Road traffic accidents are a major community health problem that causes severe injuries with incr... more Road traffic accidents are a major community health problem that causes severe injuries with increasing deaths each yea. Aim of the study: Evaluate the impact of training program for car drivers regarding first aid of road traffic accident at Sohag University. Subjects and Methods: Quasi-experimental research design was used. Sample: Convenient sample of 87 Car drivers were participated in the study. Tools: Two tools were used: Tool (1) A structured interviewing questionnaire used to assess knowledge of car-drivers. Tool (2) an observational checklist was used to observe practices of drivers regarding first aid of road traffic accidents. Results: 86% of drivers had an unsatisfactory knowledge level and all of studied car drivers had unsatisfactory practices of first aid about road traffic accident before implement of the program. However, there was significant improvement in knowledge and practice of the car drivers after implementation of the program. The total of knowledge and practice were statistically significant (p<0.001). Conclusion: The implemented program about first aid of road traffic accident had a good impact on knowledge and practice of. Car-drivers. Recommendations: First aid training program should be compulsory before getting driving licenses. This training should be continuous and repeated before every renewal of the driving license.

Aim: assess of functional constipation criteria among elderly. Research design: descriptive research design was used. Setting: This research was carried out in Assiut geriatric clubs. Sample: A study sample includes 200 elderly people. Tools: four tools have been used: 1 st tool: included three parts: Part (1) socio-demographic data. Part (2) studied elderly medical history. Part (3): includes knowledge about constipation. 2 nd tool: assessment functional constipation in elderly. 3 rd tool includes two parts: Part (1) Assessment of constipation symptoms. Part (2): The standard diary 4 th tool: contains two parts: Part (1): Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly. Part (2): 3-day foodrecall diary. Results: The age of studied elderly mean± SD was 64.67±2.64. It was found that 72.5% of studied elderly had a functional constipation there was statistical significant between functional constipation, sitting, light activity and foods that help prevent constipation. Conclusion: Increase symptoms of functional constipation in elderly with low knowledge level of physical activity, fluids and fibers intake. Recommendations: Health education program for elderly with functional constipation about improve of physical activity and dietary intake.

The data for this study were collected with 400 elderly diabetic patients attending diabetes outpatient clinics of Assiut University and Health Insurance Hospitals. Aim: Assess knowledge and practice of car drivers regarding first aid of road traffic accident. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional research design was used in the study. It was conducted at Sohag University. A 87 Car drivers was participated in this study. Two tools developed by the researcher were used: Tool:the first tool: A structured interviewing questionnaire that include two parts; Part 1: demographic data of car drivers. Part 2: knowledge assessment questionnaire about first aid and road traffic accidents. Second tool: An observational checklist was used to assess practices of drivers regarding first aid of road traffic accidents. Results: The mean age of the participants was 43.36 ± 9.48. 33.3% of them had secondary education. 92.0% of them weren't having previous first aid training. 86% of them had an unsatisfactory knowledge level and all of studied car drivers had unsatisfactory practices of first aid of road traffic accident. Conclusion: The current study concluded that the majority of them had an unsatisfactory knowledge level and total of car drivers had unsatisfactory practices of first aid of road traffic accident Recommendations: Design and implement training programs for car drivers regarding first aid of road traffic accidents.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is an emerging global epidemic disease. Egypt reported the highest incide... more Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is an emerging global epidemic disease. Egypt reported the highest incidence in the world. Aim of the study: To assess knowledge, attitudes and practices of barbers and their customers regarding HCV and HBV. Setting: The study carried out in Assiut District and City. Design: Descriptive research design. Sample: Included 350 participants (175 barbers and 175 customers). Tools of the study: Data collected by three tools; Tool (1): interview form included three parts; first part included demographic data; second part included assessment of medical and surgical history of barbers and customers and third part included assessment of knowledge regarding the HCV&HBV. Tool (2): Included Likert attitude scale. Tool (3): Observational checklist to assess practices of barbers and customers. Results: Majority of barbers and their customers (88.6% and 80.6% respectively) had poor knowledge regarding HCV and HBV. Conclusion: There was a statistical significant difference among customers' knowledge, their level of education and their residence. Moreover there was a significant difference between customers' attitude and their residence. Recommendations: Need for ongoing training and retraining programs for barbers regarding methods of prevention of parentally transmitted hepatitis. Increase public awareness about risk factors and prevention methods of HCV and HBV infection.

Pr... more Background: The health and progress of any society largely depends on the health of its women. Pregnancy changes women's lifestyle and they should at least begin to lead a healthy lifestyle and perform health promoting behaviors during this critical period of reproductive age in order to avoid problems that could harms themselves or their families. Aim: To assess the pregnant women's knowledge and practice about health behaviors during pregnancy at Sohag city. Research design: A descriptive cross-sectional research design was used in the study. Sample: using systematic random sample technique, 354 pregnant women. Setting: from three selected maternal and child health centers at Sohag city. Tools: two tools were used: Tool I: Include three parts: part one: Socio demographic characteristics, Part two: Obstetric history of pregnant women and Part three: Pregnant women's Knowledge about the health behaviors during pregnancy. Tool II: Health practice questionnaire used to assess Pregnant women's reported practice regarding health behaviors during pregnancy. Results: There was positive correlation between knowledge and practice scores with (r= 0.307 and p=0.000*) and there was statistically significant difference between reported practice with occupation education & social class (p<0.05). Conclusion: The studied pregnant women had poor level of knowledge and fair score of reported practice about the health behaviors during pregnancy. Recommendation: Health education program is needed to increase knowledge of pregnant women about healthy behaviors during pregnancy.

Aim of the study: To assess forms and determinants of violence against disabled children Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on (800) disabled children and their care givers in Assiut Governorate. Systematic random sample techniques was used to include all subjects fulfilling the inclusion criteria. A structured interview questionnaire was used which included questions regarding the personal characteristics of children and violence. Tobacco smoking among the young is a health priority in Egypt. This study was conducted to determine smoking prevalence among male students living in Assiut University hostels and their knowledge and perceptions about this habit after Egypt's revolution using descriptive cross-sectional design. 400 students were randomly selected. A self-administrative questionnaire was used to collect socio-demographic data, smoking status, as well as students' knowledge and perceptions concerning tobacco smoking. The mean age of the participants was 20.47 ±1.33 years. More than one third (36.2%) were in theoretical faculties and 63.8% were in practical faculties. 13.2% were current smokers (25.5% daily smokers and 1.7% occasional smokers) and 30.2% started smoking before 15 years. WHO reported that 29% of all females in reproductive age group are diagnosed to have anemia. Study aim: To assess knowledge and attitude about iron deficiency anemia amongst pregnant women. Methodology: A descriptive study was conducted between September 2015 and March 2016 to include 400 pregnant women recruited during routine antenatal care in the antenatal clinic in Assiut University Women Health Hospital. Tool: Personal data, body math index, lab test , knowledge and attitude of women about anemia. Results: This study showed that 91.8% and 80.8% respectively of the studied women were housewives and from rural areas and 32.5% of them had iron deficiency anemia. Back ground: Pesticide use in most developing countries causing serious damages to the ecosystem ... more Back ground: Pesticide use in most developing countries causing serious damages to the ecosystem and human health. Aim of the study: to assess knowledge, attitudes and practices of farmers towards hazards of mis use of pesticides.Subject and Method: A descriptive research design was used. The study was conducted at El-Hammam Village, Abnoub District. A systematic random sample technique was used for selecting the study homes. Data collection took about 4 months. Two tools were used in this study; the first was an interview questionnaire sheet. The second tool was a Likert-type rating scale that was used to assess farmers' attitude towards pesticides. Results: It was found that 31.5 % of the study participants were aged (40->50 years), and the majority of the studied participants (90.2%) were married. In addition, 45.5 % of the study participants were illiterate. Conclusion: More than half of the studied farmers had poor knowledge about pesticides use. The prevalence rate of poisoning cases represent less than fifth. While the most fatalities of cases were found among human. Recommendations: The programs of health education campaigns should be organized and directed for farmers to increase their awareness of pesticides usage, storage, hazards and safety use.

Aim of the study: Evaluate the level of knowledge toward organ donation and transplantation among Assiut University students and assess their opinions about organ donation. Subjects and Method: Descriptive research design was used in this study. The study included (1075) students, were selected randomly from six facilities at Assiut University. through a period extended from February (2013) to the end of April (2013). Data of this study was collected by using self-administered questionnaire. Results: The mean age of students ± SD was (20.02 ± 1.45). Less than two thirds of them were females and live in a rural area. (53.8%) of students from non health faculties. There was a statistically significant difference between students' age, sex, faculty type and grades at college, with their knowledge about organ donation and transplantation. Conclusion: less than two thirds of students had poor knowledge about organ donation and transplantation, and the majority of them had negative opinions about it. Recommendations: Improve students' awareness by conducting ongoing scientific seminars for students and provide brochures on this subject in the university library.

Aim of the study: to assess knowledge and attitudes of nurses regarding elderly patients' Bill of Rights and Code of Ethics at Assiut University Hospital. Subject and methods: 400 nurses participate and descriptive cross-sectional study design was used.. Total coverage technique was used. Data collection started from 1 July-31 December 2013. Tools: an interviewing questionnaire used for data collection, it contained three parts: assess personal data, assess nurses' knowledge toward code of ethics; and elderly patients' rights, assess nursing attitudes toward code of ethics and elderly patients' rights. Results: 33.8% of the studied nurses had experience in nursing work 5-10 years. The studied nurses had satisfactory knowledge toward code of ethics and elderly patients' rights', (65% and59.2%) respectively. Regarding to gender factor; females represent significant high score of knowledge toward code of ethics than males.Conclusion: It was concluded that education level and gender can affect the knowledge level of the nurses. Recommendations: involving the professional values and elderly patients' rights in nursing educational curriculum, and implement an educational program for updating nurses' knowledge .

Conclusion: The current study concluded that the majority of them had an unsatisfactory knowledge level and total of car drivers had unsatisfactory practices of first aid of road traffic accident Recommendations: Design and implement training programs for car drivers regarding first aid of road traffic accidents.

Egypt reported the highest incidence in the world. Aim of the study: To assess knowledge, attitudes and practices of barbers and their customers regarding HCV and HBV. Setting: The study carried out in Assiut District and City. Design: Descriptive research design. Sample: Included 350 participants (175 barbers and 175 customers). Tools of the study: Data collected by three tools; Tool (1): interview form included three parts; first part included demographic data; second part included assessment of medical and surgical history of barbers and customers and third part included assessment of knowledge regarding the HCV&HBV. Tool (2): Included Likert attitude scale. Tool (3): Observational checklist to assess practices of barbers and customers. Results: Majority of barbers and their customers (88.6% and 80.6% respectively) had poor knowledge regarding HCV and HBV. Conclusion: There was a statistical significant difference among customers' knowledge, their level of education and their residence. Moreover there was a significant difference between customers' attitude and their residence. Recommendations: Need for ongoing training and retraining programs for barbers regarding methods of prevention of parentally transmitted hepatitis. Increase public awareness about risk factors and prevention methods of HCV and HBV infection.

Pregnancy changes women's lifestyle and they should at least begin to lead a healthy lifestyle and perform health promoting behaviors during this critical period of reproductive age in order to avoid problems that could harms themselves or their families. Aim: To assess the pregnant women's knowledge and practice about health behaviors during pregnancy at Sohag city. Research design: A descriptive cross-sectional research design was used in the study. Sample: using systematic random sample technique, 354 pregnant women. Setting: from three selected maternal and child health centers at Sohag city. Tools: two tools were used: Tool I: Include three parts: part one: Socio demographic characteristics, Part two: Obstetric history of pregnant women and Part three: Pregnant women's Knowledge about the health behaviors during pregnancy. Tool II: Health practice questionnaire used to assess Pregnant women's reported practice regarding health behaviors during pregnancy. Results: There was positive correlation between knowledge and practice scores with (r= 0.307 and p=0.000*) and there was statistically significant difference between reported practice with occupation education & social class (p<0.05). Conclusion: The studied pregnant women had poor level of knowledge and fair score of reported practice about the health behaviors during pregnancy. Recommendation: Health education program is needed to increase knowledge of pregnant women about healthy behaviors during pregnancy.

Tobacco smoking among the young is a health priority in Egypt. This study was conducted to determine smoking prevalence among male students living in Assiut University hostels and their knowledge and perceptions about this habit after Egypt's revolution using descriptive cross-sectional design. 400 students were randomly selected. A self-administrative questionnaire was used to collect socio-demographic data, smoking status, as well as students' knowledge and perceptions concerning tobacco smoking. The mean age of the participants was 20.47 ±1.33 years. More than one third (36.2%) were in theoretical faculties and 63.8% were in practical faculties. 13.2% were current smokers (25.5% daily smokers and 1.7% occasional smokers) and 30.2% started smoking before 15 years. WHO reported that 29% of all females in reproductive age group are diagnosed to have anemia. Study aim: To assess knowledge and attitude about iron deficiency anemia amongst pregnant women. Methodology: A descriptive study was conducted between September 2015 and March 2016 to include 400 pregnant women recruited during routine antenatal care in the antenatal clinic in Assiut University Women Health Hospital. Tool: Personal data, body math index, lab test , knowledge and attitude of women about anemia. Results: This study showed that 91.8% and 80.8% respectively of the studied women were housewives and from rural areas and 32.5% of them had iron deficiency anemia. Aim of the study: to assess knowledge, attitudes and practices of farmers towards hazards of mis use of pesticides.Subject and Method: A descriptive research design was used. The study was conducted at El-Hammam Village, Abnoub District. A systematic random sample technique was used for selecting the study homes. Data collection took about 4 months. Two tools were used in this study; the first was an interview questionnaire sheet. The second tool was a Likert-type rating scale that was used to assess farmers' attitude towards pesticides. Results: It was found that 31.5 % of the study participants were aged (40->50 years), and the majority of the studied participants (90.2%) were married. In addition, 45.5 % of the study participants were illiterate. Conclusion: More than half of the studied farmers had poor knowledge about pesticides use. The prevalence rate of poisoning cases represent less than fifth. While the most fatalities of cases were found among human. Recommendations: The programs of health education campaigns should be organized and directed for farmers to increase their awareness of pesticides usage, storage, hazards and safety use.

Aim of the study: Evaluate the level of knowledge toward organ donation and transplantation among Assiut University students and assess their opinions about organ donation. Subjects and Method: Descriptive research design was used in this study. The study included (1075) students, were selected randomly from six facilities at Assiut University. through a period extended from February (2013) to the end of April (2013). Data of this study was collected by using self-administered questionnaire. Results: The mean age of students ± SD was (20.02 ± 1.45). Less than two thirds of them were females and live in a rural area. (53.8%) of students from non health faculties. There was a statistically significant difference between students' age, sex, faculty type and grades at college, with their knowledge about organ donation and transplantation. Conclusion: less than two thirds of students had poor knowledge about organ donation and transplantation, and the majority of them had negative opinions about it. Recommendations: Improve students' awareness by conducting ongoing scientific seminars for students and provide brochures on this subject in the university library.

Aim of the study: to assess knowledge and attitudes of nurses regarding elderly patients' Bill of Rights and Code of Ethics at Assiut University Hospital. Subject and methods: 400 nurses participate and descriptive cross-sectional study design was used.. Total coverage technique was used. Data collection started from 1 July-31 December 2013. Tools: an interviewing questionnaire used for data collection, it contained three parts: assess personal data, assess nurses' knowledge toward code of ethics; and elderly patients' rights, assess nursing attitudes toward code of ethics and elderly patients' rights. Results: 33.8% of the studied nurses had experience in nursing work 5-10 years. The studied nurses had satisfactory knowledge toward code of ethics and elderly patients' rights', (65% and59.2%) respectively. Regarding to gender factor; females represent significant high score of knowledge toward code of ethics than males.Conclusion: It was concluded that education level and gender can affect the knowledge level of the nurses. Recommendations: involving the professional values and elderly patients' rights in nursing educational curriculum, and implement an educational program for updating nurses' knowledge .
