) 2-Lalaninato)] + (7), [LNi 2 (μ-(L-alanyl) 3-L-alaninato)] + (8). Compounds 4, 5a and 6 were additionally identified by X-ray crystallography. In contrast to unsupported amino carboxylate complexes which typically contain five membered NO chelate rings, the [LNi 2 ] 2+ fragment selectively binds the α-amino acids and peptides via μ 1,3-bridging carboxylato groups. Coordination of the carboxylato coligands in this way confers dissymmetry on the complexes. The CD spectra of the syn,syn-bridged structures are significantly different from those of the NO chelates, and can distinguish between the two coordination modes. The encapsulation of the peptides increases their solubility in the solvent system MeOH-MeCN by up to two orders of magnitude. This is discussed in terms of the absence of intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions as indicated in the X-ray structure of 6.

Hence, achieving their interoperability in multiple contexts is essential when creating a Learning Object Repository. On the other hand, novel web videoconference services are available due to technological advancements. Several benefits can be gained by integrating Learning Objects into these services. For instance, they can allow sharing, co-viewing and synchronized co-browsing of these resources at the same time that provide real time communication. However, several efforts need to be undertaken to achieve the interoperability with these systems. In this paper, we propose a model to integrate the resources of the Learning Object Repositories into web videoconference services. The experience of applying this model in a real e-Learning scenario achieving interoperability with a web videoconference service is also described.

The same synthesis was reproduced by a green methodology using an ultrasonication reaction in a classical sonication bath. The structure of the new compound was confirmed by elemental analysis, IR, 1 H-NMR, MALDI-TOF-MS and EI-MS-spectra, UV-vis and fluorescence emission spectroscopy.
