Methodology: A total of hundred and sixteen juvenile delinquents (100 boys and 16 girls) in the age range of 11- 18 years, residing in the four Government-run Observation and Special Homes (O&SHs) of Odisha. Descriptive statistics (i.e., percent) and qualitative method (i.e. narrative) have been used to analyze the data. Main Findings: Absence of proper parental guidance and supervision is found to be the major cause of delinquency in children. Parental rejection and deprivation i.e. mother’s love and emotional support is the major cause of delinquency in girls. Lack of parental involvement and less quality time spent by parents with boys are the main reasons behind their delinquency. One becomes a deviant because of the environment in which one grows. The environment basically refers to family and the situation one lives in. In this act two major provisions have been introduced-first, putting the children who are above sixteen years of age under trial as adult if found guilty of heinous crime and second, putting the juveniles in adult prison after the juveniles turn twenty-one years old if the sentence term is not over. Along with these two provisions other provisions relating to children in conflict with law under Juvenile Justice Act are under critical scrutiny in this paper. The present juvenile crime scenario after the passage of Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 is discussed in this paper. Finally some points for improvement in the Act as well as in the juvenile justice system is suggested.

The study has also found more middle born children are involved in crime. It is further revealed that the influence of family, peers and desire for instant economic gain are other factors along with sibling influence.
