Detection and depth sizing of surface breaking defects in large diameter pipes is of vital import... more Detection and depth sizing of surface breaking defects in large diameter pipes is of vital importance in the petrochemical industry. An analytical forward model is presented and used to simulate ultrasonic phased array data in an inspection geometry close to that experienced by a pipeline inspection gauge. The data has been imaged with Total Focusing Method (TFM) and Plane Wave Imaging (PWI). Image-based depth sizing has been applied using a minimum bounding box around pixels above a threshold intensity. Initial results are presented from a half-skip transverse wave imaging and sizing of crack-like defects of depths between 1 and 6 mm and orientation angles between –25° and 25°. TFM results show good agreement with nominal values in the –10° to 10° angular range for all depths. PWI outputs similar results with less than a sixth of the data.

Also, Grid-Eye sensors are used to detect the presence of the occupant in the home upon which the activation of any appliance depends. As a result, all the electric instruments of the home run automatically when necessary, and the residents do not need to turn on/off of any electric appliances like air conditioner, fan, light, water heater or any other home appliances. Also, if a person wants to make on/off of any utilities, he can easily make it by using android apps or by using a wireless network which is interfaced with the system. In addition to home automation, when any mishap happens in the home, GSM sends SMS to warn people about the accident. If a person wants to know the status of his home utility system, when he or she out of the home, he can also use GSM technology. Proteus simulation software is used to test the effectiveness of the proposed designed system. To control large electric machines like water pump, elevator and generator, PLC module is used. In this case, we also consider different conditions to run large electric machinery automatically. This designed system provides more convenient and flexible control for a smart home or a building. If implemented, the model will be beneficial for the promotion and popularity of smart home automation system.

We outline the quality structure of a large academic pathology department and describe successful projects across multiple divisions made possible by this tightly integrated structure. The physician vice chair for quality organizes departmental quality efforts and provides representation at the hospital level. The department has an independent continuous quality improvement unit and each laboratory of the department has a staff quality improvement representative. Faculty and staff experts have interacted to produce improvements such as accurate container labeling, efficient triage of specimens, and reduction of unnecessary testing. Specialized task forces such as the Courier Task Force are producing concrete recommendations for process improvement. All phases of pathology patient care are represented by faculty and staff who are trained in quality improvement, and each position touches and communicates actively with levels above and below itself. The key to the department's approach has been the daily attention to quality efforts in all of its activities and the close association of faculty and staff to accomplish the goals of greater efficiency, safety, and cost savings.

To collect the information, it is useful to use a blimp, because of its low-sky availability, safety and long flight. A blimp flying at low altitude can capture high quality images offering 3D imagery in disasters. This paper proposes a new path following control method for outdoor blimp robots under windy conditions to collect detailed disaster information. The method consists of path following control in the wind coordinate on the horizontal plane and altitude control on the longitudinal plane. And this method minimizes the lateral errors arising from the wind disturbances considering path regeneration. Some simulations and experiments for a 12m class blimp are performed to confirm the usefulness of the proposed method.

DDMS is one among the syndromes associated with refractory epilepsy. We have come across a case of Dyke-Davidoff-Masson syndrome while investigating a case of refractory epilepsy. When cerebral hemi atrophy is associated with the radiological features of osseous hypertrophy of calvarium, hyper-pneumatisation of sinuses dilatation, DDMS is to be considered.

Nitric Oxide promotes natriuresis and diuresis, and therefore results in reduction of blood pressure. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of L-arginine supplementation on blood pressure, urinary protein, nitrite and nitrate in addition to blood urea, serum creatinine and creatinine clearance in uremic rabbits. This study was carried out in the Department of Biochemistry Basic Medical Sciences Institute, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi. A total of 48 rabbits were included in the study. Twenty-four of the rabbits on surgical intervention were prepared as uremic and so became hypertensive as well. Two groups were uremic, one group was given L-arginine and the other was remained untreated. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure was measured on week 0, week 2, week 4, and week 6, while blood and urine was collected on week 0 a...

Descriptive study. Surgical Unit I, Holy Family Hospital, Rawalpindi, from December 2000 to December 2003. One hundred consecutive patients with thoracic trauma either blunt or penetrating, admitted in the ward were evaluated. Their injuries were classified, treatment strategies outlined and complications and mortality were documented on a specially-designed proforma. Out of the 100 patients presenting in emergency, 44% presented with blunt and 56% with penetrating trauma. Pneumothorax was detected in 39% of the patients, hemopneumothorax in 29%, hemothorax in 12%, flail chest in 9 %. Two had involvement of the heart and major vessels, 4 % had injury to the diaphragm and 5 % had multiple trauma. During treatment, 3% of all the patients were managed conservatively, 83% of patients re...

These cancers are rare at ages younger than 5 years and more rare in male children. In this case report a 4 years old male child presented with right sided upper cervical neck mass for 11 months and treated as a branchial cyst. After histopathological report and further investigation he was finally diagnosed as papillary carcinoma of thyroid with metastatic right sided neck-node.
