An important issue, still open in the literature, refers to emerging multinational enterprises (EMNEs) internationalization processes and whether they are dissimilar or not to those of developed countries multinational enterprises-DMNEs. The aim of this analysis is to study the different internationalization patterns and drivers of EMNEs and DMNEs by using the acquisitions and joint ventures from BRICSs to Triad countries and from Triad countries to BRICSs occurred in the industrial machinery industry from 2000 to 2014. Our data shows that DMNEs internationalisation pattern is profoundly different from the EMNEs internationalisation pattern. This is in line with EMNEs need to control critical assets and resources, especially technologies and “knowledge assets”. In fact they acquire firms high technological potentialities. DMNEs balance their transaction between acquisition and joint-ventures, looking at non innovative firms...

Although scholars have shown a growing interest in understanding and analysing the BM, a theoretical conceptualization is still lacking. This paper provides a systematic review of the current state of BM research by mapping the research landscape to identify key research publications, journals that had relevance in developing the BM literature, and the main areas of research. Using the ISI Web of Knowledge “core collection”, this study conducts a document bibliometric analysis of 3,604 publications in the fields of management and business that were published between 1985 and 2017. The use of quantitative methods allowed us to overcome the shortcomings of the past subjective literature reviews. We clustered the selected articles on the basis of two distinct perspectives. First, we identified the founders of the discipline, creating a map of co-cited articles (co-citation analysis); this enabled us to identify five major research clusters, formed on the basis of similar co-citations, that characterize the historical evolution of the BM studies. Second, throughout the bibliographic coupling analysis, which aggregates articles sharing a similar bibliography, we captured the main emergent research sub-fields of the most recent BM literature.

In this paper the main BMs of the new firms, born in Italy after 2,000, are examined. The new firms considered belong to three industries: life-science, engineering and services - Knowledge Intensive Business Service (KIBS). Data were collected through telephonic interviews, selecting a sample of 504 firms (reduced to 495 once we add the financial indicators extracted from AIDA database) within a universe of 2341 newly founded firms located in the North of Italy in the years 2000-2006 (source Cerved-Chamber of Commerce) . The results obtained trough cluster analysis show the emergence of 3 specific business models, strongly connected with the 3 specific sectoral context. In cluster 1 engineering firms dominate, and the specific competitive factors are related to focusing ...

Our empirical research uses the information gathered during direct interviews with managers through a semi-structured questionnaire, which was presented to 382 new Italian firms. Considering the characteristics of new firms, this article summarizes the key growth factors. Investment in acquiring new competencies both in technology and marketing, development of dynamic capabilities (investment in human resources and new routines) and access to external knowledge and information sources emerged as significant.
