Climate change, population expansion, water scarcity, soil degradation, and food security are just a few of the world's most pressing issues. Aquaponics, which is a closed-loop system that combines hydroponics and aquaculture, may be able to deal with issues like climate change, population expansion, water scarcity, soil degradation, and food security. Thus, this paper aims to design and construct an aquaponics system that combines fish farming with plant growth. The system used a variety of sensors, including temperature and humidity sensors, ultrasonic sensors, and pH sensors, as well as microcontrollers like Arduino, to monitor and manage the water quality, plant humidity, and other variables. When the sensor identifies any abnormal circumstance, early warnings in the form of SMS and push notifications are immediately given to the user to ensure a healthy growing environment...

Thus, this study aims to investigate how the value, expectancy, and affective components form students' learning motivation during this crisis. This quantitative study was conducted by distributing a Likertscale questionnaire with three main sections: Section A-Value Components (12 items), Section B-Expectancy Components (7 items), and Section C-Affective Components: Test Anxiety (5 items), to students at a public university in Malaysia. The questionnaire was answered by 150 respondents and the data were analysed by using descriptive statistics via IBM SPSS version 28. The findings revealed that the respondents reacted positively in all the three components: Value, Expectancy, and Affective Components. In the Value Components, extrinsic goal orientation received the highest mean scores when compared with intrinsic goal motivation orientation and task value beliefs, while in the Expectancy Components, control beliefs for learning obtaining higher mean scores than students' perception of self-efficacy. Meanwhile, in Affective Component, the findings demonstrate that the respondents were anxious in taking a test or an exam. Pedagogical implications and future research of the study were also discussed in this paper.

It also involves the engagement between the reader and what he or she believes in. Readers find reading difficult because they have difficulties with the vocabulary of the target language used in the reading text. Next, some already have language barriers and understanding is hindered by language related issues such as sentence structure and or culture-related phrases. Readers fear reading because of top-down anxiety, bottom-up anxiety or even the classroom reading instructions. This study is done to investigate readers' perception of reading comprehension difficulties and also readers' fear of reading. Thirty respondents from social sciences faculty in a public university were randomly chosen for this study. The instrument used is a questionnaire. The survey has 3 sections. Section A is about demographic profile; section B is about perceived difficulties in reading comprehension and section C is about reading anxiety. This study has revealed that the difficulties in the reading comprehension were more worrying when it comes to reading. Readers did not blame their lack of vocabulary knowledge for their reading difficulty. They were not very confident when it comes to answering the reading comprehension questions. Learners were anxious when they were given texts they had no background knowledge of. This fear supersedes the other fear for bottom-up reading and classroom reading. Overall findings of the study bear interesting pedagogical implications in the teaching and learning of reading.

However, little is known about the Diploma students' critical reading skills. Thus, this article discusses Diploma engineering students' critical reading self-rated perceptions in English language class. The study employs a quantitative research method based on a descriptive survey design. The research sample is made up of 44 Diploma students from a university in the southern region of Malaysia. Data is collected using a questionnaire distributed online using google form through course teachers. Reliability testing is conducted for each section of the questionnaire prior to collecting data. Findings indicate that the Diploma level engineering students have a limited level of readiness in using critical academic reading skills. It is hoped that the results of this research will help teachers use innovative approaches to foster critical thinking ability among engineering students. Possible pedagogical implications of the findings for language learning and teaching and future potential research areas is also discussed.

Successful writers are capable of using effective writing strategies and transferring these strategies to write academic texts in their content areas. Skills in academic writing are used way beyond the ESL writing classrooms. Students from institutions of higher learning use academic writing to submit assignments. The knowledge (or lack of) academic writing strategies will facilitate (or hinder) their assignment writing. This study looks into the writing process of Diploma Engineering students. Using the Flower and Hayes writing process model (1981)[2] as the basis of study, this quantitative study describes the strategies ESL writers use when they write their written assignments. Results of this study will have useful implications towards the teaching of academic writing in the future.

For that reason, being able to communicate well is essential for the students’ academic and employability purpose. Hence, it is important for every learner to be equipped with good speaking skill. However, it is common for ESL speakers to experience speaking anxiety which hinders them to communicate well. This study, therefore, explores speaking anxiety that occurs during oral presentation through kinesics. Kinesics provides meaningful information to the listener/audience, in which messages are conveyed through the speakers’ gesture, body movement and facial expression. It was found that speaking anxiety was shown by the speaker through kinesics during an oral presentation. Videos of speakers’ presentation were recorded and narrated to obtain the findings. Results of this study provide useful implication towards ESL teaching and learning.

Open and distance learning (ODL) enables lecturers and students to continue learning sessions from the comfort of their own homes with minimal risk of infection. Online collaborative learning (OCL) is gaining popularity in higher education institutions in this regard. However, lecturers must understand how students collaborate with their peers, communicate with their instructors, and engage in collaborative learning projects for online learning to be successful. As a result, it is necessary to better understand student knowledge construction through discourse in group work by examining online group participation. This quantitative study analysed responses to a 36-item questionnaire from 246 respondents enrolled in Malaysian higher education institutions. The findings revealed how idea generating, idea organising, and intellectual convergence in OCL were portrayed in online group engagement. Implications of the study include evidence and information on knowledge construction in the practice of OCL in ODL during Malaysia's Movement Control Order (MCO). Future research in the practice of OCL is also discussed in this study.

Educators were advised to shift from traditional face-to-face classroom meetings to distance learning mode; online or offline platforms. However, the reality is, the majority of the students are still grappling with e- learning, inadequate equipment, and an unconducive environment making the adoption of home-based elearning even harder. There is no evidence on how Diploma engineering students are experiencing this new normal. Having realised the importance of getting first-hand information regarding online distance learning (ODL) experiences, this study investigated Diploma engineering students’ ODL experiences amidst COVID-19. An online survey using Google Forms was utilised to collect data for three weeks from 486 Diploma level students in a university from the so...

The research applied both qualitative and quantitative approaches on 20 Malay postgraduate students of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia: 10 male texters and 10 female texters aged between 24-30 years old. Data collection involved 40 SMSes; 20 text messages from each gender and interviews with four participants. The predetermined categories namely abbreviation, emotion, onomatopoeic and word length were selected to fulfill the aims and scope of the study. Hence, Shafie et al (2011) and Balakrishnan & Batat's (2010) framework of abbreviation, emotion and onomatopoeic, and word length was used. Based on the analysis, it was revealed that there were no gender differences in the use of abbreviations. However, females showed more use of emotions, onomatopoeic and their text messages were longer than males. These findings were confirmed by all the interviewees. The findings also revealed some culture aspects; both the Malay word "lah" and the translation of Malay proverbs into English which are used among Malays in their language were detected.

A total of 328 articles on depression and the perceived social support were selected from 2014 to 2018. Then, 10 articles were selected and analysed based on the scope and the highlighted category. The main focus is to conduct content analysis based on (i) the people who give and receive social support, (ii) ways of giving social support, (iii) the main finding of the articles. The result shows social support from parents is vital to prevent and treat depression. Parents are expected to increase parenting skill and knowledge in developing children positive self-image and empathy towards others. This helps their children to handle stressful life better and serve social support for those in need. The study also found limited discussion on spiritual support in dealing with stress and depression.
