socially, economically, and politically. Specifically, this paper focuses on the African continent’s
politics concerning corporate corruption, corporate governance, and ethical leadership. This study
aims to critically reflect on and evaluate the significance of curbing and combating corruption,
promoting governance and ethics in Africa, and furthering and practising those principles. It
employed a case study research design with a random sampling approach. Secondary data was
analysed using content analysis, incorporating a critical assessment of relevant in-depth literature
reviews to attain the study objective. The study results revealed that: Unethical leaders succumb
to corruption, causing Africa’s corruption to spiral out of control. Ethical leaders, on the other
hand, resist corruption; African leaders and authorities should take steps to fight corruption
through ethics and governance; African corporations have become increasingly corrupt; corporate
governance and ethical leadership have declined in Africa; African politicians have uncurbed
power to advance their private gains, and finally, African leaders need to change their mindsets
and cultures to achieve economic growth. This study emphasises and reiterates the importance
of dealing effectively with corporate corruption and advancing governance and ethics to benefit
the African population and the continent. It further provides a broad and deeper understanding of
corruption, ethics, and governance. The conceptual, strategic model provided by this study may
be selected and used by African leaders, authorities, boards of directors, shareholders, and Chief
Executive Officers (CEOs), as a tool to address corruption in African organisations and institutions.

This paper advocates that education and experience play a vital role in improving the abilities of ministers in policymaking and governance. It recommends reassessing the current practices of ministerial appointments in South Africa and considering the importance of hiring politically untainted technocrats to fill competency voids. This research contributes to the current literature on efficient governance in transitional democracies. Moreover, it offers practical strategies for enhancing the performance excellence of ministers and policies within the South African GNU.

This issue is a contemporary crisis that has massive implications for human resource development. The study utilised a theoretical lens as its research technique to gain a more in-depth comprehension of the complex nature of the problem at hand to achieve this objective. The results indicate that organisations fail to train low-skilled employees to reduce job losses attributable to technological advancements. As a result, these employees are at risk of losing their jobs due to the rapid advancements in technology. Therefore, this study argues that this is a crucial area that needs to be addressed in order to prevent job losses and ensure the longevity of these employees' careers.

By embracing a qualitative descriptive methodology, a comprehensive systematic review of literature was conducted, exploring the myriad facets of corporate governance, including its principles, processes, systems, legal frameworks, regulations, and corrective mechanisms. Findings from the review reveal an inverse relationship between robust corporate governance and the prevalence of egocentric leadership. A significant challenge identified is the limitation faced by boards of directors, metaphorically described as being "without a spare wheel", which hinders their capacity to address these governance challenges effectively in today's dynamic work environment. Furthermore, conflicts of interest were found to severely compromise the integrity of governance practices. It is recommended that boards failing to rectify non-compliance within their tenure should be subject to dissolution, contingent upon the specifics of the case. Additionally, it is imperative that organisations conduct thorough assessments and reviews of the effectiveness of their corporate governance, enhancing internal controls to enforce governance principles rigorously. This study is pioneering in integrating the transformation of corporate governance while delineating the obstacles encountered, concluding that organisations can promote and uphold exemplary governance by implementing stringent measures against violations and by rewarding adherence among stakeholders.

It recommended that governments amend labor laws, review employment policies, and collaborate with stakeholders to create customized employment initiatives. Moreover, it suggested further research using quantitative or mixed methods approaches to validate these findings. The study further advocates positive transformations within the industrial and organizational psychology by advancing workplace diversity and inclusivity.

Research paper thumbnail of Mixed Methods Exploration towards a Proposed Strategic Union Management Framework for 4IR Union Effectiveness

In global contexts, labour unions play a crucial role in enhancing the employment relationship (E... more In global contexts, labour unions play a crucial role in enhancing the employment relationship (ER) between employers and employees by negotiating and protecting employee rights and interests. Effective union strategies use the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) to advance employee development; contribute to the business; and grow themselves and economies. This article presents the results of an in-depth mixed methods research exploration of the South African information and communications technology (ICT) union-management strategy towards finding and proposing a strategic management framework for 4IR union effectiveness. There is scarce literature on the relationship between union leadership, effectiveness, limitations, strategies and 4IR integration with people, productivity and planetary advancement. In the ICT sector, which is fundamental to advancing the 4IR and growing the economy, effective labour-management strategies must defend employee interests. This empirical study adopted a three-phased sequential mixed methods research design. Phase 1 included quantitative findings (N = 314), Phase 2 qualitative findings (N = 12), while Phase 3 triangulated the findings from phases 1 and 2. Factor analysis was employed for the quantitative phase and thematic analysis for the qualitative phase. All aspects regarding ethical considerations adhered to research ethics. The Phase 3 findings revealed several common quantitative factors which were correlated with the qualitative themes. To advance in the 4IR workplace, union leaders must comply with International Labour Organisation (ILO) and national legislation; collaborate and network on effective strategies; and develop themselves, employees and societies. Theoretically, the study adds to the body of knowledge in union-management strategy in the 4IR, ICT and South Africa.
