Adjustment to retirement is a course of action that starts from the day of disengagement from act... more Adjustment to retirement is a course of action that starts from the day of disengagement from active work to life end. It is therefore essential to set targets for oneself or find activities that offer a sense of intention and meaning to life after retirement. The strategies used by each retiree may depend on how emotionally, socially and financially prepared he or she is before the event occurs, as well as the type of retirement whether voluntary or forced. For instance, retirees may become more selective of several activities choosing to withdraw from many demanding engagements and retain a few they can adequately manage. Retirees who adjust best are those who do not suffer from financial problems, ill health, stress-filled life, or death of spouses or children. They could have enough to live on, have sufficient social network among offspring’s, friends, relatives or even former co-workers. It is based on problems facing retirees that the Federal Government of Nigeria recently ove...

These studies have examined; drawing out the relationship between exchange rate and macroeconomic performance, with respect to manufacturing output and its related variables. This study examined the impact of exchange rates on the performance of the Nigerian manufacturing sector using the independent variables of exchange rates, inflation rates, capacity utilization rate, the manufacturing sector’s foreign direct investments, and imports over a period of 25 years (1990-2014). Unit Root test, Johansen co-integration test, Granger causality test and Error Correction Model were used to test for stationarity, long-run relationship, causal relationship, and the short and long run equilibrium relationship respectively. The empirical results of the study shows that a devaluation of the Naira has a negative impact o...

Individuals, groups and even nations experience violence of various kinds. The nature of struggle over values, interests, power, ideology and resources of different kinds necessitates the occurrence of violence in human life (Albert, 2000). Prison communities are not far from other human communities that experience violence peculiar to their social environment. Prison violence destroys human lives (inmate and prison personnel) and property worth millions of naira in Nigeria. The incessant prison violence and jail breaks in Nigeria have created a negative image for the country. However, the lack of adequate research to reveal the causes of prison violence and jail breaks in Nigeria has made control difficult and impacted negatively in the relevance of prison in Nigeria. Three major research instruments were used to collect the qualitative data for this study. In-depth interview guide (IDI), Focus g...

The study implemented survey design and qualitative methods (Focus Group Discussion and Key Informant Interviews) were carried out to gather data and information. Purposive sampling was used to select the study areas while convenience sampling and simple random sampling were used to select the community residents and law enforcement officers respectively. The study discovered that both law enforcement officers and community residents were of the opinion that there are things to be done by government, the customs officers and the entire public to ensure tight security and smuggling free trade in Nigeria as explained in this study. The potentials of individuals and groups in the community are a great source or resource for promoting unity, development and patriotism. The general objective of this study is to examine the influence of diversity in community composition, on the operation of community policing style in Nigeria. The study adopted qualitative research approach to collect and analyze data. In-depth interview is the instrument of data collection while content analysis is the method of data analysis. The study took place in Kwara State, North central Nigeria. Twenty community leaders and youth groups heads were purposefully selected through snowball sampling method. Where this great resource or human capital is adequately galvanized by the leaders and community heads, the community becomes formidable and capable of solving her social problems together. This study employed a cross-sectional design by a structured questionnaire that was completed by 417 employees in 20 workplaces. The results found a low level of work place health interventions by employers. Employees indicated a preference to participate in physical health activities and stress-buster sessions. Employees preferred participative programmes and the email/intranet for conveyance of health messages; they generally believed workplace health promotion would make the workplace more comfortable as well as improve their health and job satisfaction. The results suggest that companies that intend initiating health promotion programmes need to conduct a detailed assessment of the nature of the workplace settings and the needs of employees....

Although Nigeria shares a lot in common with America, its constitution is nothing but a military decreed document that is yet to be reviewed after two tenures of democratic rule. The model chosen has its own fundamental principles and characteristics that serve as a guide. Glances at the Obasanjo’s administration in the first and second term indicate that Nigeria is just evolving and that most of these principles are still being abused. The dilemma of building a nation such as Nigeria is a major issue considering the historical antecedents of different ethnic groups in the country. Having experienced a long military rule with a transformed military man under the democratic regime is a major food for thought. The pluralist idea of what democracy means provides a kind of explanation for the ongoing political scenario in Nigeria. The idea o...

These factors certainly affect traditional employment relations and the exercise of freedom of association and collective bargaining rights inherent in them. Flexible work patterns are now becoming dominant in developing countries and this makes it more difficult to organize workers for collective representation. A fall-out of globalization in Nigeria is the increase in CWAs. Workers in this form of work arrangements are subject to insecurity and little or no protection as labour legislation can seldom be effectively applied to them. Globalization is said to provoke the deterioration of working conditions in developing countries like Nigeria. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO) statistics union membership though still significant in large work places, has decre...

Experiments were conducted in 2016 and 2017 cropping seasons to determine effects of PM on performance and quality of green amaranth including some minerals and heavy metals in soil and plant tissues. In both years, PM were applied at 0, 10, 20, 30 and 40 t∙ha 1 . Application of PM increased soil chemical properties, leaf mineral content, growth and marketable yield of green amaranth compared with the control. Soil pH, organic matter, N and P and leaf mineral N and P were increased up to 40 t ha -1 PM, but soil and leaf K, Ca, Mg, ash, protein, fiber contents were increased up to 20 t ha -1 PM. The lowest fat was observed at 20 t ha -1 PM. Dry matter declined as PM level increased. The PM influenced soil and leaf As, Cu and Zn, the abundance of heavy metals in soil and green amaranth leaf increased as level of PM increased. In soil and green amaranth leaves, levels of As, Cu and Zn...
