The study comprised 28 patients aged 37-66 years (11 men and 17 women) who had 240 implants inserted. The assessment of marginal bone loss in the examined patient cohort was made based on ortho-pantomographic X-ray images. For evaluation of the condition of the marginal bone around the implants during 46-month follow-up, with relation to the sociodemographic features of the patient, multi-generational linear models were used. Studies show that the loss of marginal bone around the implant increased with the age of the patient, but did not correlate significantly with the patient's gender or smoking habit.

It may be caused by exogenous or endogenous factors. In the former case, food, drink, as well as the environment might be sources of acids; in the latter, acids flowing into the oral cavity from the stomach and duodenum. Exogenous dental erosive lesions are localized mainly on the labial surfaces of the anterior teeth of the maxilla, while the endogenous ones can be found on the palatal and masticatory surfaces of the maxilla and the masticatory and buccal surfaces of the mandible. Reduced saliva secretion, which occurs in a number of diseases, also influences dental erosion, while erosion-causing factors and aggressive tooth brushing immediately after consuming acidic food increases the range and depth of erosion cavities. The consequence of dental erosion is teeth hypersensitivity, which results from exposure of dental tubules and of the...

Do objawów dziennych należą: poranne zmęczenie, zmiany osobowości i zaburzenia funkcji poznawczych, impotencja i obniżenie libido. Do najpoważniejszych należą: zaburzenia rytmu serca, nadciśnienie tętnicze, nadciśnienie płucne, zaburzenia funkcjonowania śródbłonka naczyń krwionośnych i zaburzenia metaboliczne. Do groźnych w skutkach powikłań bezdechu sennego należy ryzyko wypadków.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is characterized by at least 5 ten-second-long episodes of apnea or hypopnea, per hour of sleep. This disease may lead to severe, life-threatening complications. Therefore, risk analysis and its influence on disease intensity is crucial for proper implementation of preventive treatments. Objective. To determine the relation between the intensity of OSA expressed in Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI), and the anterior-posterior diameter of upper airways at the levels of soft palate and tongue base. Material and Method. Medical records of 41 patients with sleep apnea (AHI>4) diagnosed through polysomnographic examination obstructive were used for the study. The data consisted of: age and gender, polysomnographic examination results (AHI), lateral cephalogram with cephalomertic analysis, together with measurements of the upper and lower pharyngeal depth according to McNamara. Statistical analysis was carried out in accordance with Pearson's r correlation coefficient test (Statistica 8.0 software package). Results. Analysis of the influence of upper airways diameter on the intensity of OSA showed that the value of upper airways diameter at the tongue base level had no statistically significant impact on the value of AHI (p=0.795). However, a statistically significant impact of the value of upper airways diameter on the AHI value (p=0.008) at the soft palate level was observed. Patients with OSA have narrowed upper airways diameter. The value of AHI increases with the decrease of upper diameter and is not dependent on a lower diameter value. Patients with a decreased upper airways diameter should be informed about potential breathing disorders during sleep.

Do objawów dziennych należą: poranne zmęczenie, zmiany osobowości i zaburzenia funkcji poznawczych, impotencja i obniżenie libido. Do najpoważniejszych należą: zaburzenia rytmu serca, nadciśnienie tętnicze, nadciśnienie płucne, zaburzenia funkcjonowania śródbłonka naczyń krwionośnych i zaburzenia metaboliczne. Do groźnych w skutkach powikłań bezdechu sennego należy ryzyko wypadków.

Wśród czynników ryzyka wymienia się: otyłość, anatomiczne i pozapalne nieprawidłowości budowy górnych dróg oddechowych, nieprawidłową higienę snu, niedorozwój kości szczęki i żuchwy. W następstwie jej rozwoju pojawiają się u pacjentów, liczne i zagrażające życiu powikłania. Utrzymywanie prawidłowej masy ciała, prawidłowa higiena snu, racjonalne stosowanie leków nasennych i odpowiednie leczenie chirurgiczno-ortodontyczne osób z wadami zgryzu i nieprawidłowościami anatomicznymi twarzoczaszki to podstawowe zasady zapobiegania OBS u zagrożonych tą chorobą.

The clinical study covered 30 patients aged 14-36 years suffering from diagnosed eating disorders and treated in closed psychiatric institutions. The control group comprised 30 healthy women at the mean age corresponding to that of the patient group. No relationships were confirmed between eating disorders and the intensity of dental caries. Eating disorders contribute to increased loss of dental hard tissues. In women suffering from eating disorders non-specific lesions in oral cavity are more common than in healthy women.
