This paper presents the results of the research of human resources in logistics and supply chains... more This paper presents the results of the research of human resources in logistics and supply chains. The analysis covered different researches in developed and developing countries. The needs and problems with labor shortage, required logistics competencies and skills, as well as problems and solutions related to employment and retention of the labor are considered in detail. The results of the research conducted by authors in the Serbian market are presented. Also results showed that there is a large fluctuation caused by salaries, inability to progress and lack of vision of the company. The research was carried out on a sample of 314 respondents of mainly highly trained logistics specialists in different positions and in different industries. The results of all researches have shown that there is an evident lack of logistics experts in all positions and in all countries and regions. The situation is similar in the Serbian market.

The reason is the huge savings that can be achieved. In a very dynamic market with environmental changes distribution centers have to realize their activities and processes in an efficient way. Distribution centers connect producers with other participants in the supply chain, including end-users. The main objective of this paper is to develop a DEA model for measuring distribution centers’ efficiency change in time. The paper investigates the impact of input and output variables selection on the resulting efficiency in the context of measuring the change in efficiency over time. The selection of variables on the one hand is a basic step in applying the DEA method. The development of global supply chains, market liberalization, and new business trends have cont... more The development of global supply chains, market liberalization, and new business trends have contributed to creating more competition in the market and increasing demand. Logistics companies strive to generate revenue by providing services of a higher scope and level of quality, while cost minimization is often associated with a system of calculating salaries and employee benefits. The fluctuation of workers is one of the current problems faced by a large number of companies, so the development of a system that will improve conditions and motivate workers is very important. The paper proposes a model for evaluating work performance and calculating bonuses for employees in the warehouse. The model considers the main performance indicators that refer to work engagement in terms of the number of picked items and presence at the workplace. The sensitivity analysis of the model established the convenience and universality of the application.

Public involvement in decision-making, however, suffers from two critical issues: lack of expertise and lack of enthusiasm. This paper aims to overcome the first problem: how to amend passenger preferences related to public transport development with expert knowledge on transport systems. For this purpose, a new research methodology has been created which combines the well proven Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Interpretive Structural Modelling (ISM) methods in a novel way. ISM is used to reveal the non-hierarchical connections of the transport system elements and by this, AHP results are modified with the consideration of element interactions. Many benefits could be achieved by using electric vehicles for storing electricity in their batteries. This paper talks about the idea of electric vehicles as electricity storages in electric power systems. The idea has a great number of supporters, but also a significant part of the professional community believes that is unfeasible. This paper is not classified in either side and strives to give a realistic picture of this idea. For this purpose, findings from papers published in scientific journals are mainly used. There is also some information from websites, mainly for some technical issues. Partly, the opinions of the authors are present. In situation of increasing global trade, concentration of production and economic crisis cause th... more In situation of increasing global trade, concentration of production and economic crisis cause the increasing importance of freight transport and logistics. In that manner, economic performances of a country are very affected by logistics performances. Measuring efficiency of logistics activities on global level is important for all participants in international trade. This paper proposes the new methodology for measuring global logistics efficiency that integrates international and domestic indicators into single measure. The Principal Component Analysis-Data Envelopment Analysis (PCA-DEA) approach is used in this paper. Proposed approach is tested on a numerical example which consists of eight countries. According obtained efficiency scores observed countries are ranked. The paper also identifies the most important factors affecting the global efficiency. Several hypotheses are tested in this paper. The results show that the proposed approach can be used for evaluation of logistics activities at the global level.

Distribution of products is largely conditioned by the efficiency of logistics processes. The eff... more Distribution of products is largely conditioned by the efficiency of logistics processes. The efficient logistics processes provide loyal and satisfied customers, dominant position on the market and revenue. In this paper new approach for measuring and improving efficiency of logistics processes in distribution channel is proposed. Model based on the Principal Component Analysis-Data Envelopment Analysis approach evaluates efficiency of ordering, warehousing, packaging, inventory management and transport processes as well as distribution channel efficiency. Proposed approach also gives information about corrective actions for efficiency improvement. According results efficiency should be improved in several ways: information system improvement, failures decreasing, utilization increasing and output increasing. The results of proposed approach testing show great applicability of developed approach.

Th... more Logistics service quality of freight forwarding companies in Serbia is analyzed in this paper. The measurement process is based on the SERVQUAL model. The factor analysis is used for testing and validation of the SERVQUAL model as well as for appropriateness determination in the observed sample. The survey was conducted on a sample of 126 customers. Interviewed customers are import and export logistics experts. The quality of logistics services is measured by the difference between customers' expectations and perceptions. The results show that quality of logistics service in freight forwarding companies is low.

The importance of efficiency in logistics is recognized in literature and practice. In the efficiency measurement process different problems appear. Complexity and interdependence of logistics activities cause different problems like: indicator selection problem, conflicting goals, common resource problem, decomposition problem, etc. The mentioned problems are present on each measurement level: supply chain efficiency, logistics systems efficiency, logistics subsystem efficiency, logistics activity efficiency, etc. This paper gives the opportunities for overcoming mentioned problems. However, logistic is not only the sphere of rising costs, but the sphere of creating and increasing the value. Through logistic services and activities, in supply chain, added value of products is created. Two out of five primary activities in the value chain belongs to logistics. Logistics value is created through standard logistic services, value-added logistics services and specific logistics solutions. Consumption value, as well as shareholder value, is created in the logistics sphere. However, many companies are not aware of possibilities that logistics can offer regarding creation of value. Reality is that the majority of companies have millions of dollars hidden in their logistic operations. Their discovering would mean improved profitability. Namely, as logistics systems are becoming more sophisticated, energy consumption in these systems grows too. Long term storage of products in warehouses and a wide range of services influence on increased energy consumption of these systems. In situation of increasing energy demands and rising energy costs, conserving energy becomes very important issue. Refrigerated warehouses (RWs) represent a special type of warehouses, which uses about 2.8 times more energy for operating than conventional warehouses. The basic problem associated with energy efficiency in RWs regards to varying in energy consumption due to seasonality of products. Customer loyalty is often recognized as an essential problem in the company operating, that is looking for a sustainable and long-term presence in the target market. This paper analyses quality, satisfaction and loyalty in the context of the logistics services realization. The hypothesis set in this paper relates to positive relationship between the logistics services quality, satisfaction and loyalty. After analyzing the various approaches that can be found in the literature, a conceptual model is developed in order to identify factors that influence customer loyalty. Special emphasis is devoted to the quality attributes of logistics services. On the basis of the proposed model empirical research on the Serbian market is performed.
