The purpose of this research was to explore the difference in junior secondary students’ academic... more The purpose of this research was to explore the difference in junior secondary students’ academic performance in Entrepreneurial Curriculum of Business Studies based on their attitudes to the subject, parental influence, and career aspirations. A sample of 290 urban and rural Junior Secondary Three (9 th grade) students in secondary schools in AkwaIbom State of Nigeria was surveyed. Students’ academic performance in Business Studies differed significantly on the basis of attitudes and parental influence. The variable of career aspirations made no significant difference in the students’ academic achievement in Business Studies. Implications for school and teachers’ consideration of students’ characteristics in implementation of Business Studies curriculum are suggested.

Often referred to as the “man in the middle,” the occupant of the position frequently wanders about like Moses in search of the Promised Land. The “Promised Land” which the University administrator seeks is represented by a clear role definition of what he is supposed to do, the authority to carry out his responsibilities, and the respect which he feels he deserves for handling a job which has become one of the most difficult and complex in Nigerian University system. There are many reasons why the job of the Vice Chancellor, Dean of Faculty or Head of Department in a University system has become so difficult – reasons which will be identified and discussed later in this paper. However, it is evident that if the University administrator of which the Vice Chancellor symbolizes is to respond effectively to the challenge of his position, he will need to become more aware of different role options, more knowledge...

The study which adopted the historical research design analysed secondary sources like academic j... more The study which adopted the historical research design analysed secondary sources like academic journals, books, the print and the electronic media. Twenty-one (21) out of 105 articles contained in 13 sources were analyzed for information. Two research questions which guided the study centred on factors responsible for the low level of academic research in the Third Worldacademia and on measures for curbing those factors. Information collected were analyzed using frequency counts and percentages. Three out of seven factors mentioned which stood out because they were largely mentioned were poor research methods, failure to collaborate and poor dissemination of research results. Suggestions toward improvement centred on review of tertiary education curricula to embrace modern ICT skills by students and staff, collaboration and initiatives from individual tertiary institutions. The recommendations centred on the creation of research and development departments in each tertiary institut...

The study used filmed drama in teaching with the aim of fostering gender equity in education and ... more The study used filmed drama in teaching with the aim of fostering gender equity in education and employment opportunity among youths. To achieve this aim, a quasi-experimental design was employed using a sample of 400 students which was randomly drawn from the population of 4900 students in three south-south states in Nigeria. The questionnaire on attitude to gender equity on educational and employment opportunities were pre-tested on the subjects after whom they were exposed to the filmed drama on peace education then the post-test. Dependent t-test analysis, descriptive statistics and focus group discussion were used. The post-test attitude towards gender equity in educational and employment opportunities was significantly higher than the pre-test attitude, indicating a significant improvement in their attitude after exposure to peace education via the filmed drama. The following sections discuss each of these three important aspects of the job of the educational administrator.

The students' variables' being examined vis-à-vis academic performance in Business Studies were: 1) gender and 2) self-concept. Students' academic performance in Business Studies differed significantly on the basis of gender and self-concept. Implications for students' personal variables considerations in the teaching-learning of Business Studies are suggested.
