The achievements in sciences, especially in the field of ornithology, that Rudolf, archduke and h... more The achievements in sciences, especially in the field of ornithology, that Rudolf, archduke and heir to the throne of Austria - Hungary produced haven't been examined in the slightest. This work contributes to the scientific work of the crown-prince and illuminates especially his correspondence with the zoologist Alfred E. Brehm with whom he shared a deep friendship. This passion for ontology occupied him even just before his death when he undertook some ontological observations. My aim will be to point out the thirst of knowledge and the engagement of the crown-prince for sience on the basis of articles, letters and notes and to illuminate this fascinating personality of the Austrian History under different aspects.
