Trends in Studies on Educational Robotics in Recent Years: A Content Analysis

The aim in this study was to determine the effectiveness of STEM-based robotic coding education f... more The aim in this study was to determine the effectiveness of STEM-based robotic coding education for primary school students in terms of their decision-making skills. Mixed method research was conducted. Pretestposttest control group designs were used in the quantitative phase, and a case study was performed in the qualitative phase of the research. The study sample consisted of 65 third graders. Pretesting of the experimental and control group students was performed using the decision-making skills scale. STEM-based robotic coding training was given to the experimental group for 6 weeks. Afterwards, the decision-making skills scale was applied as a posttest to both the experimental and control groups. The quantitative data were analyzed with paired and independent samples ttests. A statistically significant increase was observed in the experimental group students' decision-making skills in favor of the posttest. There was no significant difference between the pre-and posttest scores of the control group students. An interview with 15 experimental group students was conducted to collect qualitative data, and the interview results were analyzed using content analysis. The robotic coding education positively affected the students' decision-making and problem-solving skills and their willingness to share ideas.

Qualitative research type was adopted in the study and document analysis method was used.100 articles published in the relevant field were analyzed by the content analysis method within the scope of the study. The trends of the relevant studies in terms of their demographic characteristics, methods, sample characteristics, aims, findings, keywords, and tools used in distance education were analyzed. According to the findings obtained from the study, the majority of the articles consisted of those conducted in Turkey, Indonesia, and the United States. The most frequently used sample type in articles was students, followed by teachers. The majority of the studies conducted at the higher education level were carried out with the participants in the Faculty of Education. Bu amaç doğrultusunda araştırmada nitel araştırma desenlerinden birisi olan durum çalışması deseni benimsenmiştir. Araştırmanın örneklemini mühendislik tasarım uygulamaları dersi alan 7 fen bilimleri öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. The universe of the study comprised of middle school students in a rural area. The sample of the study, in which single group pre-and post-test design was used, consisted of 20 eighth-grade students. The mixed method was preferred. The entrepreneurship scale was used to obtain quantitative data. Semi-structured interview form was used to obtain qualitative data. E-STEM education was given to the students for 8 weeks. Pre-and post-test means of quantitative data were compared by paired-sample t test and content analysis method was used to analyze qualitative data. As a result, the scores of students’ entrepreneurial skills and sub-dimensions of entrepreneurship increased in favor of the post-test, although the overall increase was not significant. Bu kapsamda ilgili tezler demografik, örneklem, araştırma türü, kullanılan değişken, analiz teknikleri ve bulgular açısından incelenmiştir. Tezlerin özellikleri içerik analiz tekniği ile analiz edilmiştir. Kod-kategori, frekans-yüzde değerleri belirlenerek ilgili dağılımlar ortaya çıkarılmıştır.
