Study Design: Hospital Based Comparative Study. Setting: Department of Ophthalmology, Khyber Teaching Hospital, Peshawar. Period: June to August 2018. Material & Methods: This study was performed on 70 randomly selected patients divided in two groups (A and B) having 35 patients in each group. Patients with poor levator function (≤5mm), moderate to severe ptosis and good Bell’s phenomenon of either gender having age range of 5-25 years were included in the study. Good functional outcome was considered as achieved when the marginal reflex distance is more than or equal to 1 mm, and was considered as not achieved when the marginal reflex distance is less than 1 mm on physical examination after 3 months of the procedure. Results: In Group A, mean age recorded was 12+6.31 while mean duration of procedure was 52+3.08. In ...

Material and Methods: It was a retrospective cohort study in which 500 eyes with legal blindness were investigated. In all these patients detailed history was taken followed by examination including best corrected visual acuity, tonometry, gonioscopy and perimetry, central corneal thickness and where indicated other investigations like OCT, HRT and MRI were done. Results: The causes of blindness in patients with open angle glaucoma were late presentations (26%), misdiagnosis (13.60%), poor compliance (19.20%), unable to afford medications (8.4%), refusal of surgery (10.60%) and failure of medications (22.40%). Conclusion: Open angle glaucoma is a serious problem which can lead to blindness due to many reasons. Therefore patient must be well educated about the course and progression of disease.

All patients having primary open-angle glaucoma were included. Those having high blood pressure (BP) on admission or history of high blood pressure or using anti-hypertensive drugs, were admitted to the Ophthalmology ward of Khyber Teaching Hospital. Blood Pressure/ Mean Arterial Pressure and Intraocular pressure (IOP) phasing were done and Mean Arterial Pressure, MOPP, and peak IOP were determined. Patients having secondary types of glaucoma, primary angle-closure glaucoma, and those patients who declined consent were excluded. Data was collected on a proforma and analyzed by SPSS-23. Results: A total of 375 patients were diagnosed to have Primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), out of which 200 (65%) patients had impaired blood pressure. The rest of 70 (35%) patients had Normal-Tension Glaucoma (NTG). Out of 200 cases with primary open-angle glaucoma, 175 patients (87.5%) had hypertension, while 25 patients (12.5%) had low blood pressure (normal BP or low BP). Amongst the hypertensive patients, the mean arterial pressure (MAP) was raised in 70 (35%) patients, while the Mean Ocular Perfusion Pressure (MOPP) was raised in 15 patients i.e. 7.5%. Conclusion: Amongst 65% of our patients with primary open-angle glaucoma, 87.5% of patients had high blood pressure, While the rest of 35% had

Mean pre-operative thinnest corneal thickness increased from 281.64 ± 196.86 um to 355.27 ± 19.17 um at 18th months post-operatively (P = 0.001). Pachymetry p-value pre-operative to 18 months (P = 0.001) was statistically significant. Mean anterior SimK at 6 months post-operatively, 60.55 ± 5.56D changed to 61.14 ± 6.23D at 18 months post-operatively (P = 0.000), Kmax at 6 months postoperative 71.60 ± 5.01 D changed to 71.07 ± 5.37 D at 18 months post-operatively (P = 0.008). Both anterior K values at 6 months and 18 months post-operatively showed less significant change, and the same was true for Kmax data at 6 months and 18 months post-operatively. P-values at 6 months to 18 months post-operatively for cornea back data remained (P = 0.001) unchanged. No complications were observed intra-operatively or post-operatively. Bowman layer transplantation is a unique surgical treatment for advanced keratoconus to stabilize progressive ectasia with fewer complications avoiding the need for penetrating or deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty.
