El presente artículo se orienta a mostrar los principales resultados de una investigación desarro... more El presente artículo se orienta a mostrar los principales resultados de una investigación desarrollada desde las facultades de ingeniería y de educación, de la Universidad de La Sabana, Chía (Colombia). La investigación está soportada en técnicas cualitativas para el análisis de la información y partió de la elaboración de un estado del arte sobre internacionalización del currículo en educación superior, como respuesta a los retos que impone la globalización en la formación del profesional del siglo XXI. A partir del marco teórico se formularon las principales tendencias en materia de internacionalización desde el enfoque académico-curricular. Finalmente, a través de un ejercicio descriptivo-explicativo se estableció si las propuestas curriculares de los programas de Ingeniería Industrial en Colombia respondían a dichas tendencias.

The 5S methodology is a very appropriate way to initiate and achieve the process of continuous im... more The 5S methodology is a very appropriate way to initiate and achieve the process of continuous improvement. This paper studies management practices in successful Japanese companies in order to determine what 5S principles are behind them. After visiting and conducting interviews at five different plants, a multi-case study analysis was developed to identify the key aspects of the success of the implementation of 5S in Japan. Although each of the companies studied is different, there are commonalities that provide for interesting learning. As a result, best managerial practices based on 5S principles are explained, and the most important principles associated with the success of the 5S method are described and discussed.

Purpose: The article analyses the impact of continuous improvement (system and teams) on business... more Purpose: The article analyses the impact of continuous improvement (system and teams) on business sustainability dimensions (social, environmental, operational and financial) as a competitive strategy to create value for all stakeholders in emerging economy context.Design/methodology/approach: The data collected is from 120 companies of different sizes and 13 different industrial sectors such as food, energy, health, financial services, and logistics in Colombia. The design of multivariate logistic regression is to identify the critical aspects of the continuous improvement practices that significantly affect the dimensions of business sustainability.Findings: The analysis shows that from continuous improvement aspects (system and teams), employee involvement, human talent maintenance, training, and evaluation accompanied by feedback impact business sustainability. Particularly, we present the design basis of a form of efficient management of curricula based on Shewhart’s PDCA Cycle of continuous improvement of processes, providing a coherent set of alternatives that allows not only a design of a solid performance curriculum management but also an organized and systematic way of measuring and improving all its components.

This methodology encourages worker participation in different steps in order to reach consensus in the organization. In addition, the application of LFA improves the capabilities of workers in areas such as participa-tory analysis, problem analysis and objectives analysis. These capabilities are nec-essary in any continuous improvement program. The paper also presents the re-sults of applying LFA in two different companies.

El presente artículo presenta los principales temas que relacionan la globalización con la intern... more El presente artículo presenta los principales temas que relacionan la globalización con la internacionalización de la educación superior y muestra cómo el concepto de competencias, introducido en la educación superior desde la década de los noventa, se convierte en un factor clave para la internacionalización del currículo, pues facilita la comunicación pedagógica, la integración en redes institucionales y, a la vez, respeta y promueve las legítimas diferencias culturales, sociales y epistemológicas a las que responde la educación superior en cada contexto regional o local.
