There are numerous natural resources in the community which can be utilized for their livelihood opportunity. The study is a qualitative research particularly ethnographic participatory approach. Focused group discussion was done among the key leaders in the community. The responses were recorded, transcribed and analyzed. Participant observation was also used which applied direct observation of the people and their daily activities and this was recorded in field notes. The In-depth one-on-one interviews was conducted through structured questions wherein representatives of the community were asked about their knowledge about their natural resources (forest, freshwater and marine), location and importance to their livelihood and daily existence, cases of depletion and conservation efforts and their perspective about sharing these resources to visitors. Secondary data gathering included library and on-line research from several institutions who conducted similar studies. Data validation was conducted by presenting the findings to the key leaders of the community. Their community is composed of three ecosystems namely freshwater, marine and forest ecosystems. The Dumagat are highly dependent to these ecosystems because these are their source of livelihood and economic opportunities. Their culture as a Dumagat is also anchored on these ecosystems. The community is open and willing to share their natural resources to potential visitors in selected areas provided the visitors are aware of conservation and protection. The data and information gathered in this study provided a springboard to take concrete actions in planning and policy formulation design to conserve and protect the Dumagat`s indigenous natural resources for present and future generations to come.

The expected output include list of tourist attractions and possible activities, identification of skills and capabilities of the community and the level of community participation of the community in general. Importance of the study Community participation is a very critical component of any community-based tourism project. The success depends on how well the host community will accept the entry of development in their community. They should be treated as community partners and not only as service providers:  Indigenous Peoples of Gen. Nakar that they should realized the importance of their culture and environment as a means to trigger livelihood opportunities;  Local Government of Gen. Nakar for them to provide the necessary tourism infrastructure;  LPU Community for them to integrate IP culture and knowledge in tourism curriculum thereby increasing the level of awareness of students about the indigenous peoples. Scope and limitations Gen. Nakar, Quezon is part of the Sierra Madre mountain range which is located in the northernmost area of Quezon, facing the Pacific Ocean, Pollilo Strait and Lamon Bay. The study area is Sitio Masla, one of the Dumagat Settlements in Gen. Nakar. The researcher consulted the Dumagat community who are also LPU`s partner in this project. The study was conducted in 2012. Research Methodology The participatory approach in research design, data gathering methods and tools are used in this study. Direct observation is also used in this study. Insights are gathered from the different community leaders and secondary data are used to provide additional information about the study. Research Design The study is descriptive because it seeks to describe the general situation in the area. Descriptive studies are aimed at finding out "what is," so observational and survey methods are frequently used to collect descriptive data (Borg & Gall, 1989). It also involves an in-depth study of the people in the community. The survey method is used using unstructured or focused group interview. Research procedure Prior to the actual research the whole TAYAN 3 team conducted courtesy calls to the mayor of Gen. Nakar, Barangay officials and leaders in the community thus several community meetings are conducted in order to establish rapport. Then researcher followed the procedures outlined below:  Conduct several trips to the area to gather field notes through observation and informal interaction with the community people.  Set a community meeting in the participants`convenient time and venue.  Conduct the focus group discussion/interview (FGD) using guide questions. The responses are recorded and transcribed using acceptable procedure.  Conduct actual visits to potential attractions together with the community people.  Write down assessments and reflections.  Validate findings with key leaders and partners who have lived with the community.  Triangulate the data gathered with secondary data from various sources.  Consolidate the findings.  Write down the findings. Research Participants Key leaders are interviewed to validate the data gathered through observation. During the focus group discussion ten (10) women joined the activity.
