In some parts of Africa, maize malt and grains are used to produce a lighter colored beer with a mellower flavor and it is given different names depending on the sub-region. In Cameroon, sha is produced in rural and urban areas and play an important role in the livelihood of the value chain actors and consumers both socially and economically. It is much consumed during moments of joy and sadness. This review reveals that there are two principal methods used for preparing sha in Cameroon from the main ingredient- germinated maize. Reward of cooperate work, means of communication, entertainment, friendship pacts, and easing stress and depression are some of the social role of sha while income generation, employment creation, increased economic activities and generation of taxes to the nation are some of the economic role of sha in Cameroon. Mentoring is the function of nurturing and supporting by providing SMEs with professional skills development, and moral support to positively impact on the business sustainability. This study empirically investigates the basic profile of agricultural business mentoring, the skill sets; and to represent the importance of the skills as represented in the model and to understand the mentoring for start-up business in the country. Semi structured questionnaires with reference to literature studies from other countries were used to gather data. Data was collected from staffs and sample size of 100 respondents from the agro-enterprises was identified, out of which 62 were received. Results indicated that limited numbers of female staffs were involved in agro-enterprises. The results revealed some average relationship between educational level and entrepreneurial skills are significantly correlated. It was suggested that there is need for an efficient, effective and advisory service for training if people are to start a small business in the country successfully. In conclusion, we suggested that the authorities, private organizations and non-governmental organizations to help strengthen their support in term of entrepreneurial skills training, encouragement, and finance to the individuals and groups. Also establishment of mentoring organization and entrepreneurship training as well as innovative skills in all high and tertiary institutions in the country to put into consideration.

However, pre-harvest losses of these crops for the past two decades are alarming. The paper reveals that pre-harvest losses of bananas and plantains since 2002 ranges from 20.7-100% in Sub-Sahara Africa with most countries recording 50% losses and above. The paper further categorised the causes of pre-harvest losses of Musa spp. into natural, agronomic, biotic and human-induced constraints. Among these categories, human-induced constraints are seen to cause the highest pre-harvest losses as they influence the occurrence of other constraints. Some of the primary natural and agronomic constraints are storm, drought, and irregular/mixed cropping and over dependent on sward suckers and rainfall respectively. Fusarium wilt, Banana Xanthomonas wilt (BXW), banana bunchy top disease, black sigatoka and cigar-end rot are some of the biotic constraints reported in most producing countries in the region. This research considered four treatment levels: control = no treatment, charcoal = 450 g plot-1, NPK = 112.5 g plot-1 and charcoal + NPK combination. The experimental plot size was 1.5 square meter. Treatments were replicated 8 times. Data collected on yield parameters were: Number of pods, pod weight, pod length and pod diameter. Data collections were done for three consecutive months. Data analyzed indicated that Local pepper performed better than Jalapeno for all treatments. The charcoal + NPK treated plots performed best than other treatments. For the Local pepper number of pods, charcoal + NPK applied plots had a mean of 16.79 million pods ha-1, NPK applied plots had a mean of 12.69 million pods ha-1, charcoal applied plots also had a mean of 7.20 million pods ha-1 while the control plots had ...

The study was conducted in 200 hectares farm which produces Irish potato, cabbage, maize etc. Simple random sampling method was used to select 350 respondents out of a population of 3,500. Both structured and unstructured interviews were used to gather information for the study. The results obtained from the research concluded that fibula spunta, mondal and silvy are varieties which are grown in the study area. It further revealed that fibula yield more than spunta, mondal and silvy but it easily perish when stored for long because of its water content.
