The experiment has been performed at the GSI. The 17 Ne excitation energy prior to decay has been reconstructed by using the invariant-mass method. The preliminary differential and integral Coulomb dissociation cross sections (σ Coul) have been extracted, which provide a photoabsorption (σ photo) and a radiative capture cross section (σ cap). Additionally, important information about the 17 Ne nuclear structure will be obtained. The analysis is in progress.

The dipole E1 strength function is determined in a broad energy range including energies of astrophysical interest. Dependence of the strength function on different parameters of the 17 Ne ground state structure and continuum dynamics is analyzed in a three-body model. The discovered dependence plays an important role for studies of the strength functions for the three-body E1 dissociation and radiative capture. The constraints on the [s 2 ]/[d 2 ] configuration mixing in 17 Ne and on pwave interaction in the 15 O+p channel are imposed based on experimental data for 17 Ne Coulomb dissociation on heavy target.

An unusually large value of the 22 C matter radius, extracted by Tanaka et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. ... more An unusually large value of the 22 C matter radius, extracted by Tanaka et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 104, 062701 (2010)] from measured reaction cross sections, attracted great attention of scientific community. Since that time, several experimental works related to the 22 C nucleus have appeared in the literature. Some of the experimental data, measured with high accuracy, allow us to fix 22 C structure more reliably. Two limiting models reproducing 22 C nuclear structure within the three-body cluster approach, that allow us to describe all existing experimental data, are presented. The 22 C ground state, continuum structure, and geometry are obtained. With fixed 22 C wave function, the prediction for the soft dipole mode in 22 C, which is studied in the process of Coulomb fragmentation, is performed.

Looking for the relation between the data on the Coulomb excitation and the astrophysical 2p-capture rate, one faces problem to extract the Coulomb E1 strength function from the measured Coulex cross section. We use a number of phenomenological approaches to estimate influence of such processes as Coulomb-nuclear interference, populations of states with different J π , etc. We calculate the 17 Ne+2p astrophysical capture rate and compare the results with different calculations.

This angular distribution is shown to include a correlation of the form P_2(cos A), where A is the angle between the neutrino momentum and the axis specifying the orientation of the initial mesic atom. Research paper thumbnail of Cluster models of light nuclei and the method of hyperspherical harmonics: Successes and challenges

Physics of Atomic Nuclei, 2009

ABSTRACT Hyperspherical-harmonics method to investigate the lightest nuclei having three-cluster ... more ABSTRACT Hyperspherical-harmonics method to investigate the lightest nuclei having three-cluster structure is discussed together with recent experiments. Properties of bound states and methods to explore three-body continuum are presented. The challenges created by large neutron excess and halo phenomena are highlighted. Astrophysical aspects of the 7Li + n → 8Li + γ reaction and the solar-boron-neutrinos problem are analyzed. Three-cluster structure of highly excited states in 8Be is shown to be responsible for extreme isospin mixing. Progress in studies of 6He- and 11Li-induced inclusive and exclusive nuclear reactions is demonstrated, providing information on the nature of continuum structures of Borromean nuclei.
