Recognizing its importance for marine resource conservation, efforts have been made to integrate sasi into current conservation management approach. This study was carried out with 3 objectives: (1) to define and elaborate sasi; (2) to examine the benefits of sasi for conservation of marine resources; and (3) to evaluate the change of sasi in the context of conservation. Multi-method approaches were employed to collect data from local communities in Dampier Strait District MPA in 2 separate sampling periods. Results indicated that sasi in Raja Ampat could generally be categorized into samson or kabus which basically reflect different aspects such as location, type of commodity, implementing ceremony, period of closure, the influence of monsoons, and communal ownership. The benefits identified included the increase in target fish production, the lowered level of exploitation, the improved recovery of fish stocks, and the increase in the local people's income. From the modern conservation management point of view, it was obvious that sasi could help protect and sustain marine biological resources. Therefore, it is essential to incorporate sasi into modern conservation management practices and vice versa.

Degradation analysis of mangrove ecological function as macrozoobenthos habitat and its management in the Angke Kapuk Coastal Area, Jakarta. Bonorowo Wetlands 6: 1-11. Mangrove ecosystem is a natural resource that has many ecological benefits in the coastal ecosystems, such as become the habitat and food source for terrestrial and marine biota. One of the Indonesian territory which has fairly large mangrove forest area is in the north of DKI Jakarta Province. That is Angke Kapuk coastal which has 327.70 hectares green belt area and scattered in several regions (BKSDA Jakarta, 2003). Mangrove areas in Angke Kapuk play some important roles in the ecosystem, such as became a preservation habitat for the number of species, especially macrozoobenthos. The environmental degradation along regional development, such as tourism, fisheries activity, and industry cause coastal resources which are mangrove areas to become vulnerable. The pu...

The method used in this research was analytic hierarchy process (AHP). The results show that SPMI and ISO 9001 are running separately. The causal variables include the work unit which has not figured out that the clause in ISO 9001 actually supports the clause of SPMI. Therefore, in implementing the process in accordance with ISO 9001, the target nature is standardization on SPMI. In compiling the ISO 9001 and SPMI system synchronization, a table of conformity between the SPMI and ISO 9001 clauses is established. In reference to the table of conformity, it can be seen that what has been done in the ISO 9001 clause can explain that its implementation supports the achievement of SPMI standard targets related to the corresponding clause. Referring to additional input from the experts on the priority of synchronization strategy of both quality management systems (SMM), it will support the implementation of SPME BAN-PT so that the accreditation achievement of leading study program and institution can be achieved efficiently and effectively.

Two species of bivalves settled on the wood: Bankia campanellata (Moll & Roch) and Martesia striata (Linné). Average densities of settling larvae were 125 ind. 100 cm-2 on horizontal wood, and 95 ind. 100 cm-2 on vertical wood, indicating a tendency to settle on the top side of the wood. The number of larvae settling on wood immersed at the surface was not significantly different from wood at 1.25 m depth.

The purpose of this study was to describe the ecomorphology of Ostrea edulis in Kuala Gigieng waters. This research was conducted from August to September 2013 in Kuala Gigieng Waters, Aceh Besar District. The method used in this research is purposive sampling. Identification of samples based on shell morphological characteristics including the exterior and interior of the shell using a magnifier lamp. The results showed that Ostrea edulis found in Kuala Gigieng waters had round, rough, hard, thick and uneven shells. The two valves are also not the same size, where the left valve is more concave than the right valve which tends to be flat. This is a form of the adaptation pattern of Ostrea edulis in Kuala Gigieng which tends to have a medium sand and clay sand substrate with a fairly high predati...

Yet, on the other hand it also has the potential to cause greenhouse gas emissions through litter degradation even though its value is lower compared to the absorption value. Based on these two facts, mangrove management as a Green Open Space in the Tallo river area of Makassar City needs to consider involving the participation of the community and the government as stakeholders. The research was conducted by desk work, literature study and respondent interviews regarding perceptions and participation in mangrove management. The results showed that the total uptake of mangrove carbon in the Tallo river in Makassar city was 351.02 tons CO2/ha, oxygen supply 255.29 O2-equivalent/ha, and the potential for global warming was 252.41 mg/ m2/hour consisting of 194, 33 mg/m2/hour of CO2 gas, 15.76 mg/m2/hour of CH4 gas, and 42.33 mg/m2/hour of N2O gas. The results of community perception and participation analysis ...
