The example of the southern Serbian province of Kosovo and Metohija, in the context of the survival of various varieties of political violence, is certainly considered one of the most blatant in the otherwise "too rich" milieu of the Balkans in these types of violence. Starting from the hypothesis that the strong extremism of the area of the southern Serbian province represents a serious obstacle to dialogue, the paper analyses some of the most dominant forms of political violence in Kosovo and Metohija, such as extremism inspired by religious and ethno-nationalist narratives, according to the kno...

Therefore, extremism could be compared with the virus “caught from somewhere” by the mankind. It is mankind’s internal disease mostly caused by dramatic changes in social, political, and cultural areas. However, by itself, processes of unfinished modernization and marginalization are only fit to create ideal assumptions of extremism’s occurrence. Its transformation into separate ideology and political practice is always a work of concrete people and groups. Taking into account the initial principle of security culture that recognition of danger is the key factor in its evasion or elimination, the paper will be dealing with the key...

Information and communications technology has created a new environment, cyberspace, in which tensions, disagreements and incidents are becoming more frequent. In recent years, the mentioned area has increasingly appeared as a domain of conflict between the leading world and regional powers. The paper gives a brief description of the concept of operations in several domains and elements of the new concept of joint warfare of the US Armed Forces. The importance of cyberspace for the US has been pointed out with a review of organizational changes and the adoption of certain strategic and doctrinal documents. The paper presents certain events and activities in cyberspace, in recent years, between the United States on the one hand, and Iran and North Korea on the other. The United States Cyber Command (U...

The main hypothesis of the paper is that the very change in the perception of security, as well as the increasingly diverse manners of endangering it, which are also reflected in the theories of modern wars, impose on state the obligation to expand the concept of strategic deterrence to other spheres of social activities, in addition to the military, which still remains crucially important. In order to better understand the concept of strategic deterrence, the authors try to provide answers to the questions: who should be deterred and what from? In addition to armed aggression, which strategic deterrence is primarily aimed at, the paper indicates that the focus has to also be on all other phenomena and activities that lead to the destabilisation of society, the collapse of institutions, some form of intrastate conf...

This paper focuses on the study of the relationship between strategic culture and the violent change of the highest state authorities. The basic hypothesis is that strategic culture, as a part of political and national culture, is one of the sources of the legitimacy for the use of force in the process of violent power takeover. The paper primarily analyzes the following political factors of strategic culture: (1) historical experience, (2) the political system, (3) the beliefs of elites, and (4) military organization and its influence on the decision for the use of force, as well as the choice of method of violent power takeover. An analysis of political factors through an obvious example of the violent power takeover such as the March 27, 1941 coup, shows the connection between strategic culture and...
