The Queen Has No Tomb A diary, a travelog, a record of the unrecorded as the speaker visits ruins... more The Queen Has No Tomb A diary, a travelog, a record of the unrecorded as the speaker visits ruins in which there is no trace of lost women, only echoes of wars, invasions, "liberations," the names of kings. And a fourth temple, roman or greek, of which only a few columns remain. Excavations have failed to determine to whom this temple was dedicated. Anonymity or erasure? While the names of kings still shine: Ahiram, Melquart.. .those of the queens don't exist. And those of thegoddesses: forgotten. The sea keeps quiet about the secrets of women's bodies, dead or alive, which have no tombs, no burial but the sea, as ifwoman and the sea were enmeshed forever. The body of woman returns to the sea; the body of man, to the earth. The ultimate dispossession.

Two contradictory pulls, an impossible choice, a double imperative. The utopian, turning her back... more Two contradictory pulls, an impossible choice, a double imperative. The utopian, turning her back on society, finds freedom on the margins, escaping the judgement of others. The engagee opens a dialogue with these others. Writing the occasional text on Algeria, she denounces what she sees. Lacking the courage to sustain a utopian existence. Or, risking emergence from behind the barrier erected as a defense against disillusionment. She lives in an era of harsh indifference. Finally, like Diogenes, finds the courage to pursue happiness in her own way. Fleeing from corruption and from those who give way to power. This kind ofcourage is aform ofengagement, the most intransigent. Deux demandes simultanees : de deux sources differentes. Deux textes : un sur l'Utopie, l'autre sur l'Engagement. Deux routes opposees. L'Utopique decide de s'engager dans les deux routes ala fois.

"My writing is not hermetic," she insists. Its "difficulty" emerges from the fact that it translates a process of questioning, experimentation, patience and illumination.

Hecate's Domain May 6 I had sunk my whole life in that island. Island? A mound of bones. Solitude... more Hecate's Domain May 6 I had sunk my whole life in that island. Island? A mound of bones. Solitude, my safety. Island ofserpent to welcome history, but which one? Mine? Yes, but transposed, displaced. By magic, or faith? Where is the witch or serpent lady, myfairy, my Eve who brought me into the world? Let her keep silent about all the love I've given her ... May 15 Worry about my future behaviour after the flame of rage has died down. Dangerous, a flame. Keep quiet and pray, anti-semitism in France as upsetting as the bombing ofLebanon.
