Back to the roots" is what we may call our experience in our researches concerning gutbrain axis.... more Back to the roots" is what we may call our experience in our researches concerning gutbrain axis. What Hippocrates, Plato, Ibn-Khaldun, Galen, and many other philosophers from antique ages suggested can be proven today with all our technological aids. The observation in the old of the link ages between nutrition and the well being of our souls, mind, and bodies was found to be true. In fact, what the ancient philosophers said about nutrition in connection with a healthy life is quite similar to what we hear in the recent years. This is a demonstration of how important it is to observe ourselves as humans. In the last researches, the connection between gut and brain and their formation of the personal mood showed the same results. Together with the mood, the spirit has also proven to be influenced by nutrition. Our industrial era put the focus right from the beginning more on feeding masses than on nurturing human kind. Leaving that aside, the doctors today concentrate more on diagnosis and their foreseen treatment than on observing and preventing dıseases. A healthy and conscious nutrition is the start of a healthy worth living lıfe. What philosophers and doctors found out hundreds of years ago should be applicable and excisable today.

As for technology dependency, television, computer, mobile phone, internet dependency come first. While rapid progress of technology simplifies our daily living, its misuse may cause psycho and physio-pathologic symptoms and obesity among children and teenagers. Technology dependence is an important public health problem. Measures against technology dependency are important. The objective of this research is to investigate the association between rapidly increasing internet addiction and obesity, a major health problem. Material and Methods: A total of 150 children aged between 11 and 18 years participated in the study from March to April 2018. Participants were informed of their height, weight, age, parental education and tested for internet addiction. Results: In this research there was no significant correlation between obesity and internet addiction. But as education levels of mothers increase, internet addiction levels also increase in children. Average internet addiction score of males is higher Conclusion: If time spent on internet and television reaches pathological levels then grave health consequences could be expected in our children. Families and youngsters should be educated about smart usage of internet to prevent damages of technology addiction and obesity upon mental and physical health. This education should be given before internet addiction begins.

Objective: The epigenetic changes in the COVID-19 patients were discussed in this article to explore various processes contributing to disease severity and elevation of risk due to infection. Methods: Percentages of hospitalization, with and without intensive care, in the presence of diseases with increased ACE2 expression, were compared, based on the best available data. Further analysis compared two different age groups, 19-64 and ≥65 years of age. Result & Conclusion: The COVID-19 disease is observed to be the most severe in the 65 and-higher-age group with pre-existing chronic conditions. This observational study is a nonexperimental empirical investigation of the outcomes of COVID-19 in different patient groups. Results are promising for conducting clinical trials with intervention groups. To ultimately succeed in disease prevention, researchers and clinicians must integrate epigenetic mechanisms to generate valid prescriptions for global well-being.

Materials and methods: Our study enrolled mothers of 150 children in normal, high and low BMI categories who were admitted to Kagithane State Hospital. The inclusion criteria required that these children had no chronic disease, developmental defect, and diagnosed psychological or physical disease impairing the reliability of the interview. Symptom Check List (SCL-90-R) and Beck Depression Scale (BDS) were used on all mothers of these children. In this study, BDS values of high BMI children's mothers were significantly higher than those of normal BMI children's mothers and BDS values of mothers of low BMI children were found to be higher than those of mothers of normal BMI children. The SCL-90-R results between mothers of high and normal BMI, high and low BMI, normal and low BMI children were statistically significant. We observed the effect of the psychological state of the family on childhood eating habits and the higher incidence of childhood feeding problems in families with psychopathology. Currently family therapy is indicated according to guidelines in solving eating disorders in children. This approach may also be useful for children with abnormal BMI.

Annelere mamalar hakkındaki fikirleri açık uçlu olarak sorulduğunda %68,8'i mamalara güvenmediğini, %8,3'u fikri olmadığını belirtmişti. Sonuç: Annelerin doğumdan itibaren bebeklerini anne sütü ile beslemeyi seçtikleri görülmekteyken, ilerleyen aylarda anneler tamamen sezgilerine dayanarak anne sütünün yetmediği, bebeklerinin doymadıkları duygusuna kapılmaktadırlar. Özellikle ilk 6 aydaki çocuk sağlığı izlemlerinde normal gelişim gösteren bebeklerin annelerine, annenin sütünün bebeğin gelişimi için yeterli olduğu mutlaka belirtilmeli, anneler bebeklerini sadece anne sütü ile besleme konusunda desteklenmeli ve cesaretlendirilmelidir.

One of the obstacles awaiting urgent solution, on the way to healthy living is obesity. There are numerous reports regarding obesity and vitamin D relationship in the literature. Researchers tried to investigate obesity and vitamin D link in a low income district between normal and obese children Material and methods: Retrospectively BMI and vitamin D values of 149 children were compared in one year period. Children under 5 years could not be included because they took vitamin D supplements regularly. Both to reduce bias and nullify seasonal effects on vitamin D research was conducted all year long. Statistical analysis was conducted in each group separately to observe the relation between BMI and vitamin D values. Results: An inverse relation was observed between BMI and vitamin D values. Results were similar to previous reports in the literature.

Open Journal of Pediatrics, 2016

We tried to emphasize the importance of psychological status analysis of the mothers of children,... more We tried to emphasize the importance of psychological status analysis of the mothers of children, who have abnormal Body Mass Index (BMI), when treating these children.

Methods: After the ethical approval was obtained, the survey-I was conducted among 500 girls aged 9-18 who were admitted to Kagıthane State Hospital for various illnesses. NCSS (Number Cruncher Statistical System) 2007&PASS (Power Analysis and Sample Size) 2008 Statistical Software (Utah, USA) Program were used. When evaluating the study data in addition to the descriptive statistical methods, Pearson Correlation Test was used regarding the menstruation age and the relevant relations. The significance was evaluated at p<0.05 level. Findings: In our study of menarcheal age, the mean of participants' menarcheal age was 12.84±1.21 years. When the relation between the participants' and their mothers' menarcheal age was analyzed, a statistically significant positive correlation was found (r=0,389; p<0,01).There was no statistically significant relation between the participants' menarcheal age and the body mass index levels (p>0,05). Discussion: A significant positive relation was found between mean menarcheal age of girls in Kagıthane region and the mean menarcheal age of their mothers. No relation between amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, premestrual syndrome, menorrhagia, menometrorhaggia body mass index and the early menarcheal age, was seen. However, the shift of menarche age to earlier age observed in previous studies was seen to be related to obesity, osteoporosis and to cancer. Thus, further detailed studies are needed to be conducted regarding the shift of menarcheal age to earlier years.

Annelere mamalar hakkındaki fikirleri açık uçlu olarak sorulduğunda %68,8'i mamalara güvenmediğini, %8,3'u fikri olmadığını belirtmişti. Sonuç: Annelerin doğumdan itibaren bebeklerini anne sütü ile beslemeyi seçtikleri görülmekteyken, ilerleyen aylarda anneler tamamen sezgilerine dayanarak anne sütünün yetmediği, bebeklerinin doymadıkları duygusuna kapılmaktadırlar. Özellikle ilk 6 aydaki çocuk sağlığı izlemlerinde normal gelişim gösteren bebeklerin annelerine, annenin sütünün bebeğin gelişimi için yeterli olduğu mutlaka belirtilmeli, anneler bebeklerini sadece anne sütü ile besleme konusunda desteklenmeli ve cesaretlendirilmelidir.

Research paper thumbnail of Identification of respiratory syncthial virus in nasal secretions in lower respiratory tract infections

International Journal of Academic Research, 2017

Researcher tried to identify respiratory synchytial virus(RSV) positivity in children 0-24 months... more Researcher tried to identify respiratory synchytial virus(RSV) positivity in children 0-24 months old ,which is a cause of lower respiratory tract infection especially in children 0-6 years of age. 55 children 0-24 months old with a diagnosis of lower respiratory infection were searched for RSV virus in their nasopharingeal secretions and their pysical examination and pulmonary radiographic findings were analyzed. RSV positivity was 40 percent in nasal secretions in lower respiratory infections.RSV positivity was 69 percent in 0-6 months, 29 percent in 6-12 months 2 percent in 12-24 months.Crepitant rales were detected in 95 percent of patients and increased peri hilar vascularity incidence was 81 percent. Research findings is similar to the RSV positivity levels in the literature for children with a diagnosis of lower respiratory infection with a value of 40 percent in this research.Since main aetiology of lower respiratory infections in children under five years of age is viral, a rapid test detecting RSV precludes unfounded antibiotic usage.
