Gain depletion can give rise to 2 dB OTDR errors at high gain.

In this way we develop studies on the behavior of such a phenomenon, critical when light is transmitted through long optical fibers. The focus in this paper

In this work we present the principle of operation and experimental results of this device. We show how this fiber polarizer can be used in transmission mode if the affected region of

Moreover, to ensure a high quality full-duplex communication when heterodyne generation is employed to obtain the microwave signal, a carefully choice of the laser sources is

Our results show that THz waves can indeed become a powerful tool for NDE of nonmetallic industrial equipment.

The result confirms that combined PMD+PDL effects introduce fluctuations larger than those estimated by simple root mean squared sum rules. When frequency-chirped optical sources are used, power penalties due to the combined effect of PMD and PDL are significantly increased

We find that the spectral performance can be improved if the gain needs are relaxed. A hole in the spectral dependence of the gain depletion was also observed, which could be related to the Spectral Hole Burning (SHB) phenomenon

We are able to continuously tune the single-photon phase difference between the interferometer arms using a phase modulator, which is synchronized with the gate window of the single-photon detectors. The phase control system employs a piezoelectric fiber stretcher to stabilize the phase drift in the interferometer. A single-photon net visibility of 0.97 is obtained, yielding future possibilities for experimental realizations of quantum repeaters in optical fibers and violation of Bell's inequalities using genuine energy-time entanglement.
