The number of companies that are enlarging their offer portfolio looking forward to new and increased sources of revenues is always increasing but the number of companies failing in successfully implementing servitization strategy is even more. One possible reason behind this is the lack of tools to support companies while dealing with services that by definition are characterized by high level of intangibility and perishability. The Service Engineering (SE) discipline that is currently working for an integrated development of tools and methodologies specifically related to services is still under development and the existing methodologies are more oriented to the manufacturing context. In the SE context Pezzotta et al., in 2014 suggested the SErvice Engineering Methodology (SEEM) for the engineering and the re-engineering of new service or Product-Service System (PSS) helping the companies in balancing their internal performance with the service value perceived by the customer. This paper aims at understanding the industrial applicability of such methodology. It presents a real case study carried out in collaboration with ABB Spa, a leading provider in power and automation technology. In the paper, all the steps performed during the application of the SEEM are described, together with the difficulties encountered. Some insights obtained with the application are also described.

This purpose lays on the development of products through the coordination between information sharing, interactions and knowledge. The research objective is to specify an information system which can support the set of knowledge involved in cooperative design situations with a special focus on conflict management situation. In previous works, a conflict management protocol was proposed and carried out in margin of the design process in which the conflict has appeared. However, several dependencies exist between the conflict management process, the design process and the involved product and organisation data. This paper deals with the notorious problem of workflows integration by proposing mechanisms allowing data integration and control flows during conflict management process.

Starting from the work already undertaken in this domain, we underline the lack of methods and tools of impact analysis. Our contribution is therefore to bring a method with the aim to facilitate the impact analysis in a multi TIS context. This method, based on a product model supported by a constraints resolution tool, will allow resolving the various constraints levered in an impact analysis problem.

A critical element of collaborative design would be conflict resolution. This paper proposes a methodology to support designers during the process of conflict management; focusing mainly on identifying the conflict resolution team and evaluating the selected solution impact issues. The methodology is based on product data dependencies network which is composed of the handled data and the dependency links between them. Qualification concepts are introduced to manage these dependencies. In order to identify this network, a traceability model to track the design process is proposed.

The success of an enterprise often depends on its ability to utilise assets efficiently. This paper explores challenges in managing engineering assets throughout their lifecycle. We examine the role of asset information management in improving the effectiveness with which complex engineering assets are utilised. Furthermore, the importance of quantifying the value of information in asset management ...

Apart from the benefits obtained by the so called "servitization", many companies have also suffered the lack of methodological and systematic tools to deal with the enlargement of their Product-Service Systems (PSS) offering. The few tools nowadays available in the Service Engineering (SE) context have a reduced industrial applicability, and are mainly focused on the satisfaction of customer needs.

Maintenance, which can account for in between 15 - 70% of production costs is a key area of improvement in many industries. 'When the equipment will fail' and 'due to what type of failures' are critical information toward achieving effective and efficient maintenance operations. In this contribution we develop a product-service solution offering to support customers improving their maintenance activities. We identify the technical and organizational enablers and describe a use case example from the power industry.

Collaborative design is a collection of the co-operated efforts undertaken by a team of designers. Due to multi-actors interaction, conflicts can emerge from disagreements between designers about proposed designs. Therefore, a critical element of collaborative design would be conflict resolution. In this paper, a process meta-model based methodology is introduced to support conflict management. This methodology provides identification of the conflict resolution team and evaluation of the impact of a selected solution. The proposed process model allows the design process traceability and the data dependences network management to achieve conflict management.

In this paper, we illustrate an integrated asset maintenance approach using a lab-based demonstrator where a washing machine unit is deployed as the “asset”. The condition of the washing machine is assessed using data from a number of embedded wireless ...

To ensure effective utilization of an asset, one has to make effective decisions regarding the asset lifecycle. Consequently, it becomes imperative to gather useful information about the asset lifecycle. The objective of this paper is then to propose an approach for decision makers to develop an effective asset information management (AIM) strategy. We focus on the management of this set of ...

This will allow identifying the conflict resolution team as well as evaluating the impact of a selected solution. A case study within an industrial partner is described to illustrate this methodology.
