Studies reviewed were based on 171 plagiarism related publications within a decade (2012–2022). Findings revealed that most plagiarism related articles were published in 2016. Additionally, a majority of the studies (53) were from Nigeria and Ghana (23). Most of the articles focused on students’ and faculty’s awareness of plagiarism, and institutional prevention of plagiarism, but were rather marginal on challenges involved in preventing plagiarism, as well as effects of plagiarism. Dominant forms of plagiarism were self-plagiarism, branded plagiarism and commission plagiarism. However, major causes of plagiarism comprised easy access to digital information and resources; poor supervision of students; pressure on academics to publish for promotion; and insufficient skills development regarding ethical academic writing. The questionnaires were served through purposive random sampling technique at mechanic workshops in the metropolis. This was supported with the use of secondary data from FRSC, journals and unpublished thesis. The analysis of the data revealed that, majority of the respondents do not whether partially or totally make or receive calls, send or read text messages, switch off or use cell phones in traffic. A further analysis showed that, a higher percentage of the respondents had not experienced road traffic accidents and run a stop sign, as a result of using mobile phone while driving. But most of the respondents had experienced slower reaction time to traffic signs and objects and lost control from using mobile phone while driving.

This study investigated the prevalence and psychosocial correlates of cyberbullying among in-school adolescents in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. We explored the 2018 Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ Global School-based Health Survey with a sample size of 1,877 in-school teenagers (aged 11 - 18 years old). Using a binomial logistic regression modelling, statistically estimated Adjusted Odds Ratios (AOR) at a 95% confidence interval were utilised to determine the predictors of cyberbullying. Results showed a 15.7% (10.8% males vs 20.5% females) prevalence of cyberbullying among in-school teenagers. Also, psychosocial correlates like being a female, being physically attacked, being involved in a physical fight, being bullied on a school property, being bullied off a school property, having ever considered suicide, and ever had sex significantly predicted cyberbullying. Further, school-based h...

Injuries are a major global health problem that affects teenagers in many countries. Though several studies have been done in many countries, little is known among adolescents in Mauritius. Therefore, our paper explored the prevalence and correlates of serious injuries among adolescents in Mauritius. Methods. We analysed the 2017 Global School-Based Student Health Survey (GSHS) data from Mauritius, using the Chi-square test and binomial logistic regression analysis with adjusted odds ratio (AOR) at 95% confidence interval (CI). Results. The prevalence of serious injuries among adolescents in Mauritius stood at 39.0%. Also, the predictors of serious injuries included sex (AOR = 0.70, CI = 0.58–0.81), physical attack (AOR = 0.47, CI = 0.39–0.57), being bullied (AOR = 0.48, CI = 0.48–0.70), suicide ideation (AOR = 0.65, CI = 0.49–0.85), hunger (AOR = 0.65, CI = 0.48–0.86), truancy from school (AOR = 0.77, CI = 0.63–0.93), marijuana use (AOR = 0.54, CI = 0.39–0.76), alcoho...

In Africa, Ghana is the second largest gold producer, contributing to about 5.7% of the country’s GDP. The mining sector in Ghana consists of both small-scale and large-scale mining, each of which has varying environmental impacts. This paper provides an exposition on the environmental impacts of mining activities in Ghana. The paper mainly focused on the mining activities in Prestea in the western region of the country. The data collection involved both primary and secondary sources. These included research tools such as review of relevant literature including policies and legal documents, participant observation, in-depth interviews with mining communities and government officials, environmental assessments of various mining sites in the study area. The challenge to these countries was to develop an integrated management system that would bring the needs of local people and the interest of management organisations on board. This paper explored the various approaches and the level of coordination that exist among watershed management institutions in Ghana after the post independence era and suggested best approaches for policy formulation and implementation. Using in-depth interviews and focus group discussions guides, information relating to the developments in the Inchaban Watershed was solicited from 41 key respondents selected from the management and user institutions, chiefs and individual users. The results of the study revealed that the Inchaban watershed management institutions started using haphazardly two approaches to management: bottom-up and sectoral. The management institutions afterwards cooperated poorly in policy formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects making them unsuccessful to achieve their main aim of conserving the Inchaban Watershed. It is therefore recommended that the WRC, NDPC and MWH which are at the top of affairs in watershed management should collaborate effectively, and follow strictly the rules enshrined in either the bottom-up or sectoral approach.

Currently, only 12,000 households out of 250,000 in the catchment have access to pipe water. Groundwater offers the one of the available options to the limited and irregular supply of pipe water. This study aims to find out the extent to which groundwater as alternative source of water for both domestic and irrigation activities is explored in the Thiririka sub-catchment. To achieve this objective, a field survey was conducted using semi-structured questionnaire to seek the extent to which individuals and households use groundwater. The study indicated a very low and adopted use of groundwater in the catchment. Only 36.7% of the various households visited use groundwater for domestic activities and 13.30% for irrigation purposes. It was found out that residents perception on groundwater to be polluted and therefore not safe for domestic activities, lack of cash availability for ind...

The SERVQUAL method comprised five dimensions namely reliability, assurance, tangibility, empathy and responsiveness. These five dimensions comprise 26 attributes. The route purposively chosen was Cape Coast- Accra route on which 162 copies of self-administered questionnaires were served on passengers by systematic sample. The results indicate gaps in two of the five dimensions and 15 attributes were ascertained to have influenced perception of service quality leading to customer dissatisfaction. Recommendations for improvement in service quality resulting in customer satisfaction have been made.
