One of them is readability, which has received little academic and research interest in Russian linguistics. Following Coh-Metrix, syntax characteristics are among its elements. We compiled a corpus of texts for reading of Unified State Exam, an official tool for assessing graduates for entering Universities. The test is reliable and valid for its purposes, but it is important to study the quality of the input texts by the reference to the stated CEFR A2+, B1 and B2 levels. Conducting the research on syntactic simplicity, the paper studies the distinctive features showing the discrimination factors defining their CEFR level in order to increase the transparency of tools for choosing the texts for better task taking procedures.

The texts of the Corpus were retrieved from the site with sample USE exam tasks Neznaika (https://neznaika.pro/ege/english/). The choice of this particular site was caused by a number of reasons: the fact that the school teachers of English recommend this site to their pupils for preparation to the USE; 30 variants of the tasks; the availability of the tasks on the Internet. The total size of the corpus comprises 17701 tokens. The present study investigates two research questions: What is the average number of words (length) of sentences in USE Reading texts? RQ2: What is the mean number of clauses in sentences of USE Reading texts? With the help of Microsoft Office Word, we determined the average length of USE sentences-19 tokens. The mean number of clauses per text can be deduced to 65, the mean number of clauses per sentence is 2. The total number of clauses in each text was counted non-automatically.The results of this research provide us with insights into the general syntactic characteristics of the USE texts..

It has become the tradition in Russian linguistics as well as foreign one to assess predominantly the complexity of educational texts, thus allowing the learners to boost text comprehension and better material recognition [1], [2], [3], [4]. Text complexity studies can be directed at other types of texts (fiction or newspaper articles) in order to raise the level of awareness and desire to read in general. Bearing in mind that newspaper articles in English can be written by native and non-native speakers, and both types of newspapers can be used in educational purposes, there is urgent need, as we perceive it, to distinguish the features of authentic and Russian English newspaper texts. The research question of upcoming studies can be accomplished as follows: Are English-language newspapers written by Russian speakers of English as ELF comp...

This method provides consistent analysis, which results in assessment criteria and study assignments in a short period of time. The aim of the study is to analyze the functional features and effectiveness of this method. As a result of the study the authors developed such evaluation criteria that can evaluate the specific features of such genre as an essay. That effects stylistic and functional characteristics that differ the essay from an article. The advantages and disadvantages of the peer review method were identified, among which, among other things, it was noted that peer review helps to engage students in the educational process and develops critical thinking in them. It analyzed the list of linguo-didactic functions of thi...
