An applied research methodology was employed. Also, a descriptive-survey method was used for data gathering. The statistical population consisted of the companies involved in the supply of agricultural inputs and implements in three provinces, namely Tehran, Fars and Isfahan. The instrument for gathering the data required was a five scales likert type questionnaire. One hundred fourteen managers were selected as samples through random sampling. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed for data analysis using Spss/win21 and smart PLS3. The reliability of the instrument was supported by a pilot-test, Cronbach's alpha, composite reliability and load factors, and the f...

Computers and Electronics in Agriculture, 2020

The application of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) has been promoted worldwide as an approach to ... more The application of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) has been promoted worldwide as an approach to smart farming, sustainable resource management and improved crop productivity. Despite their promotion, WSNs are not widely adopted in the whole world, especially by small-scale farmers. The adoption of WSN technologies is strongly affected by the perceptions of farmers who are the main users and potential adopters of such technology. Yet, the way WSN technology is perceived has been poorly studied. This study aims at closing this gap by investigating the small-scale farmers' perception regarding the application of WSNs for farming systems in Khuzestan Province, Iran. This research employed Q-methodology, an approach that integrates both qualitative and quantitative data allowing to study individuals' subjective understandings of a specific topic. The Q-sort procedure was performed in the field with twenty-five small-scale cereal farmers (with less than 2 ha of land). Next Q-factor analyses were conducted using the PQMethod software. Results propose to group farmers along with four types of perceptions regarding the application of WSNs, namely support-seekers, resistance-adherents, optimists and adoptive-adherents. These four groups cover 67% of the variance across perceptions. Various perceptions have shown that farmers have different views on WSN applications. Awareness of these perceptions can provide a valuable frame for policy and decision-makers, and allow for addressing the farmers' concerns and for developing appropriate and specific strategies for each group.

Research paper thumbnail of Agricultural land conversion: Reviewing drought impacts and coping strategies

The paper further investigates coping strategies at three levels; i.e., micro (local), meso (national), and macro (international), in order to mitigate drought impacts that are classified as economic, social, and environmental. This paper shows that ALC, drought and coping strategies are in a reciprocal relationship and can have either a positive or negative influence on each other. The paper concludes that the complex and multidimensional nature of drought requires the development of an integrated approach that focuses on the governments' collaboration with different stakeholders. Such an integrated approach can improve drought risk management implementations, decrease vulnerability and construct resilience and coping capacity at all levels in order to deal with droughts.

The required data were gathered trough 3 instruments; ie, interviews, field observations, and archived review. The collected data were then analyzed using a 3-step coding mechanism: open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. The findings well revealed that the major factors affecting rural entrepreneurship development in Manoojan county fell into 9 categories as individual, sociocultural, infrastructural, natural and ecological, legal, educational, institutional, political, and economic. The interactive mechanism of the factors was in conformity with the grounded theory, and paradigm model under 3 theoretical components.

Transforming the subsistence-oriented production system into a market-oriented production system ... more Transforming the subsistence-oriented production system into a market-oriented production system as a way to increase the smallholder farmer's income and reduce rural poverty has been in the policy spotlight of many developing countries, including Ethiopia. However, there are no adequate studies in Ethiopia, particularly, in study area of West Hararghe zone that focusing on the determinants of smallholder commercialization in horticultural crops. This study has identified household level determinants of the output side commercialization decision and level of commercialization in horticultural crops in Gemechis district, West Hararghe zone, Oromia National Regional State of Ethiopia. The study used cross-sectional data obtained from a sample of 160 smallholder horticultural farmers selected randomly from four peasant associations in the district. A double hurdle model was applied to analyze the determinants of the commercialization decision and level of commercialization. In first hurdle, the result of Probit Regression Model revealed that, gender, distance to the nearest market, and cultivated land played a significant role in smallholder commercialization decision. In the second hurdle, the result of Truncated Regression Model revealed that, household education, household size, access to irrigation, cultivated land, livestock, and distance to the nearest market were the key determinants of the level of commercialization. Synthesis of double hurdle model result showed that farm size and distance to the nearest market were cross-cutting determinants of smallholder horticultural crops commercialization. The study recommends the need for designing appropriate intervention mechanisms focusing on the abovementioned factors so as to improve the performance of horticultural crops commercialization.

As a result, educational institutions play a very crucial role in supplying today's societies with much needed, adequately skilled and reasonably competent human resources. The main purpose of this study was to investigate how universities could be manipulated towards polishing entrepreneurial skills of their graduates. Based on Krejcie and Morgan sample size table, a group of 110 academics out of an access population (N=382) of Bu-Ali Sina academic staff were randomly selected. A questionnaire was designed and then validated asking a panel of experts for their comments. Reliability of the instrument calculated to be 0.90 in alpha Cronbach's scale. Results of the enquiry indicated that cooperation of universities with other local organizations (for example, outreach programs), elaborately directed apprenticeship courses, up-to-date educational content (in response to cutting edge technologies) and use of creativity-centered methods of teaching were mentioned to be the most effective enhancing entrepreneurial skills of graduates, according to BASU academic staff. An exploratory factor analysis that followed revealed that a number of activities labeled as orientation and a group of variables named auxiliary proved to be the most and the least influential factors, respectively, towards having university graduates with enhanced entrepreneurial skills.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between personal characteristics and job satisfaction. Approach: A survey of 52 extension workers was conducted in Fars Province, southern Iran. To collect data, a questionnaire including Bray field and Rothe Job Satisfaction Index was used. Results: The study found that the majority of the extension workers (65.5%) belonged to intermediate level of job satisfaction, followed by 29.1 and 5.5% belonging to high and low level of job satisfaction, respectively. Regression results also indicated that the full model was moderately successful, explaining 45% of the variances in the job satisfaction. Two independent variables that accounted for the explained variances were monthly salary (27%) and marital status (18%). Conclusions/Recommendations: Administration should conduct a periodic needs assessment to determine the level of job satisfaction of personnel and identify methods for increasing satisfaction based on these findings.
