The following of modern functionalism claimed by the Charter of Athens found a clear opposition in the multiple peripheral works coming from different regions, such as Scandinavia, Latin America and North America. They revealed other ways of thinking the modern architecture 2 • Old Europe started to rebuild their cities and boosted the morale of their societies. To reach this the ideas on urbanism were revised and adapted, what sparked theme discussions in the last phase of the CIAM congress with the cqnsequent birth of multiple groups critics with the epoch.

The present epoch is determined by the obsessive vision of architecture images. Under this condition, criticism could still develop new analytical tools appropriate to the reading of an architecture converted into image in order to unveil the presence of man in it. This view of criticism allows the architect to undertake the recovery of the Other as a contemporary need to return the "humanitas" at the centre of the architecture.Peer Reviewe

The architect, helped on multiple disciplines, lay out a wide palette of resources to characterize an abstract space and turn it into a singular one. Normally, the architect works with all the sensory possibilities that can interact between the architecture and the inhabitant. In consequence, the architectural atmosphere turns into something special with the power to influence his user. Nevertheless, the capacity to be moved by an architectural atmosphere also depends on the cultural, perceptive and psychological capacities of the individuals. The architecture research group "Atmospheres", from the Universitat Politecnica de Valencia, Spain (UPV), deals with how to design and communicate specific architectural atmospheres, and, at once, to frame both activities in the architectural pedagogic field (International Workshops: Atmospheres, 2010; Alter+...

This led many architects and critics to formulate theories and take up breaking disciplinary attitudes against that time. One of them was the English architect, urban planner and landscape designer Peter Shepheard who developed a professional, theoretical and academic career where the concept in between got relevance as one of the defi ning keys of the architectural design in the second half of the twentieth century. To Shepheard modern design should be the encounter between architecture, urbanism and landscape. This claim was preceded by different types of architectural works, urban projects, articles and publications on landscape design and garden which made him a leading voice in the British context. Shepheard encouraged landscapers architects to convince themselves that the three disciplines converge into one. The responsibility of the young profession of landscape architecture was to assume the ch...

Touring the modern home garden through its graphic visit helps to reveal the ideas expressed in the delimitation of its forms. Starting in the sinuous curves of Burle Marx, witnessing the static landscapes of Le Corbusier and the views framed by Mies van der Rohe, being introduced in the designs of Garrett Eckbo and then traveling across the different adaptations of nature in the drawings of Erskine, Neutra and Coderch will be the first steps in a process of a fascinating, long and lonely discovery. All these frames of garden suggest ways of interpreting the tangible reality that it is represented with the strokes of the drawing. This methodology invites anyone to read in the design its original and future desires, which as single words, they want to teach the meaning of the lines that shape it.
