In LIM (Linear Induction Motor), the air gap is very large compared with the RIMs (Rotary Induction Motors). Further, the secondary part normally does not have slotted structure. It is just made of aluminum and steel plates. Therefore, the effective air gap is larger than the physical air gap. High air gap makes a larger leakage inductance. It leads to lower efficiency and lower power factor. DC resistance test will be done to determine the value of Rs. The primary Inductance Ls will be calculated by running the LIM at synchronous speed. The secondary parameters i.e. Llr and Rr′ will be calculated by blocked-mover test. The experiment for no load test is shown and include a DC motor coupled to the LIM under test. Two methods to calculate the secondary parameters are described.

New communication technologies allow us developing useful and more practical medical applications... more New communication technologies allow us developing useful and more practical medical applications, in particular for ambulatory monitoring. NFC communication has the advantages of low powering and low influence range area, what makes this technology suitable for health applications. This work presents an explanation of the design process of planar NFC antennas in a wearable biopatch. The problem of optimizing the communication distance is addressed. Design of a biopatch for continuous temperature monitoring and experimental results obtained wearing this biopatch during daily activities are presented.

The key idea is to compact the electronic design as much as possible in order to install it inside a schuko socket. Moreover, the electronic schuko socket (electronic microdevice+schuko socket) has the feature of communicating with a central unit and with other microdevices over

The numerical model is validated using experimental data of free surface motion and bottom pressure from large-scale laboratory tests. The numerical results compare well with the corresponding measurements. The model is able to reproduce adequately the processes of wave interaction with the permeable structure, in particular partial reflection and energy dissipation by breaking and internal friction. The numerical results are used to further explore the breaking-induced flow conditions at the breakwater. The potentiality of the numerical model for assessment of LCS functional design is outlined.

These processes are found to strongly deviate from their counterparts in flat systems. In curved backgrounds the process of defect formation is deeply affected by the curvature, and at the onset of a phase transition the early density of defects becomes highly inhomogeneous. We observe that even a single growing crystal can produce varying densities of defects depending on its initial position and local orientation with regard to the substrate. This process is completely different from flat space, where grain boundaries are formed due to the impingement of different propagating crystals. Quenching the liquid into the crystal phase leads to the formation of a curved polycrystalline structure, characterized by complex arrays of defects. During annealing, mechanisms of geodesic curvature-driven grain boundary motion and defect annihilation lead to increasing crystal...

Abstract In this letter we present calculations for surface states in high symmetry points Γ, M, ... more Abstract In this letter we present calculations for surface states in high symmetry points Γ, M, X and X' of Jones' zone of GaAs (110), using a step barrier potential. It is found that only four surface states appear in the thermal gap; two in Γ point at 0.38 and 1.2 eV from the top of the valence band considered as origin of energies, one at 0.8 eV in M point and another in X′ point at 0.3 eV. Also, we obtain a low band of surface states between −3 and −5.5 eV.

Abstract Theoretical calculations in good agreement with experimental data of He scattering from ... more Abstract Theoretical calculations in good agreement with experimental data of He scattering from Si(111)(7×7) by Cardillo and Becker are presented. From the analysis, it is concluded that (i) the charge distribution in the surface is disposed in two terraces, each one occupying “half” of the reconstructed (7×7) unit cell and separated by a distance of 3.05 A perpendicular to the surface. The profile of charge on the terraces presents peak to valley oscillations smaller than ∼0.3 A, (ii) there exists a shallow attractive well with a depth D ≅-4.2 meV and we infer two bound states ϵ0≅-3.8 meV and ϵ1≅-0.7 meV. The “consistency” of our analysis with the proposed models for the (7×7) reconstruction is discussed.

However, the processes for developing new markers for phylogenetic analyses remain difficult to navigate for many researchers in plant systematics. We review several experimental approaches and practical considerations for developing new phylogenetic markers with next-generation sequencing technologies. We also outline a flexible framework for data acquisition that is readily adaptable to the needs of individual researchers and carefully consider cost-related issues that may be of concern to many laboratories in evolutionary biology. The next-generation and targeted sequencing approaches presented here offer considerable savings of time and money over the traditional PCR and Sanger sequencing approaches currently used in plant systematic research, particularly in cases involving large numbers of taxa and phylogenetic markers. Even with a limited research budget, next-generation sequence data can accommodate exploration of biological questions in ways that were not previously possible.
