In a study of 991 employees in a large university in Vietnam, the model is largely supported. The findings suggest that in-role behaviour has a significant mediating role in the effect of career ambition on extra-role behaviour and that this mediating effect is stronger among the group of employees who have participated in advanced ideological development in the context of Vietnamese higher education. This study advances the understanding of an underdeveloped relationship between career ambition and employee performance behaviour and expands the knowledge of the impact of ideological development at work.

This need is clearly seen in our global economy where competitive economic realities result in a steady stream of economic activities being outsourced to offshore manufacturing facilities and service centres. The ability to replace this flow with new offerings is largely dependent on a society’s innovative capacity. This research project seeks to understand the roles of business schools in building innovative capacity within young graduates. Interviews and focus groups will be held with UK universities, leading graduate recruiters, entrepreneurs and students to understand the challenge of developing creative capacity from the perspectives of these key stakeholders. It is anticipated that a richer understanding of the context, ‘real world’ requirements and innovative pedagogical approaches will illuminate opportunities narrowing the skill gap as...

Both perceived organizational politics and career ambition moderate the mediated effect of harmonious workplace climate on employee altruistic behavior via satisfaction over material rewards.Originality/valueThis study advances the social exchange theory by showing that the norm of reciprocity (e.g. harmonious workplace climate in this study)...

Design/methodology/approach The author uses book review method to identify prominent ideas in those books that not only have significantly challenged but also contributed to transforming the world of business and management in both academia and practice. Findings Among many great ideas that Senge has developed, spirituality, mental models, systems thinking, and a sustainability mentality are prominent ones, which have set up trends for both researchers and practitioners in business and management. Originality/value Those ideas are interwoven, intertwined and have powerfully shaped new ways to see the world and act upon.

Embedded in the career ecosystem of an emerging-economy country, we investigate the mobility dynamics of people in different stages of their self-employment career. We conducted in-depth interviews with 35 individuals who opted for entrepreneurship or selfemployed careers, and deploy the interpretive phenomenology to explore the dynamics of career mobility of self-employment. The results demonstrate different patterns of mobility between self-and paid employment during individuals' career sequences. The different push and pull forces that influence mobility are identified and explained. The study advances the theories of career and entrepreneurship literature by not only illustrating the mobility dynamics of self-employment as a stage of one's career but by also exploring the dynamic mechanisms of the mobility, drawing on the career ecosystem framework.

This allows to understand the main elements of a general gamified system and its main applications. Via a systematic review of 203 studies addressing management contexts and gamification, it develops a holistic framework for the analysis of gamification in management areas. The study concludes by setting out a list of questions to direct future research in order to increase the impacts of this innovative and strategic research area within businesses and organizations.

We tested the hypotheses using structural equation modeling with survey data collected from 1101 employees in India in various organizations. As hypothesized, we found gender contact and flexible work arrangements to be positively associated with sexualization of the work environment. On the other hand, self-respect was negatively associated with sexualization. Also, as predicted, sexualization of the work environment was positively associated with emotional exhaustion. Further, sexualization of the work environment mediated the relationship between the antecedent variables (gender contact, flexible work arrangement, and self-respect) and emotional exhaustion.

Findings show that group engagement increases individual attitudes toward social responsibility. We also found that individuals with low attitudes toward social responsibility are more likely to change their opinions when group members show more positive attitudes toward social responsibility. Conversely, individuals with high attitudes do not change much, independent of group characteristics. To better analyze the effect of group dynamics, the study proposes to split social responsibility into relative and absolute components. Findings show that relative social responsibility is correlated with but different from absolute social responsibility although the latter is more susceptible than the former to group dynamics. Interviews were conducted with 12 supervisor-student dyads, totalling 24 interviews, to explore both student and supervisor perspectives on their own lived experiences of their expectations during the journey through the PhD. The research revealed four main dimensions that the interviewees expressed during the interview process: (a) their perceptions of the role of the primary supervisor on the doctoral student's work; (b) what they expect from their counterparts in terms of intellectual capacity; (c) in terms of emotional intelligence; and (d) in terms of resources or logistics. New findings related to intellectual capacity and emotional intelligence will be useful for both doctoral students and supervisors.

Design/methodology/approach: The paper utilizes a conceptual framework for the analysis of antecedents and outcomes of Senge's five disciplines, focusing on specific factors unique to the HE sector. Findings: The explication of the model manifests its relevance and applicability for the HE sector: it represent how universities operate as learning organizations and posits the anticipated interactions among specific constructs associated with Senge's five disciplines within the HE sector. Practical implications: The paper manifests a causal model that links variables in the learning organization, a perspective that would be instrumental for HE institutions to achieve competitive advantage. Originality/value: The paper provides added value both for academics and executives interested in the analysis of the complexity of Senge's five disciplines for HE institutions.
