Myristica fragrans Houtt were extracted in 80% aq. MeOH and solvent fractionated sing , EtOAc, n-... more Myristica fragrans Houtt were extracted in 80% aq. MeOH and solvent fractionated sing , EtOAc, n-BuOH and water, successively. The n-BuOH fraction gave three phenylpropanoids through application of silica gel column chromatographies. The chemical structures of the phenylpropanoids were determined by the interpretation of several spectral data, including NMR and MS as meso-dihydroguaiaretic acid (1), nectandrin B (2) and syringin methyl ether (3). Compound 1, which was first isolated from this plant by authors, showed inhibitory activities with on ACAT(acyl-CoA:Cholesterol Acyltransferase), chitin synthase III and HMG-CoA reductase (3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase), respectively. Compound 3 showed inhibitory activities with on ACAT and chitin synthase III.

Alcohol extracts from the seeds of Macleaya cordata have shown a significant insecticidal effect ... more Alcohol extracts from the seeds of Macleaya cordata have shown a significant insecticidal effect against the growth of the cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glover. In this study, we aimed to isolate the principal component of M. cordata to manifest its insecticidal effect on A. gossypii. The dried seeds of M. cordata were extracted with 80% aqueous methanol (MeOH), and the concentrated extracts were partitioned successively with ethyl acetate (EtOAc), n-butyl alcohol (n-BuOH), and H 2 O. During the search for an insecticidal compound against the aphids, activityguided fractionation led to the isolation of two alkaloids from an n-BuOH fraction through repeated silica gel column chromatographic separations. Based on NMR, MS, and IR spectroscopic data, the chemical structures of the compounds were determined to be 8hydroxydihydrochelerythrine (1) and 8-methoxydihydrosanguinarine (2) This is the first study in which 8-methoxydihydrosanguinarine was isolated from M. cordata. 8-Hydroxydihydrochelerythrine (1) and 8-methoxydihydrosanguinarine (2) decreased the survival of the cotton aphid by 76.1±7.9 and 73.6±14.6% at 100 ppm, respectively.

From EtOAc fraction four different compounds were isolated through the repeated silica gel column chromatographies. From not only the results of NMR and MS data but also the adaptation of hydrolysis, methylation, and acetylation, the chemical structures of compounds were elucidated as resin glycoside, simonin I, , and two kinds of unsaturated fatty acids.

Tubers of Corydalis turtschaninovii were extracted with 80% aqueous methanol (MeOH), and the conc... more Tubers of Corydalis turtschaninovii were extracted with 80% aqueous methanol (MeOH), and the concentrated extract was successively partitioned with n-hexane, ethyl acetate (EtOAc), butanol (n-BuOH), and H 2 O. An activity-guided fractionation to search for insecticidal compounds against aphids led to the isolation of six alkaloids from the n-hexane and EtOAc fractions using a repeated silica gel, an octadecyl silica gel (ODS), and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatographic separations. Based on the spectroscopic data of NMR, mass spectroscopy (MS), and IR, the chemical structures of the compounds were determined to be: (+)-stylopine (1), (+)-corydaline (2), demethylcorydalmine (3), isocorypalmine (4), glaucine (5), and pseudoprotopine (6). These compounds showed significant insecticidal effects against Aphis gossypii, 69.

From the EtOAc and n-BuOH fractions, four compounds were isolated through the repeated silica gel, ODS and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatographies. They were determined as sinapyl aldehyde (1), 2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde (2), 2,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid (3) and 2,4-dihydroxyphenylglyoxylic acid (4) on the basis of spectroscopic data, respectively. Among the isolated compounds, sinapyl aldehyde and 2,4-dihydroxyphenylglyoxylic acid showed the strong antioxidative activity than artificial antioxidant BHT in DPPH radical scavenging activity.

The methanol extract from the aerial parts of Aceriphyllum rossii was fractionated into ethyl ace... more The methanol extract from the aerial parts of Aceriphyllum rossii was fractionated into ethyl acetate, n-BuOH and layers through solvent fractionation. Repeated silica gel column chromatography of EtOAc and n-BuOH layers afforded five flavonol glycosides. They were identified as astragalin (1), kaempferol 3-O--L-rhamnopyranosyl (16)--D-glucopyranoside (2), rutin (3), kaempferol 3-O--L-rhamnopyranosyl (14)--L-rhamnopyranosyl 16)--D-glucopyranoside (4), and quercetin 3-O--L-rhamnopyranosyl (14)--L-rhamnopyranosyl (16)--D-glucopyranoside (5) on the basis of spectroscopic data. All of them showed an inhibition in farnesyl protein tranferase (FPTase) activity, and rutin (3) inhibited the growth of rat H-ras cell and the cell migration of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs).

The structures of the compounds were established on the basis of NMR, MS, and IR spectroscopic data.

The EtOAc fraction gave three compounds, which were isolated through the repeated silica gel and ODS column chromatographies. Based on the spectroscopic data obtained from NMR, MS, and IR, the chemical structures of the compounds were determined as cycloeucalenol (1), ursolic acid (2), and 2,3,23-trihydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid (3). These triterpenoids were isolated for the first time from Hydrocaryaceae plants including T. pseudoincisa NAKAI.
