The current research aims to identify the variables which help predict the organisational citizen... more The current research aims to identify the variables which help predict the organisational citizenship behaviour of the hospital personnel in the Central region (France). 150 hospital employees (nurses'-aids, nurses, and healthcare personnel) were asked to fill in a questionnaire comprising three scales which evaluated workplace attachment, organisational involvement and the organisational citizenship behaviour. The results reveal that the variables which carry an affective component predict the dimension 'help given to colleagues' of the organisational citizenship behaviour, but not the dimensions 'altruism' and 'civic virtues', the predictors of which are yet to be found.

Introduction The importance of employability is related to the fact that various studies show tha... more Introduction The importance of employability is related to the fact that various studies show that this resource allows people to enter and maintain their employment or to progress in their career. Objective The aim of this study is to analyse the psychometric characteristics of the French version of van Dam's Employability Scale. Method One hundred and ninety French workers and job seekers completed the questionnaire. Confirmatory factor analysis was carried out, and reliability and discriminant validity between employability orientation and employability activities were tested. Results The results confirm two related but independent factors. Conclusion Van Dam's scale offers the professional community an excellent short instrument to measure the two dimensions of employability: employability orientation and employability activities.

Getting in a retirement home is often a violent transition for an elderly person as they have to ... more Getting in a retirement home is often a violent transition for an elderly person as they have to be bereaved of a familiar home to fit in and adapt to a new environment which, too often, has not been chosen by them. This goes with a spatio disappropriation–reappropriation process (Low et Altman, 1992) which may be considered as a sign for adaptation to the premises [Rioux, L., 2004. Les stratégies adaptatives mises en œuvre par les personnes âgées vivant dans leur logement, premiers entretiens de la psychologie, Fédération Française des Psychologues et de Psychologie, Paris, 25 mai 2004]. The research presented in this article is split into three complementary studies: evidence of a double spatial and territorial appropriation process implemented by people getting in a retirement home is brought to the fore, development of a tool which assesses their spatioterritorial adaptation to the new space of living, verification of the relevance of this tool on the applied field. The results are discussed and, even if further research is still needed, they enable us to consider a use by the medical and management staff of this tool assessing the adaptation of the elderly person to their retirement home.

Students who are admitted to university have to get accustomed to and then assimilate the codes o... more Students who are admitted to university have to get accustomed to and then assimilate the codes of their new life, progressively acquiring a new social status and a new identity. There is no tool in Romanian to measure students’ perceived stress. This article presents the results of a series of five studies to validate a scale of Everyday Hassles of Romanian Students. Seven hundred and seventy seven Romanian students enrolled in a university program either in Engineering or the Humanities participated in the studies. The results revealed that the questionnaire of Everyday Hassles of Romanian Students had a six-factor structure. It had acceptable reliability and validity values. With regard to reliability, its scales showed high levels of internal consistency and temporal stability over a time span of three weeks. The results seem equally encouraging in terms of validity. Further investigations, particularly studies of convergence and discrimination, are required to identify more precisely the construct validity of the tool.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether different patterns of workplace attac... more Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether different patterns of workplace attachment exist and to explore the relations between adult attachment styles and the level of workplace attachment. Design/methodology/approach Participants were 351 Italian employees who completed a questionnaire composed of the Workplace Attachment Scale and the Relationship Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using correspondence analysis. Findings The results showed that high scores on workplace attachment correlated significantly with secure attachment style, while low scores correlated with insecure attachment styles. These results shed light on different workplace attachment styles. Research limitations/implications The limitation in this study mostly concern the use of self-reporting instruments to measure the participants’ attachment style, since they may be susceptible to distortions. Notre recherche se propose de reperer l’impact de variables evaluant le confort au travail en les confrontant a des variables organisationnelles dont les liens avec la satisfaction au travail sont actuellement bien connus et d’ordonner les relations entre ces variables dans une sequence quasi-implicative en se basant sur une analyse statistique implicative. Menee aupres de 105 employes du secteur bancaire, elle confirme notre modele theorique en montrant que la satisfaction au travail est implicativement expliquee par les trois autres variables ((Confort/Fonctionnalite => Controle/privacite) => Attachement_au_lieu_de_travail) => satisfaction_au_travail.

Research indicates that people are drawn to green spaces with attractive amenities. This study ex... more Research indicates that people are drawn to green spaces with attractive amenities. This study extends that finding by comparing walking patterns in two neighborhoods with different numbers of parks; parks did not differ in rated attractiveness nor did neighborhoods differ substantially in rated walkability. Adults, aged 32-86 years (n = 90), drew their 3 most recent walking routes on maps of their neighborhood. Analyses showed that participants' round trips were longer by 265.5 meters (.16 mile) in the neighborhood with a single, large, centrally located park (p < .02). However, participants in the neighborhood with multiple, small, more distributed parks, visited more streets, p < .001, more streets with green spaces, p < .038, and used more varied routes, p < .012. “Appropriation” has been studied as a mechanism by which space is transformed into place. The pre... more “Appropriation” has been studied as a mechanism by which space is transformed into place. The present research tested two models of appropriation and place attachment among university students (n = 247), one in their university's neighborhood and the other in Paris as a whole. In both models, the relation between time spent in the setting and attachment to the setting was mediated by students' appropriating behaviors (the mean of three measures: exploration through route variety, exploration via diversity of destinations, and knowledge of landmarks). Results were complicated, with both models revealing combinations of full and partial mediation but both indicating that time alone was not related to attachment. Instead, appropriating behaviors were related to higher attachment. Both models support the idea that appropriation is a mechanism by which attachment develops, thereby encouraging additional research on this important and complex process.

Le bien-être spirituel, une dimension du bien-être subjectif, connaît un regain d’intérêt depuis ... more Le bien-être spirituel, une dimension du bien-être subjectif, connaît un regain d’intérêt depuis une dizaine d’années. Pourtant, il n’existe, à notre connaissance, aucune échelle en langue française permettant de l’évaluer. Notre recherche avait pour but d’adapter et de valider en français l’échelle The Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWBS), de Paloutzian et Ellison (1982). Pour ce faire, 368 étudiants en premier cycle d’études supérieures ont participé à trois études. Les résultats confirment la structure en trois dimensions établies par Scott, Agresti et Fitchett (1998) et justifient ainsi son utilisation auprès d’une population francophone. Cependant, la saturation des items sur chaque dimension est discutée et pourrait témoigner d’une structuration du bien-être spirituel quelque peu différente entre jeunes Nord-Américains et Français.

Le role mediateur de l’attachement au lieu de travail dans la relation entre l’engagement organis... more Le role mediateur de l’attachement au lieu de travail dans la relation entre l’engagement organisationnel et les comportements de citoyennete organisationnelleLes processus en jeu au sein de la relation entre l’engagement organisationnel et les comportements de citoyennete organisationnelle sont tres peu documentes. De plus, les etudes s’interessants aux roles des variables issues de la psychologie environnementales tel que l’attachement au lieu de travail dans l’etude des comportements de citoyennete organisationnelle en sont encore a leur balbutiements. L’objectif de cet article est d’associer ces trois concepts dans une approche causale pour examiner la nature de leurs relations. Une etude empirique a ete realisee sur un echantillon de 118 salaries. Les donnees montrent que l’attachement au lieu de travail predit les comportements d’entraide organisationnelle. Les analyses de regressions nous permettent d’observer le role mediateur de l’attachement au lieu de travail sur les relations entre les engagements affectifs et normatifs et l’entraide organisationnelle. Les consequences theoriques et manageriales des resultats de la presente recherche sont discutees et les principales limites degagees.
