First, when the service of CMS is provided campus-wide, the problems of user support, CMS operation and customization of CMS are clarified from past experience. Additionally, various Japanese specific educational practices are reviewed. The candidate CMSs are selected by using proposed methods at Requirements Engineering (RE) research community. Finally, in order to consider possible application of these CMSs, the running environment of different two CMSs are discussed, and the integration of different RDBMS on two CMSs is described.

Recently some universities, including Hosei University, have been offering students opportunities to take distance interactive classes over the Internet from overseas. When such distance lectures are delivered in English to Japanese students, there is a pressing need to provide materials for review after class, such as video content on a CD-ROM or on a Web site. To meet this need, we have developed a new automatic content generation system, which enables the complete archiving of lectures including video/audio content, synchronized presentation materials, and handwritten traces on virtual whiteboards. The content is generated in real time and is immediately available at the end of the class. In addition, this system incorporates a unique video search algorithm which adopts a phonetic-based search technology. This enables quick review of the video content by typed-in keywords. The system can automatically create a vast amount of digital content and provide students with an efficient learning tool.

Examples include: analysis of the electroencephalogram (EEG), electrical response of retinal horizontal cells to light stimuli, the evoked potential (EVP), the electromyogram (EMG) and spontaneous synaptic potentials (SSP). Readers may find the higher-order spectral analysis useful in extracting information underlying various kinds of bioelectric phenomena.

An efficient algorithm combining genetic algorithm with the householder transform has been introduced for selecting terms which contribute to the AIC (Akaike's Information Criteria) value reduction. Computer simulation confirmed that the considerable reduction of the number of necessary Volterra coefficients has been achieved by the proposed method. The method has been also applied to the estimation of transfer characteristics from the instantaneous lung volume to heart rate fluctuations as an illustrative example.

After appropriate pre-processing to remove baseline drift and artifact, data are segmented to 2 minute successive time intervals. For each beat in the segment, singular value decomposition is applied to derive orthogonal characteristic signals. Then two prominent orthogonal signals are used for the TWA search. A pair of alternans indices is defined for each beat as the orthogonal waveform distance between the target beat and the adjacent two beats. When alternans presents, the first index will be larger than the second index. The periodogram of the sequence of alternans indices in each segment yields a useful alternans measure named Alternans Ratio (AR). To show the effectiveness of the measure, the method is applied to 25 control and 24 data from patients with various cardio vascular disorders. AR distribution showed prominent differences among subject groups. It has been demonstrated that the measure AR is not only useful to detect the presence of TWA but the AR distribution can be used for the stratification of the TWA risk.

It has been shown that the estimation accuracy decreases as common noise power and Hurst parameter value increases. However, the accuracy is acceptable even with relatively high common driving force power at 50% and with high Hurst parameter values at 0.95. The relative mean squared error in the impulse response estimation is shown to be 12% in that ill condition. As an illustrative example of the bivariate fluctuation analysis, the change in impulse responses between HRF and SBP due to the water intake has been examined.

Design/methodology/approach-This research entails a neurophysiological experiment combined with a survey-based study. This study analyzes, first, participants' heart rate variability through the parasympathetic and sympathetic indexes during five different activities, and, second, the mediating effect of flow through a structural equation model. Findings-This study contributes to research on the role of flow in interactive marketing. The findings reveal that flow state is associated with less stressful activities, such as navigating highly interactive websites and playing online games. This research confirms the mediating effect of flow between interactivity and purchase intention. Originality/value-This paper contributes to interactive marketing and flow theory by combining traditional methods with a peripheral physiological technique that draws on neuroscience. In addition, it confirms the positive but indirect effect of interactivity on purchase intention in online contexts.
