The Beni-Bousera massif contains ubiquitous pyroxenites of various types, organized into conspicu... more The Beni-Bousera massif contains ubiquitous pyroxenites of various types, organized into conspicuous layers ranging from 0.5 to 100 cm in thickness, hosted by peridotites. Integrated field features, petrographic observations, and geochemical analyses from 92 samples (whole rock major and trace elements data: 55 samples, microprobe data for minerals: 48 samples, and mineral trace elements data: 30 samples) from pyroxenites provide information to classify the rock types into four different groups typified as: (1) garnet pyroxenites, (2) spinel-garnet websterites, (3) spinel websterites, and (4) spinel chromium websterites. Type 1 rocks, occurring at the base of the massif, are considered as the most primitive type, garnet pyroxenites layers represent the vestiges of an old veined subcontinental lithosphere. Una de las peculiaridades mas notables de la region de alboran es la presencia de cuerpos ultrama... more Una de las peculiaridades mas notables de la region de alboran es la presencia de cuerpos ultramaficos de origen mantelico (lherzolitas orogenicas), imbricados en la corteza como resultado de la tectonica alpina. Esta tesis es una contribucion al conocimiento petrologico y geoquimico de estos cuerpos, y consiste en un estudio general sobre dos de los macizos mas importantes, localizados respectivamente en la zona batica occidental (macizo de ojen) y en el rif interno marroqui (macizo de beni bouzera). La investigacion realizada ha permitido confirmar a) la existencia de una zonalidad petrologica anomala, b) la existencia de una considerable heterogeneidad composicional incluso dentro del grupo de rocas dominante (lherzolitas), asi como establecer como mas probable una interpretacion de estos macizos en terminos de fragmentos de una misma lamina de manto infracontinental. The Beni Bousera peridotite contains a diversity of pyroxenite layers. Several studies have postu... more The Beni Bousera peridotite contains a diversity of pyroxenite layers. Several studies have postulated that at least some of them represent elongated strips of oceanic lithosphere recycled in the convective mantle. Some pyroxenites were, however, ascribed to igneous crystal segregation or melt-rock reactions. To further constrain the origin of these rocks, we collected 171 samples throughout the massif and examined their variability in relation with the tectono-metamorphic domains. A major finding is that all facies showing clear evidence for a crustal origin are concentrated in a narrow corridor of mylonitized peridotites, along the contact with granulitic country rocks. These peculiar facies were most likely incorporated at the mantle-crust boundary during the orogenic events that culminated in the peridotite exhumation. The other pyroxenites derive from a distinct protolith that was ubiquitous in the massif before its exhumation. They were deeply modified by partial melting and melt-rock reactions associated with lithospheric thinning.

El presente trabajo analiza la incidencia que los planes de estudio implantados a mediados de los... more El presente trabajo analiza la incidencia que los planes de estudio implantados a mediados de los años noventa han tenido sobre la edad de finalización de los estudios, para los estudiantes matriculados en la Universidad de Valencia. Su objetivo consiste en analizar hasta qué punto los nuevos planes han facilitado la consecución de las titulaciones, medida esta facilidad en función de la edad de finalización de los estudios: a más facilidad, más jóvenes terminan los estudiantes sus carreras, toda vez que la edad de inicio en las mismas es, sustancialmente, igual que la de los anteriores planes de estudio. El trabajo concluye con el hecho de que la introducción de los nuevos planes de estudio no ha supuesto, para los estudiantes de la Universidad de Valencia, una mayor dificultad para su egresión, sino al contrario, confirma una mayor facilidad en la consecución de la respectiva titulación Palabras clave: tabla demográfica, test de igualdad de medias, tiempo de permanencia.

These natural fractures usually constitute preferential drains or permeability barriers which partially control the movement of fluids during production. The fracturing map of the Calcareous Dorsale in the Northern Rif was established using remote sensing (photointerpretation) and GIS techniques, as well as field measurements of fractures randomly distributed in six microtectonic stations. Firstly, using the above mentioned approaches the main sets of fractures are detected. The dominant direction of fractures corresponds to the NE-SW direction which also coincides with the dominant orientation of the hydrographic network. Thus, the results from these two methodological approaches permit the development of a hypothetical scenario of karst groundwater circulations between the different units of the study area and other nearby units.

Karst groundwater constitutes the main resource for drinking water supply in Chefchaouen region, ... more Karst groundwater constitutes the main resource for drinking water supply in Chefchaouen region, North Morocco. However, the karstic aquifers are highly vulnerable to the pollution because of the deforestation which favors the soil erosion and the landslides. Therefore, the groundwater is loaded with suspended sediment. The fertilizers disseminated for agriculture can also infiltrate and concentrate in the saturated zone of the aquifer. In this study, the geographic information system (GIS) provides an effective tool for groundwater contamination risk assessment, because it facilitates multicriteria analysis and updates the models developed. The EPIK model based on GIS uses four environmental parameters (Epikarst, Protective cover, Infiltration condition and Karst network development) to evaluate the intrinsic vulnerability of groundwater contamination potential. Each of these parameters is presented as a thematic map. After adding all data, the final result provides vulnerability map according to the protection factor relation based on which the protection zones' map is created.

ABSTRACT We report gabbroic dikes in the plagioclase tectonite domains of the Ojén and Ronda mass... more ABSTRACT We report gabbroic dikes in the plagioclase tectonite domains of the Ojén and Ronda massifs (Betic Cordillera, southern Spain), which record crystallization at low-pressure syn-, or slightly postkinematic to the late ductile history of the Betic Peridotite in the westernmost Mediterranean. We present mineral major and trace element compositional data of discordant gabbroic dikes in the Ojén massif and gabbroic patches in the Ronda massif, complemented by the whole rock and electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) data of the Ojén occurrence. In the Ojén massif, gabbro occurs as 1–3 centimeter wide discordant dikes that crosscut the plagioclase tectonite foliation at high angle. These dikes are composed of cm-scale igneous plagioclase and clinopyroxene crystals that show shape preferred orientations subparallel to the lineation of the host peridotite and oblique to the trend of the dike. Intrusion of Ojén gabbro dikes is coherent with the stress field that formed the high temperature, ductile plagioclase tectonite foliation and then attests for a mantle igneous event prior to the intracrustal emplacement of the massif. In the Ronda massif, gabbroic rocks crystallized in subcentimeter wide anastomozing veins, or as interstitial patches in the host dunite. They are mostly composed of plagioclase and clinopyroxene. Plagioclase composition is bytownitic in the Ojén, and andesinic in the Ronda massif. Clinopyroxene in both places shows identical, light Rare-Earth Element (LREE) depleted trace element patterns. The calculated trace element composition of melts in exchange equilibrium with the studied igneous clinopyroxenes reflects LREE-enriched character coupled with negative Eu anomaly, and indicates that gabbro-forming melts in Ronda and Ojén share a common melt source with an island arc tholeiitic affinity. Geothermobarometric data and liquidus mineralogy indicate that gabbro crystallization occurred at shallow depths (0.2-0.5 GPa) in a 7–16 km thick lithospheric section. These data suggest that gabbro-forming melts in the Betic Peridotite record a mantle igneous event at very shallow depths and provide evidence for the hyperextension of the continental lithosphere compatible with extreme backarc basin extension induced by the slab rollback of the Cenozoic subduction system in the westernmost Mediterranean.

L’état marocain a adopté, dès les années soixante, une stratégie de maîtrise et de valorisation de cette précieuse ressource. Cependant, des difficultés dans la gestion de l’eau ont augmenté suite à la pression démographique sur cette ressource, raison pour laquelle les problèmes de pénurie d’eau apparaissent dans plusieurs secteurs de Royaume, surtout ceux qui connaissent des apports pluviométriques très bas. L’objectif prioritaire de cette étude était d’obtenir une meilleure connaissance du fonctionnement hydraulique des aquifères karstiques qui se trouvent au sud-est de la ville de Chefchaouen au nord du Maroc. Dans cette région, les eaux souterraines d’origine karstique jouent un rôle capital dans l’approvisionnement en eau potable et pour l’irrigation.
