The aim of this article is to investigate the effects of hosting mega-events on cities. We investigated the positive and negative managerial aspects of the America's Cup for residents of Naples. Significant differences were highlighted between the perceptions of the first and second race concerning economic, socio-cultural and political benefits.

In an increasingly globalized economic environment, businesses wishing to operate in foreign mark... more In an increasingly globalized economic environment, businesses wishing to operate in foreign markets must be familiar with the cultural context of the host country, its rules and the rules of entry. cultural shock between subjects with very different beliefs and values can lead to costly failures. The culture is therefore one of the key aspects to consider in the internationalization strategies. In fact, if cultural difference is well-managed can lead to innovative business practices and sustainable sources of competitive advantage in the opposite case the failure of the operation with the entire business consequences. In the light of contemporary social events, economic and political, the study of Islamic cultural variable for entry of Italian companies in the countries of the southern Mediterranean is a necessary condition to avoid the bankruptcy of any type of commercial operation and the more of the operations direct investment on site.

According to our results, America's Cup contributed to create a positive image of Naples as touristic destination. Results of this study indicated that both male and famale enjoied American's Cup in Naples. These results can be used by policy-makers in planning future turistic events in Naples.

The empirical analysis of Robbiki Leather City allows us to overcome the official sources of information diffusion. Between local and global: A geographical analysis of Italian agro-food system of innovation. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 23 (1): 31–33 The agro-food is one of the main manufacturing industries in Italy. It accounts for more than 2 million fi rms, making up 9% of the Gross Domestic Products (GDP). However, Italian agro-food industry has several weak points such as small dimension of fi rms, county’s dependence on agricultural products realized abroad and weak innovative activities. Based on these assumptions, this paper offers a geographical analysis of Italian agro-food system of innovation aimed to evidence actions that fi rms and policy-makers have to realize. Specifi cally the paper evidences that fi rms have to invest in internationalization and innovation and policy-makers have to support them in several ways.

H... more ABSTRACT Several studies aim to evidence the relevance of innovation in the agro-food industry. However, comparative studies between regions are almost absent. With the aim to fill this literature gap, this paper aims to present a geographical analysis of innovation in the agro-food value chain. With the goal of presenting a geographical comparative analysis of innovation in the agro-food value chain, we present results of some interviews conducted with a sample of Italian firms. We selected two case studies to evidence how institutional contest affects firms’ innovative activities.

In particular, the Mediterranean Sea, is a symbolic meeting place between very different cultures. Among the countries that overlook the Mediterranean see of this special attention can be given to cultural differences between Italy and the countries of North Africa (Egypt, Libya and the Maghreb countries like Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia). The proximity geography and contemporary socio-political events require an analysis of the socioeconomic interactions between North African and Italian communities.

However, the cases of failure evidence the difficulties entailed in successful integration processes (Carbonara & Caiazza, 2010). The biggest challenge of the cross-border MA Larsson & Finkelstein, 1999), cultural change (Kavanagh & Ashkanasy, 2004), cultural convergence (Birkinshaw et al., 2000), acculturation (Larsson & Lubatkin, 2001; Nahavandi & Malekzadeh, 1988), double-layered acculturation (Barkema et al., 1996), acculturative stress (Very et al., 1996). Although cultural differences in the current cross-border M&A wave are higher compared to the previous one, M&A success depends mainly on the way in which these differences are managed in each phase of the process (Kalthoff et al., 1997). Purpose – In the last years global economy has become more integrated and multidirectional. Thus,... more Purpose – In the last years global economy has become more integrated and multidirectional. Thus, in a world characterized by multiples center of economic power, firms need to define multipolar strategies based on geographical diversification in several countries that makes them able to compete with everyone, from everywhere and for everything. Despite of the relevance of such strategies, literature on this topic is almost absent. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach – Considering the exploratory nature of the research objectives, the authors present a case study for highlighting the main challenges of cross-border M & A under multipolar-world pressures. Findings – The paper evidences new trends in economic geography and multipolar strategies. Originality/value – The paper offers a new perspective on multipolar strategies.

The diffusion of power across an increasingly broad range of countries has opened a window of opportunity for firms from China that want to compete globally. These firms understand their options in exploiting economic geography, and they frequently use cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&As) to penetrate developed countries. The United States and Europe are becoming natural destinations for such investments because of their huge markets and leading-edge technologies.
