The teaching media developed as a prototype converter of ocean wave energy into electrical energy. This Converter is focused on helping students understand concepts and technologies in utilizing ocean wave energy as an alternative energy source. The development stage adopted the ADDIE model, which is limited to the analysis, design, and development stages. The data obtained are in the form of design validation data, trial data, and product assessment data. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Based on the results of data analysis, it is found that (1) the converter design is feasible to be developed with a few additions to the transmission section to produce higher RPM; (2) the resulting converter functions correctly with the output voltage of 5 to 9 volts in the artificial wave pool test and reaches 8 to 12 volts; (3) for product assessment, it was found t...

The research design used was pretest posttest control group design. Both the experimental and control classes are given equal treatment, but the experimental class uses contextual teaching materials that integrate local wisdom while the control class uses conventional teaching materials. The number of students in the experimental class is 25 students while the control class is 30 Students. The data analysis used parametric statistics with a two tailed t test to determine the difference and the N-gain test to find out the improvement of student conceptualization. This paper aims to review the potential of wave energy in several countries, the wave energy conv... more This paper aims to review the potential of wave energy in several countries, the wave energy converter technology that has been developed, and the impact of the installation of wave energy converter technology devices on the environment. In addition, it discusses the theoretical formulations and challenges in the development of energy converter technology in the future. Based on the detail analysis, the potential of ocean wave energy for alternative energy is very large but cannot be used optimally because the technology of wave energy converter that has been developed is still on a prototype scale. In addition, the impact of the use of ocean wave converters on the environment is insignificant compared with conventional energy. Finally, this study informs and recommends the government and the private sector to start investing in the ocean wave energy industry optimally in order to achieve a sustainable future.

Penelitian Tindakan Kelas ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui tingkat keterampilan dan pemahaman konse... more Penelitian Tindakan Kelas ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui tingkat keterampilan dan pemahaman konsep fisika pada pokok bahasan pesawat sederhana dengan menggunakan penerapan strategi Reciprocal Teaching. Subyek dalam penelitian ini siswa kelas VIII-B SMP Negeri 2 Labuapi Tahun Pelajaran 2009/2010 dan obyeknya adalah aktivitas dan hasil belajar siswa. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini dilaksanakan dalam 2 siklus, setiap siklus terdiri dari 4 tahap yaitu: tahap perencanaan, tahap pelaksanaan tindakan, tahap observasi dan evaluasi, serta tahap refleksi. Data aktivitas belajar siswa dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan lembar observasi sedangkan data hasil belajar siswa diperoleh dari pemberian evaluasi disetiap akhir siklus. This study aims to analyze the reflective thinking skills of pre-service physics teachers on the ... more This study aims to analyze the reflective thinking skills of pre-service physics teachers on the subject of ocean climate. Respondents used were 73 pre-service physics teachers who were taking courses in earth and space science at one of the universities in the city of Bandung, Indonesia. Respondents were divided into two classes, namely experiment class 1 which was given worksheets based on prediction using structured argumentation essays (by determining claims, warranties, and backing) while experimental group 2 was given worksheets based on prediction-argumentation using freelance argumentation essays (unstructured). Data measurements were performed with 10 multiple choice questions and 5 reflective thinking essay questions and 4 worksheets. Data analysis was performed by comparing and testing the effects of using a t-test and calculating N-Gain in each class and descriptive data analysis worksheet. Based on the results of data analysis that the experimental class 1 has a much better reflective thinking ability than the experimental class 2. The use of structured worksheets greatly helps students in arguing which has an impact on increasing the reflective thinking abilities of pre-service physics teachers.

This research aims to develop an ocean wave energy converter kit from low-cost materials as a tea... more This research aims to develop an ocean wave energy converter kit from low-cost materials as a teaching tool. The kit is developed using the working principle of a wave energy converter that uses a buoy as a system drive and a weight balancer that is connected to a chain. The dimensions of the kit are 6.7 × 0.3 × 0.4 m (length × width × height) with the ratio of the final wheel used is 1:40. The kit generated electricity when the system was driven by a buoy that utilized vertical wave action. The test kit was carried out in the marine engineering laboratory through three stages each using a wave period of 1 s, 2 s, and 3 s at a wave height of 0.1 m, 0.15 m and 0.20 m. The observed data was the voltage generated by the kit using a digital multimeter. The observed data is the amount of voltage generated by the developed kit, and each observation takes 60 s. Based on observations during the experiment, the kit was functioning properly. The results showed that with a greater wave period, the kit produced smaller voltage, and with a greater wave height, the kit produced greater voltage. We finally found that the voltage generated by the kit was affected by the wave period and wave height.

The data were collected by using the character self-assessment that given to senior high school students in nine provinces spread in the western, central and eastern regions of Indonesia. The instrument was adapted from character education indicators by Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education and the combination of sustainable development learning indicators. The result shows that mostly the character aspects of Indonesian golden generation can be enhanced. ESD character model can develop several characters of students but still need more time to enhance student’s critical attitude and creativity. Besides, it can inferred that implementation of ESD in science education, biology, physics, and chemistry subject can be recommended by using several learning models, of which one of them is ESD character model.

This research aims to know the profile of the critical thinking skills of pre-service physics tea... more This research aims to know the profile of the critical thinking skills of pre-service physics teachers in environmental physics lectures specifically the topic about ocean wave energy and its utilization. The sample used was 29 pre-service teachers 6th semester in a university in West Nusa Tenggara - Indonesia. Data were collected using essay tests, interviews, and observations. The test was developed to measure critical thinking skills based on Tiruneh’s critical thinking framework. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics. From the results of data analysis obtained that the critical, thinking skills of pre-service physics teachers are still relatively low where most of the pre-service physics teachers in all indicators of critical thinking are still at a level below the average. Therefore, learning needs to be developed to equip various skills during the learning process including critical thinking skills.

This research was conducted on first semester students at a university in the city of Semarang. The data obtained in the form of qualitative data in the form of interviews and quantitative data in the form of learning outcomes measured using essay questions. Based on the analysis of data that the use of video tracker in experiments to determine the viscosity coefficient provides the highest increase in comparison compared to experiments using a magnetic sensor and manual observation. In addition, an experiment assisted video tracker provides students with science process skills and was more interesting than assisted experiments with ultrasonic sensors and manual observation.

The research location was in one of the senior high school in a remote area in Bima district. The research subjects were selected by purposive sampling technique on eleventh-grade students with the number of students’ as many as ten peoples. The data were collected by using creative thinking skills test in essay and reasoned multiple choice that conducted before and after learning. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that out of ten students there were two students who had an increase in creative thinking skills in the very creative category and six students who had an increase in creative thinking skills in the creative category. This research was conducted in the physics education study program in one of the Higher Education Institutions in NTB Province, with a total of 25 respondents who had taken the Earth Physics course. The technique used in data collection is the analysis of the physics course syllabus and two essay tests about climate material that integrated with indicators of reflective thinking ability from Dewey's framework. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan yang dilaksanakan melalui tahap perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan refleksi dengan 2 siklus. Subjek penelitian ini adalah MA Putri Nurul Hakim dengan jumlah peserta didik 25 orang. Teknik analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif untuk menggambarkan kemampuan mengajar pendidik dan peningkatan hasil belajar peserta didik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada siklus I kemampuan mengajar pendidik berkategori baik, selain itu diperoleh bahwa secara klasikal ketuntasan hasil belajar peserta didik hanya mencapai 60% dengan nilai rata-rata 69 yang artinya pembelajaran dapat dikatakan belum tuntas karena ketuntasan kurang dari 85%. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini dilaksanakan dalam 2 siklus, setiap siklus terdiri dari 4 tahap yaitu: tahap perencanaan, tahap pelaksanaan tindakan, tahap observasi dan evaluasi, serta tahap refleksi. Data aktivitas belajar siswa dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan lembar observasi sedangkan data hasil belajar siswa diperoleh dari pemberian evaluasi disetiap akhir siklus. Respondents used were 73 pre-service physics teachers who were taking courses in earth and space science at one of the universities in the city of Bandung, Indonesia. Respondents were divided into two classes, namely experiment class 1 which was given worksheets based on prediction using structured argumentation essays (by determining claims, warranties, and backing) while experimental group 2 was given worksheets based on prediction-argumentation using freelance argumentation essays (unstructured). Data measurements were performed with 10 multiple choice questions and 5 reflective thinking essay questions and 4 worksheets. Data analysis was performed by comparing and testing the effects of using a t-test and calculating N-Gain in each class and descriptive data analysis worksheet. Based on the results of data analysis that the experimental class 1 has a much better reflective thinking ability than the experimental class 2. The use of structured worksheets greatly helps students in arguing which has an impact on increasing the reflective thinking abilities of pre-service physics teachers.

This research aims to develop an ocean wave energy converter kit from low-cost materials as a tea... more This research aims to develop an ocean wave energy converter kit from low-cost materials as a teaching tool. The kit is developed using the working principle of a wave energy converter that uses a buoy as a system drive and a weight balancer that is connected to a chain. The dimensions of the kit are 6.7 × 0.3 × 0.4 m (length × width × height) with the ratio of the final wheel used is 1:40. The kit generated electricity when the system was driven by a buoy that utilized vertical wave action. The test kit was carried out in the marine engineering laboratory through three stages each using a wave period of 1 s, 2 s, and 3 s at a wave height of 0.1 m, 0.15 m and 0.20 m. The observed data was the voltage generated by the kit using a digital multimeter. The observed data is the amount of voltage generated by the developed kit, and each observation takes 60 s. Based on observations during the experiment, the kit was functioning properly. The results showed that with a greater wave period, the kit produced smaller voltage, and with a greater wave height, the kit produced greater voltage. We finally found that the voltage generated by the kit was affected by the wave period and wave height.

The data were collected by using the character self-assessment that given to senior high school students in nine provinces spread in the western, central and eastern regions of Indonesia. The instrument was adapted from character education indicators by Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education and the combination of sustainable development learning indicators. The result shows that mostly the character aspects of Indonesian golden generation can be enhanced. ESD character model can develop several characters of students but still need more time to enhance student’s critical attitude and creativity. Besides, it can inferred that implementation of ESD in science education, biology, physics, and chemistry subject can be recommended by using several learning models, of which one of them is ESD character model.

The sample used was 29 pre-service teachers 6th semester in a university in West Nusa Tenggara - Indonesia. Data were collected using essay tests, interviews, and observations. The test was developed to measure critical thinking skills based on Tiruneh’s critical thinking framework. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics. From the results of data analysis obtained that the critical, thinking skills of pre-service physics teachers are still relatively low where most of the pre-service physics teachers in all indicators of critical thinking are still at a level below the average. Therefore, learning needs to be developed to equip various skills during the learning process including critical thinking skills.

This research was conducted on first semester students at a university in the city of Semarang. The data obtained in the form of qualitative data in the form of interviews and quantitative data in the form of learning outcomes measured using essay questions. Based on the analysis of data that the use of video tracker in experiments to determine the viscosity coefficient provides the highest increase in comparison compared to experiments using a magnetic sensor and manual observation. In addition, an experiment assisted video tracker provides students with science process skills and was more interesting than assisted experiments with ultrasonic sensors and manual observation.

Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan yang dilaksanakan melalui tahap perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan refleksi dengan 2 siklus. Subjek penelitian ini adalah MA Putri Nurul Hakim dengan jumlah peserta didik 25 orang. Teknik analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif untuk menggambarkan kemampuan mengajar pendidik dan peningkatan hasil belajar peserta didik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada siklus I kemampuan mengajar pendidik berkategori baik, selain itu diperoleh bahwa secara klasikal ketuntasan hasil belajar peserta didik hanya mencapai 60% dengan nilai rata-rata 69 yang artinya pembelajaran dapat dikatakan belum tuntas karena ketuntasan kurang dari 85%.
