Thirty individuals (16 males, 22.7 ± 2.6 years and 14 female, 22.1 ± 2.1 years), non-athletes, physical education students were instructed to walk on the treadmill with 1% inclination, in self-selected low, moderate and high intensity velocities, during 6 minutes in each velocity. The VO2, measured by the Aerosport Metabolic Analyzer Teem 100, HR and GEE estimated by the monitor, were registered in the last 2 minutes of each load. It was concluded that the best GEE prediction is done with the use of the gait velocity and the individual’s body weight. HR for prediction of GEE should be accompanied...

Research paper thumbnail of Setting distribution analysis in elite-level men's volleyball: an ecological approach

Research, Society and Development

The sample comprised 22 games in the 2018 Men's Volleyball World Championship. The results showed that there was a difference in the distribution while considering the distance between the setter and the striker in position 4 [χ2 (4) = 28.657; p <0.001], the striker in position 6 [χ2 (4) = 23.828; p <0.001], the blocker in position 4 [χ2 (4) = 16.566; p = 0.002] and there was an effect of the attack tempo on the effect of attacks performed by position 6 [χ2 (3) = 15.438; p = 0.001]. From these findings, it is clear that the setter's decision-making is related to the ecological dynamics of the game and to situational constraints, with the availabili...

The volunteers performed an initial evaluation, whose results were organized in accordance to the level of performance and them divided into three similar groups: no goal, 10% and 30% group goal difficulty. Volunteers performed 810 receptions divided in 10 sessions during acquisition phase whose performance was scored from zero to 14 points. On retention test, the 30% of goal difficulty showed higher performance accuracy than 10% or no goal at all.

The 2002 South-American Youth Men's Championship was recorded and the Transition I was analyzed and classified as negative, null or positive. Results of the efficiency in Transition I was calculated using t test for independent samples and compared to the efficiency between teams during each set and matches. Spearman correlation assessed the relationship between efficiency in each set and results of the matches with the final ranking in the championship. The results showed that the winning teams exhibited higher efficiency in Transition I, as well as a positive relationship of higher efficiency in Transition I with all of their results. The higher efficiency in Transition I is related to victory in volleyball matches.

It was concluded that the best GEE prediction is done with the use of the gait velocity and the individual's body weight. HR for prediction of GEE should be accompanied by the gender and rest HR. The perceived exertion scale proposed in this study should be utilized only when it is not possible to register the velocity or the HR. The use of other scales of perceived exertion is encouraged. The HR Polar M71 monitor is a valid instrument for GEE estimation, with the limitation that is necessary that HR exceeds 100 bpm. Its precision is enhanced at high intensity gait.
