The aim of this study was to describe a single-center experience in the treatment of refractory HF patients with peritoneal dialysis (PD). Retrospective study of 5 patients included in a single PD Unit, showing symptoms and signs of severe refractory congestive HF to optimal pharmacological therapy (NYHA class IV). Clinical and laboratory parameters, survival, hospitalization, and peritonitis rates were recorded. Patients were followed for 9.36 (± 6.36) months; population mean age was 62 (± 16) years and Charlson's comorbidity index was 7.2 (± 2.1). After PD therapy, functional class of NYHA significantly improved (class IV to class II in 4 patients). Doppler-echocardiography improved in terms of ejection fraction (EF) or systolic pressure of the pulmonary artery (SPPA) in 3 patients. No patient was readmitted due to HF. ...

He received immunosuppression with basiliximab, tacrolimus, mycophenolate mofetil, and prednisone. Immediate diuresis and a good allograft function were soon observed. Six months later, the serum creatinine level increased to 2.6 mg/dL. A renal allograft biopsy revealed interstitial fibrosis and tubular atrophy grade II. Toxicity of calcineurin inhibitor was assumed and, after a switch for everolimus, renal function improved. However, since March 2014, renal function progressively deteriorated. A second allograft biopsy showed no new lesions. Two months later, the patient was admitted due to anuria, haematochezia with anaemia, requiring 5 units of packed red blood cells, and diffuse skin thickening. Colonoscopy showed haemorrhagic patches in the colon and the rectum; histology diagnosis was Kaposi sarcoma (KS). A skin biopsy revealed cutaneous involvement of KS. Rapid clinical ...

However, there is no systematic approach that can be easily applied in practice. We argue that an effective SOA approach requires an integrated view of organizational business processes, where services are explicitly related to business models components. Accomplishing these requirements is vital for bridging the gap between business needs and their supporting services. This work proposes a top-down method for service identification and analysis from business process models. Each step of the method implements a set of heuristics that are also specified. The method is presented in detail, and constitutes a systematic guide for service identification and analysis. A case study is conducted to demonstrate the use of the method in practice. Service orientation promises to significantly improve the manageability and changeability of increasingly complex information systems (Aier et al. 2011). In addition, SOA has been advertised as an answer to enable a flexible alignment of

Most of medium to large airlines have specialized teams which focus on recovering disrupted schedules with very little automation. This paper presents a new automated approach to solve both the Aircraft Assignment Problem (AAP) and the Aircraft Recovering Problem (ARP), where the solutions are responsive to unforeseen events. The developed algorithm, based on Ant Colony Optimization, aims to minimize the operational costs involved and is designed to schedule and reschedule flights dynamically by using a sliding window. Test results tend to indicate that this approach is feasible, both in terms of time and quality of the proposed solutions.

As such, establishing strategic goals becomes a very important practice. However, the big challenge is in the designing of processes aligned with the goals. Modeling goals and processes in an integrated way improves the traceability among strategic and operational layers, easing up the alignment problem.

The thermal dependence of the high field magnetization is investigated in the dilute regime and the observed properties can be attributed to individual particles. Our results show that, at low temperatures, the structure of our nanoparticles can be seen as being made of a monodomain ordered core and a surface shell of disordered spins, which can fluctuate freely at high temperatures. Finite sizes effects have implications on the temperature dependence of the saturation magnetization mS . Its variations are well accounted for by an effective Bloch law with an exponent larger than the bulk value for very small mean diameter (3.5 nm) and a Bloch constant slightly size decreasing for larger ones. A sharp increase of the high field magnetization, more marked as the size decreases, is evidenced at low temperature. It is related to a freezing of surface spins in a disordered state below a temperature of the order of 70 K and adjusted to a reduced exponential behavior.

The thermal variation of the hyperfine splitting allows one to determine the anisotropy energy. Our results show that this energy is due to an enhanced surface contribution.

ABSTRACT Magnetization and Mossbauer spectroscopy measurements are performed at low temperature u... more ABSTRACT Magnetization and Mossbauer spectroscopy measurements are performed at low temperature under high field, on nanoparticles with a nickel ferrite core and a maghemite shell. These nanoparticles present finite size and surface effects, together with exchange anisotropy. High field magnetization brings the evidences of a monodomain ordered core and surface spins freezing in disorder at low temperature. Mossbauer spectra at 4.2 K present an extra contribution from the disordered surface which is field dependent. Field and size dependences of this latter show a progressive spin alignment along the ferrite core which is size dependent. The weak surface pinning condition of the nanoparticles confirms that the spin disorder is localized in the external shell. The underfield decrease in the mean canting angle in the superficial shell is then directly related to the unidirectional exchange anisotropy through the interface between the ordered core and the disordered shell. The obtained anisotropy field H Ea scales as the inverse of the nanoparticle diameter, validating its interfacial origin. The associated anisotropy constant K Ea equals 2.5×10-4 J / m 2 .

Both magnetic fluids cause cellular death, mutagenicity and severe inflammatory reactions, being very toxic and thus not biocompatible.
