The aim of this study is to present the prospective teachers' definitions of creativity, opin... more The aim of this study is to present the prospective teachers' definitions of creativity, opinions about promoting and preventing the creativity, thoughts on the teaching occupation skills and expectations from a lesson that develops creativity. The research group consisted of 5 prospective teachers from Hacettepe University, Department of Primary Education and Science Teacher Education 4 th grade students. For gathering data, focus group discussion technique was used. For the data obtained contend analysis technique was used. The views of prospective teachers interpreted by grouping as "creativity, behaviors promoting the creativity, behaviors preventing the creativity, relationship between teaching occupation skills and creativity and expectations from a lesson promoting creativity. The results indicated that prospective teachers explain creativity as thinking freedomly and emphasizing exceeding limits. The teacher should be a model to his students and especially gives importance communication with his students. SUMMARY Purpose and significance: One of the concepts mentioned directly or indirectly in any education stage from preschool to higher education and formal to informal education is creativity. Creativity and teacher qualities, opinions of prospective teachers about creativity, importance of an establishment a creative environment by the teachers, relationships between creativity and teacher behaviors and academic success, teacher attitudes in relation to advancing creativity through education, contribution of teacher behaviors on the development of creative thinking skills and so on studies are some of the examples that can be related with teaching- learning experiences. In this study the prospective teachers' definitions of creativity, opinions about promoting and preventing the creativity, thoughts on the teaching occupation skills and expectations from a lesson that develops creativity were investigated. Methods: In this study to present the prospective teachers' opinions in detail and realistic qualitative method was used. For gathering data, focus group discussion technique was used. Focus group discussion is a carefully planned series of discussions designed to obtain perceptions on a defined area of interest in a permissive, nonthreatening environment (Kruger & Casey, 2000). The research group consisted of 6 prospective teachers from Hacettepe University, Department of Primary Education and Science Teacher Education 4 th grade students. In this study, totally 5 volunteer prospective teachers, 2 female, 3 male were interviewed as a focus group discussion. For a discussion with prospective teachers a common day and time were determined. The discussion questions were given before as a written form in order to inform them. It was explained that the shared opinions of participants in focus group discussion would not be used except for that research and any opinion would be analyzed as right, fair, unfair, wrong or deficient. At the time of discussion, a tape recorder was used getting permission from participants to use it. The time of the discussion was limited to 2 hours 45 minutes. To obtain data content analysis technique was used. Categories were determined according to data got from contend analysis, and the responses of the students were coded and gathered in the determined categories. Results: The views of prospective teachers interpreted by grouping as "creativity, behaviors promoting the creativity, behaviors preventing the creativity, relationship between teaching occupation skills and creativity and expectations from a lesson promoting creativity. Discussions and Conclusions: Teachers or educators can be models in terms of promoting or unintentionally preventing the creativity. A prospective teacher can be respected to promote creativity, enable students to notice good models in their environment and observe their own behaviors. On the other hand, for the students realized that their creativities were prevented, this situation may give them an opportunity to produce eyesight on their own teaching in the future. The creative teachers who know what he/she will do can improve himself/herself on trust and show leadership behaviors. The prospective teachers' main purpose is not only passing a course but also always asking questions, endless wonderment and unlimited motivation.

The aim of this research is to determine life satisfaction perceptions of middle school teachers ... more The aim of this research is to determine life satisfaction perceptions of middle school teachers and to evaluate them in terms of independent variables. For this reason, survey research modelis used. The population of this research is Sahinbey central district located in the Gaziantep municipality consists of 3114 secondary school teachers. The research sample selected by the stratified sampling method consists of 526 teachers. In the study to determine the level of life satisfaction of teachers developed by the Diener, Emmons, Larsen and Griffin (1985) "Life Satisfaction Scale" is used. The analysis of the data first included descriptive statistics. Teachers' perceptions of life satisfaction varies according to the gender variable t-test to determine whether; experience, course work, school size and level of education varies according to the variables to determine whether the ANOVA test was performed. Life Satisfaction teachers' perceptions regarding the wording of the scale were evaluated according to the independent variables of gender, course load and school size variables did not differ significantly according to the perceptions of teachers. According to seniority in teacher perceptions of life satisfaction scale for teachers with 21 years or more showed significant differences in favor.

The aim of the study was to examine the effects of There is No Risk at My School Training Program... more The aim of the study was to examine the effects of There is No Risk at My School Training Program, prepared based on the problem-based learning approach, on the knowledge and skills about preventing and intervening against risk behaviors. The study was planned as experimental design as pretest-posttest without control group. The study group in the research comprised 81 school counselors employed in public schools in Kırşehir. Participants were randomly separated into four groups and the training program, which consisted of 30 hours and 24 sessions in total, was implemented to four groups over five days. Within the scope of the implemented program, scenarios which involve risk behavior and were prepared in accordance with the problem-based learning approach were presented to the participants in diverse ways at the beginning of every session and risk factors, protective factors, prevention and intervention methods were discussed in relation to the scenarios. Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test analysis was used in the research. Findings obtained in the research show that There is No Risk at My School Project Training applied to the experimental group caused a significant difference in the knowledge and skill level of school counselors related to risk behaviors.

Bu amaç bağlamında, araştırma durum çalışması (case study) biçiminde desenlenmiştir. Biyoloji öğretmen adaylarının bilimsel bilgileri günlük yaşamları ile ilişkilendirebilme düzeyleri ile ilgili verilere, yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılarak elde edilmiştir. Görüşme sorularından elde edilen verilerin analizinde ise, içerik analiz yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda elde edilen bulgulara göre; biyoloji öğretmen adaylarının bilimsel bilgilerini günlük yaşamları ile büyük ölçüde ilişkilendirebildiği saptanmıştır.

Bu araştırmanın amacı, meslek yüksekokullarına sınavlı-sınavsız geçiş sistemiyle yerleşen öğrenci... more Bu araştırmanın amacı, meslek yüksekokullarına sınavlı-sınavsız geçiş sistemiyle yerleşen öğrencilerin temel matematik becerilerini bazı demografik değişkenler açısından incelemektir. Bu araştırma nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden betimsel yöntemin, tarama modeli türlerinden ilişkisel tarama modelinde yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın örneklemini, Kırşehir'deki meslek yüksek okulları arasından birinden rasgele seçilen birinci sınıfta okuyan 280 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Verilerin toplanması aşamasında, öğrencilerin matematik becerilerini belirlemek için araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilmiş matematik başarı testi ve kişisel bilgi formu kullanılmıştır. Toplanan verilerin analizinde, frekans tablosu, t-testi ve varyans analizinden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre; sınavlı-sınavsız geçiş, mezun olunan lise türü ve okul dışı eğitim alma durumuna göre temel matematik becerileri arasında farklılıklar ortaya çıkarken; anne-baba eğitim durumu ve ailenin gelir düzeyine göre temel matematik becerileri arasında farklılık bulunmadığı belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre sınavlısınavsız geçiş sistemi ve matematik derslerine yönelik bazı öneriler geliştirilmiştir.

Bu araştırmada üstün yeteneklilik alanının tarihsel sürecini ve genel yapısını ortaya koyarak ala... more Bu araştırmada üstün yeteneklilik alanının tarihsel sürecini ve genel yapısını ortaya koyarak alanın kuş bakışı görülmesine yardımcı olmak amacıyla üstün yeteneklilik ile ilgili 1956-2016 yılları arasında yayımlanan ve WoS veri tabanında indekslenen 1035 makale bibliyometrik özellikleri açısından incelenmiş ve CiteSpace 4.0 programı kullanılarak sosyal ağ yapısı ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucunda yıllara, ülkelere, üniversite/enstitü künyelerine ve araştırma alanlarına göre üstün yeteneklilere yönelik eğitim alanında yayımlanmış makalelerin dağılımı belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca bu yayınlara ait kelime ve anahtar kelime ağ yapısı, dergi atıf ağ yapısı, kaynak ortak atıf ağ yapısı ve yazar ortak atıf ağ yapısı ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Yeni bir çalışmaya başlayacak olan araştırmacıların, üstün yeteneklilik alanında olabildiğince çok bilgi edinmek amacıyla bu araştırmanın sonuçlarından yararlanabileceği düşünülmektedir.

ABSTRACT We conducted a cross-sectional retrospective study in order to evaluate the usage of the... more ABSTRACT We conducted a cross-sectional retrospective study in order to evaluate the usage of the software named Moodle Learning Management Software (LMS) with the purpose of educational auditing and its functionality. The study was performed over a practice of education, which deals with PBL activities with a networked learning approach. Course subjects were the instructional principles and methods. Students enrolled into the course from Hacettepe University Faculty of Education, Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology in the academic year 2012-2013. The course was delivered via the Moodle LMS platform. The data stored in the database of the software was extracted to make auditing evaluations about the software, and auditing techniques were applied. A comparison was made between the data received from the software&#39;s modules that could be used for auditing purposes and the data on which the auditing techniques were applied after extracting and tutor-oriented evaluations were performed. The evaluations regarding the monitoring, assessing and managing of the teaching process in the activities of the Networked PBL of Moodle software&#39;s auditing function were made in consideration of the findings. It was concluded that Moodle was sufficient for meeting the basic data requirements for educational auditing, its modules alone did not have Computer Assisted Audit Techniques (CAATs) function; a CAATs add-in, which would be created or used for fulfilling the educational requirements, would be useful.

To Ausubel, meaningful learning is a process in which new information is related to an existing r... more To Ausubel, meaningful learning is a process in which new information is related to an existing relevant aspect of an individual's knowledge structure. Meaningful learning requires relevance of prior learning and new learning. In the teaching and learning process teachers can facilitate the learners' schema. They should activate the appropriate schema of learners before starting teaching. By meaningfully learning a permanent knowledge is structured. But when the rote of learning is occured knowledge becomes a temporary knowledge. In an educational environment, teacher helps students for structuring the knowledge. In the structuring of the knowledge process, learners associate their existing and new knowledge using their mental activity. To organize new knowledge advance organizers and concept maps play an important role in meaningful learning. Both of them ensure to remembering existing knowledge and acquiring permanent knowledge. In this study it's aimed to strengthen the meaning of meaningful learning and address to creating knowledge. It's intended to explain the use of concept maps and related meta-cognitive tools to advance learning. Also to explain implementing meaningful learning into teaching. For this reason, in this study Ausubel's meaningful learning theory, the importance of educational environment, advance organizers, subject design, principles in the teaching theory for meaningful learning, concept maps, concept formation and concept attainment is discussed. Ausubel's meaningful learning theory has also some limitations despite of having some positive aspects. At the end of the study, positive and limited aspects of the meaningful learning theory have been clarified. Meaningful learning provides gaining in-depth knowledge. Meaningful learning may be significant in the case of implementing efficiently. If a student cannot perceive or hear the organizers presented in the process of learningteaching, teaching may become meaningless. If the students are not willing to the meaningful learning, mechanical learning may appear.

The purpose of this study is to infer suggestions to improve the quality of educational services ... more The purpose of this study is to infer suggestions to improve the quality of educational services provided to gifted students based on the high-achieving adults' educational experiences and opinions. High-achieving adults reflected on their school experiences, the problems they faced with and their struggles as students, and they stated their suggestions related to the educational services that should be provided to gifted students. The research data were gathered through phenomenological design. The study group was composed of eight high-achieving individuals from Turkey. The data were gathered through semi-structured interview forms. The content analysis method was used to analyze the data of the study. High-achieving adults stated that they were not provided with the required support and guidance from their administrators, teachers, families, and environments in order to realize their potentials. They suggested that the instruction should be differentiated through the individual needs of gifted students, and varied instructional methods should be used in order to sustain the multi-faceted development of gifted students.

To obtain data content analysis technique was used. Categories were determined according to data got from contend analysis, and the responses of the students were coded and gathered in the determined categories. Results: The views of prospective teachers interpreted by grouping as "creativity, behaviors promoting the creativity, behaviors preventing the creativity, relationship between teaching occupation skills and creativity and expectations from a lesson promoting creativity. Discussions and Conclusions: Teachers or educators can be models in terms of promoting or unintentionally preventing the creativity. A prospective teacher can be respected to promote creativity, enable students to notice good models in their environment and observe their own behaviors. On the other hand, for the students realized that their creativities were prevented, this situation may give them an opportunity to produce eyesight on their own teaching in the future. The creative teachers who know what he/she will do can improve himself/herself on trust and show leadership behaviors. The prospective teachers' main purpose is not only passing a course but also always asking questions, endless wonderment and unlimited motivation.

For this reason, survey research modelis used. The population of this research is Sahinbey central district located in the Gaziantep municipality consists of 3114 secondary school teachers. The research sample selected by the stratified sampling method consists of 526 teachers. In the study to determine the level of life satisfaction of teachers developed by the Diener, Emmons, Larsen and Griffin (1985) "Life Satisfaction Scale" is used. The analysis of the data first included descriptive statistics. Teachers' perceptions of life satisfaction varies according to the gender variable t-test to determine whether; experience, course work, school size and level of education varies according to the variables to determine whether the ANOVA test was performed. Life Satisfaction teachers' perceptions regarding the wording of the scale were evaluated according to the independent variables of gender, course load and school size variables did not differ significantly according to the perceptions of teachers. According to seniority in teacher perceptions of life satisfaction scale for teachers with 21 years or more showed significant differences in favor.

The aim of the study was to examine the effects of There is No Risk at My School Training Program... more The aim of the study was to examine the effects of There is No Risk at My School Training Program, prepared based on the problem-based learning approach, on the knowledge and skills about preventing and intervening against risk behaviors. The study was planned as experimental design as pretest-posttest without control group. The study group in the research comprised 81 school counselors employed in public schools in Kırşehir. Participants were randomly separated into four groups and the training program, which consisted of 30 hours and 24 sessions in total, was implemented to four groups over five days. Within the scope of the implemented program, scenarios which involve risk behavior and were prepared in accordance with the problem-based learning approach were presented to the participants in diverse ways at the beginning of every session and risk factors, protective factors, prevention and intervention methods were discussed in relation to the scenarios. Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test analysis was used in the research. Findings obtained in the research show that There is No Risk at My School Project Training applied to the experimental group caused a significant difference in the knowledge and skill level of school counselors related to risk behaviors.

Bu araştırma nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden betimsel yöntemin, tarama modeli türlerinden ilişkisel tarama modelinde yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın örneklemini, Kırşehir'deki meslek yüksek okulları arasından birinden rasgele seçilen birinci sınıfta okuyan 280 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Verilerin toplanması aşamasında, öğrencilerin matematik becerilerini belirlemek için araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilmiş matematik başarı testi ve kişisel bilgi formu kullanılmıştır. Toplanan verilerin analizinde, frekans tablosu, t-testi ve varyans analizinden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre; sınavlı-sınavsız geçiş, mezun olunan lise türü ve okul dışı eğitim alma durumuna göre temel matematik becerileri arasında farklılıklar ortaya çıkarken; anne-baba eğitim durumu ve ailenin gelir düzeyine göre temel matematik becerileri arasında farklılık bulunmadığı belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre sınavlısınavsız geçiş sistemi ve matematik derslerine yönelik bazı öneriler geliştirilmiştir.

Araştırmanın sonucunda yıllara, ülkelere, üniversite/enstitü künyelerine ve araştırma alanlarına göre üstün yeteneklilere yönelik eğitim alanında yayımlanmış makalelerin dağılımı belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca bu yayınlara ait kelime ve anahtar kelime ağ yapısı, dergi atıf ağ yapısı, kaynak ortak atıf ağ yapısı ve yazar ortak atıf ağ yapısı ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Yeni bir çalışmaya başlayacak olan araştırmacıların, üstün yeteneklilik alanında olabildiğince çok bilgi edinmek amacıyla bu araştırmanın sonuçlarından yararlanabileceği düşünülmektedir.

ABSTRACT We conducted a cross-sectional retrospective study in order to evaluate the usage of the... more ABSTRACT We conducted a cross-sectional retrospective study in order to evaluate the usage of the software named Moodle Learning Management Software (LMS) with the purpose of educational auditing and its functionality. The study was performed over a practice of education, which deals with PBL activities with a networked learning approach. Course subjects were the instructional principles and methods. Students enrolled into the course from Hacettepe University Faculty of Education, Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology in the academic year 2012-2013. The course was delivered via the Moodle LMS platform. The data stored in the database of the software was extracted to make auditing evaluations about the software, and auditing techniques were applied. A comparison was made between the data received from the software&#39;s modules that could be used for auditing purposes and the data on which the auditing techniques were applied after extracting and tutor-oriented evaluations were performed. The evaluations regarding the monitoring, assessing and managing of the teaching process in the activities of the Networked PBL of Moodle software&#39;s auditing function were made in consideration of the findings. It was concluded that Moodle was sufficient for meeting the basic data requirements for educational auditing, its modules alone did not have Computer Assisted Audit Techniques (CAATs) function; a CAATs add-in, which would be created or used for fulfilling the educational requirements, would be useful.

Meaningful learning requires relevance of prior learning and new learning. In the teaching and learning process teachers can facilitate the learners' schema. They should activate the appropriate schema of learners before starting teaching. By meaningfully learning a permanent knowledge is structured. But when the rote of learning is occured knowledge becomes a temporary knowledge. In an educational environment, teacher helps students for structuring the knowledge. In the structuring of the knowledge process, learners associate their existing and new knowledge using their mental activity. To organize new knowledge advance organizers and concept maps play an important role in meaningful learning. Both of them ensure to remembering existing knowledge and acquiring permanent knowledge. In this study it's aimed to strengthen the meaning of meaningful learning and address to creating knowledge. It's intended to explain the use of concept maps and related meta-cognitive tools to advance learning. Also to explain implementing meaningful learning into teaching. For this reason, in this study Ausubel's meaningful learning theory, the importance of educational environment, advance organizers, subject design, principles in the teaching theory for meaningful learning, concept maps, concept formation and concept attainment is discussed. Ausubel's meaningful learning theory has also some limitations despite of having some positive aspects. At the end of the study, positive and limited aspects of the meaningful learning theory have been clarified. Meaningful learning provides gaining in-depth knowledge. Meaningful learning may be significant in the case of implementing efficiently. If a student cannot perceive or hear the organizers presented in the process of learningteaching, teaching may become meaningless. If the students are not willing to the meaningful learning, mechanical learning may appear.

The purpose of this study is to infer suggestions to improve the quality of educational services ... more The purpose of this study is to infer suggestions to improve the quality of educational services provided to gifted students based on the high-achieving adults' educational experiences and opinions. High-achieving adults reflected on their school experiences, the problems they faced with and their struggles as students, and they stated their suggestions related to the educational services that should be provided to gifted students. The research data were gathered through phenomenological design. The study group was composed of eight high-achieving individuals from Turkey. The data were gathered through semi-structured interview forms. The content analysis method was used to analyze the data of the study. High-achieving adults stated that they were not provided with the required support and guidance from their administrators, teachers, families, and environments in order to realize their potentials. They suggested that the instruction should be differentiated through the individual needs of gifted students, and varied instructional methods should be used in order to sustain the multi-faceted development of gifted students.
