Two subgenera are recognized within the genus, i.e. Tephrosia subg. Barbistyla Brummit and Tephrosia subg. Tephrosia. Relationships within the genus and among its close relatives in the Millettieae (Apurimacia Harms, Chadsia Bojer, Mundulea Benth., Pyranthus Du Puy & Labat, Ptycholobium Harms and Requienia DC., i.e. the Tephrosia-clade) are not well understood. This study presents results of nuclear internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and plastid DNA sequence data (matK, rbcLa, ycf1) generated and analysed for the Tephrosia-clade, based on a representative sampling (236 taxa) of these genera across the world, and especially within Tephrosia. Preliminary results indicate that Tephrosia is polyphyletic, with Chadsia, Mundulea, Ptycholobium and Requienia embedded within. Apurimacia and Pyranthus are placed outside of the main Tephrosia clade, although the support for this is weak in some analyses. In addition, Tephrosia subgenus Barbistyla is recovered as monophyletic in most analyses, while T. subgenus Tephrosia is polyphyletic. These results and their implications for generic and infrageneric classification within the Tephrosia-clade will be discussed.

Contaminations of compound feeds by AFs do not only affect animal health, but the economy as well. It is for this purpose that a study was carried out to establish the quality of South African feeds with respect to AF-producing fungi, establish a correlation between levels of AFs and determinant gene (nor-1) responsible for producing these toxins.

We aimed to define long-term outcome in a transatlantic ARVD/C cohort of 1001 individuals. Methods: Clinical/genetic characteristics and follow-up data of ARVD/C index patients (n=439, fulfillment of 2010 criteria in all) and family members (n=562) were assessed. Genetic screening of desmosomal and TMEM43 and PLN genes was performed in index patients. Results: Mutations, predominantly in PKP2, were identified in 276/439 (63%). Index patients presented mostly with sustained ventricular arrhythmias (VA) (268/439, 61%). Recurrent sustained VA (in 301/416 (72%) patients presenting alive) characterized follow-up (median 7 years) with 10/63 (16%) sudden cardiac deaths (SCD) in patients without implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) versus 2/335 (0.6%) in those with ICDs. Overall, cardiac mortality during follow-up (6%) and cardiac transplantation rate (4%) w...

Methods: Demographic, phenotypic and genotypic data of 502 patients with ARVC diagnosis (2010 Task Force Criteria) from Johns Hopkins and Utrecht (NL) ARVD/C registries was obtained and long term clinical outcomes ascertained. Results: Late presentation was seen in 104 (21%) patients (38% with PKP2 mutation; no DSP or DSG2 mutation carrier) with 3% being ≥ 65 years at diagnosis. Sustained ventricular tachycardia (VT) is the major (43%) mode of presentation in the elderly while cardiac syncope is infrequent (p<0.001). The elderly are significantly less likely to harbor a pathogenic mutation (53%; p=0.005), have precordial T wave repolarization changes (p<0.001) and have lower ventricular ectopy burden (median count 1503 vs 2497; p=0.026) compared to younger patients.

The principal reaction products were stable Z-thioacrylates, while the reaction with methanethiol also gave a minor E-configured product, and the reaction with hydrogen sulfide Z,E-and Z,Z-dimers. The thioacrylates were separated using a narrow-bore C18-amide column and detected using a photodiode array detector at wavelengths around 300nm. When the sulphides were produced from their sodium-thiolate salts and flushed through a series of impingers, nearly 100% of the generated hydrogen sulfide reacted and was trapped in the first impinger, while approximately 70% of methanethiol was absorbed by reaction with ethyl-propiolate. Our data show that the reaction of thiols with propiolic acid derivatives has the potential for application in a device for sampling of airborne thiols.
