Ibrahim-Tanko is a seasoned development professional. He is a governance and civil society expert who has worked with the civil society community in Ghana for over 20 years. For the past 15 years, he has been leading in the development and management of Voice and Accountability programmes, including the Strengthening Transparency Accountability and Responsiveness in Ghana (STAR-Ghana) programme. He has been involved in and acquired key competencies in development management, civil society strengthening and social development.
Ibrahim-Tanko is currently the Programme Director for the phase two of the STAR-Ghana programme. He was the Team Leader of the first phase of the STAR-Ghana programme, based on whose success the donors decided to fund a second phase. He was at various times the Ghana Country Director of VSO Ghana, the Northern Ghana Programmes Director of CARE International in Ghana and Project Manager for a number of CIDA and DANIDA funded projects. He has also engaged in several consultancy assignments which include a political economy analysis (PEA) of the DFID-funded Western regional Coastal Foundation, Team Leader for the mid-term review (MTR) of the £17.5m DFID-funded Mobilising for Development (M4D) programme in Nigeria; Technical Advisor for the accountability work stream of the DFID-funded Ghana Oil and Gas for Inclusive Growth (GOGIG) programme and the independent review of the community engagement strategies of the T-TEL (Transforming Teacher Education and Learning) project funded by DFID.
Ibrahim-Tanko has demonstrated the ability to achieve results. He led the STAR-Ghana team to achieve an overall rating of A+ in the DFID final evaluation of the programme and an ‘Amber-Green’ rating from the UK Parliament’s Independent Commission on Aid Impact (ICAI). In recognition of his work and achievements, Ibrahim-Tanko became the first recipient of the World Bank Group’s Leadership award for Social Accountability in Africa in May 2015. He has also been recognised by the Northern Regional Coordinating Council and the Consortium of NGOs in northern Ghana for his contributions to social development in northern Ghana.
Mr Ibrahim-Tanko holds a B.SC. Admin degree with a major in Accounting and a Master of Arts degree in Social policy studies, both from the University of Ghana. He holds post-graduate diplomas in NGO management and Human Resource Management.
