Leaderful Classroom Pedagogy Through an Interdisciplinary Lens, Dec 31, 2023

This is likely attributable to insufficient understanding and awareness of the potential benefits of teacher leadership practices in advancing language learning. Further investigation is warranted to examine the role of teacher leadership and its implications for shaping the language learning environment. Thus, the current study aims to examine the perceptions of tertiary-level English as a foreign language (EFL) teachers regarding their self-efficacy and leadership roles in classroom management and discipline. The secondary aim of the research is to investigate the types of reflective practices language teachers utilize to foster better classroom management. To this end, EFL instructors employed at Turkish higher education institutions were invited to participate in a survey that comprised an EFL teacher leadership self-efficacy scale, background questions, and two open-ended questions. The findings of the study revealed that Turkish EFL teachers generally reported high leadership self-efficacy, which was influenced by their teaching experience and prior institutional leadership/administrative positions. Furthermore, the qualitative analysis of the open-ended questions shed light on how teachers perceived their leadership roles in managing classroom discipline and what reflective practices they employed in ensuring a leaderful EFL classroom climate.

Concerning the use of digital technologies in education, the COVID-19 pandemic acted as a catalyst for rethinking educational policies. With the shift to emergency remote teaching, schools experienced a paradigm shift in delivering education. School leaders and teachers found themselves in the necessity of quick adaptation to various new modes, from using digital/online platforms to responding to the needs and expectations of their students. The experience led to contingency plans in the process and shed some light on the futureoriented plans and scenarios in education, which accelerated the use of digital technologies in education. In parallel with those, professional development courses and support provided for teachers have grown in number, variety, and extent. In this regard, the current study aims to examine primary school teachers' approaches to digital teaching & learning, their sources of concern, and their expectations from effective professional development courses based on their remote/digital teaching experiences. A focus group, a qualitative research method, was used in the study with a sample of primary school teachers. The findings were revealed under four themes: Transition to digital teaching & learning; obstacles of the digital environment as a teacher/learner; opportunities of the digital environment as a teacher/learner; expectations from PD opportunities.

In order to achieve this aim, EFL instructors completed the Teacher Self-efficacy in Classroom Management and Discipline Scale and two other open-ended questions asking them about their strengths and areas of improvement in classroom management and leadership. As revealed by the findings, EFL teachers reported their teaching and classroom management self-efficacy as somewhat high, while their view of external influences was neutral. Regarding the role of background variables, only, the experience was found to positively affect the self-reported measure of classroom management and discipline self-efficacy. Analysis of the qualitative data from the responses to open-ended questions further corroborated and expanded the quantitative data revealing diverse perspectives regarding EFL teachers’ stre...

Academic connections and collaborations between universities from different countries via joint research projects, education and training activities are very valuable. In establishing such connections, academics in staff mobility programs might play an important role in introducing their institution and carry a potential marketing element for future academic collaborations. In this respect, the aim of this study is to explore the awareness of academics on their role in academic marketing in the international higher education arena and to explore their expectations toward improving international education activities.

A survey was applied on two different sample groups. 607 middle managers and academicians working in six different faculties and two schools in a HEI in 2014-2015 educational year compose the population of the study. Data for the study were gathered with the "Order vs. Freedom Dilemma Scale" and with semi-structured interview form "Opinions on the Order vs. Freedom Dilemma" both developed by the researcher. The findings of the study show that the choice of middle managers on order vs freedom dilemma is mostly for order. The choice of sub-dimensions related to order and/or freedom is important and each of those sub-dimensions need continuous development. Furthermore, it is suggested that individual orientations, professional norms, ideals and professional discipline all together with the institutional structure can be improved correspondingly and become more effective in practice. Besides, supporting the staff to reach each other in a better and closer communication space is also suggested by starting an interactive, effective and sustainable communication mechanism on middle and lower levels.

An analytical framework was used to review and classify the information on research and researchers, the object of study, and the object of knowledge. Turkish higher education research on faculty members was mainly published in the form of articles in peer-reviewed journals in Turkish. The primary objects of study were about the islands of teaching and learning, policy studies, identity development, institutional research, and the scholarships of discovery and teaching. As for the object of knowledge, Turkish higher education research on faculty members was found to be descriptive. Quantitative studies employed parametric tests for research data based on the target population and simple random sampling with a maximum of 400 respondents. The qualitative studies used interviews and content analysis for data collection and analysis. Establishing structures focusing on systematic and long-term research on faculty around the issues such as recruitment, career, and post-career stages was among the recommendations of the paper.

More Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are beginning to provide their staff with academic management & leadership programs to ensure successful formal and professional management. Academics with & without managerial position attend those programs to improve their understanding & skills in departmental management and/or academic research/project team management. The aim of this study is to determine the needs and expectations of academics regarding that kind of programs in a HEI (which is currently without those programs) in Turkey. Participation in the study was voluntary and a semi-structured interview form was used to gather data. Convenience sampling method was used to reach the participants and content analysis was conducted in data analysis. According to the findings, partici...

Accreditation process in English language teaching requires the involvement of all employees in the process from the upper management level to the lower level. It develops and evaluates language teaching in a multifaceted way as physical facilities, education, academic staff and management. Conducting an action research in a preparatory program which is planning to begin an accreditation process is suggested for further research following this review.
