Research paper thumbnail of High incidence of stroke and mortality in pediatric critical care patients with COVID-19 in Peru

Pediatric critical care patients with COVID-19 treated in Peru have higher mortality than those p... more Pediatric critical care patients with COVID-19 treated in Peru have higher mortality than those previously reported from other countries. Pediatric providers have reported a high number of patients without comorbidities presenting with hemorrhagic strokes associated with COVID-19. We present a study analyzing the factors associated with mortality in this setting. METHODS: Prospective case-control study that included patients <17 years old admitted to a pediatric critical care unit with a positive test confirming COVID-19. The primary outcome was mortality. Fisher's exact test and the Mann-Whitney U test were used for the analysis. RESULTS: Forty-seven patients were admitted to critical care. The mortality of our study is 21.3%. The mortality of patients with neurological presentation was 45.5%, which was significantly higher than the mortality of acute COVID-19 (26.7%) and MIS-C (4.8%), p 0.18. Other risk factors for mortality in our cohort were strokes and comorbidities. Only one patient presenting with hemorrhagic stroke had an undiagnosed comorbidity. CONCLUSION: Cerebrovascular events associated with COVID-19 in pediatric patients, including infants, must be recognized as one of the more severe presentations of this infection in pediatric patients.

In addition, involving modeling of robot manipulators and the acquired trajectory, a kinematic control is generated for the robot programming. Experimental results have shown that this method is capable of acquire the trajectory performed by a human without the use of expensive Computational Video Systems (SVC's).

A new Flabelliferan isopod crustacean species of the genus Cirolana, of the family Cirolanidae, is herein described. The datalogger can be used as a portable and stand-alone device, as well as a wireless sensor network node. A flexible architecture, which combines a microcontroller with external local buses (data and address) and a complex programmable logic device (CPLD), has been used. The system has two special characteristics: one of them is the high resolution of A/D converters; the second is based on the incorporation of a non-volatile random-access memory (NVRAM) that allows fast access to stored data and a low consumption. Storing data in an NVRAM implies an extra security level for the maintenance of data even when the batteries of the system have been exhausted. The complete glue logic has been integrated into a Zero-Power CPLD in order to reduce size. In addition, in each specific application, the CPLD allows the implementation through hardware of some interfaces to sensor module, saving computation time.

The aim of the platform is to provide students with a single tool to develop rapid prototypes that covers all aspects involved in the study of digital systems. The platform consists of hardware and software components that allow to easily develop prototypes of general electronic systems, simple systems with a conventional PCI bus interface, hardware accelerators, and buses. The platform is focused on reconfigurable computing practices for university degrees in Electronics Industrial Engineering and Computer Engineering of the new framework of European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
