Teacher preparation programme is based on the requirement of the student- teachers to enable them to deal effectively the demands of the individual learning needs of the learners in and out of the school/classroom. The effectiveness of teachers in the classroom is ensured when they have the requisite skills, the right environment and the motivation to guarantee that every child learns. The purpose of this paper is to focus on the ongoing modern trend in the B.Ed. curriculum incorporating certain papers like ICT Education and Yoga Education including an activity known as Project Work included in method subjects. Cases cited, reveal new papers are introduced in the teacher education programme to equip both the in-service and pre-service teachers to keep abreast of the modern trends and need of the education system. The process of implementing and deriving a positive output either from the students or teachers gets affected due to the system prevailing in the educational institution. Schools introduce new subjects of study in no time is true but, in doing so, there are instances of lack of seriousness during the implementation stage due to certain unavoidable circumstances faced by students and teachers. The potentialities of introducing new papers or topics either for the teacher education programme or at the school level are indeed extensive.

The switch over to one year course to two year B.Ed. course is quite interesting and challenging task. Any teacher education course seeks to train teacher having requisite teaching skills. Practicum approach adopted in the modern teacher education course is to place a student teacher in a classroom situation under the supervision of a qualified teacher. The concept of Internship introduced in the two year B.Ed. course throughout the country is quite challenging one for all the teacher education institutions. The aim of internship program is to incorporate teaching skills among the student teachers. Internship program is an effective way to give training to the student-teachers about real world of work. It give them an opportunity to integrate theory and practice, plan and deliver lessons properly, critically analyze their own and peers teaching styles and improve them in the light of feedback given by supervisors. Through this program they understand the role and responsibilities of professional teachers. Internship program also give them opportunity to understand different aspects of school program and improve their skills and abilities in teaching profession. An effective and improved internship program is required in developing student-teachers personalities as true professionals in field of education.

The KVs have covered a large area of the education system to provide quality education to the children belonging to different social backgrounds and family. KVs are the model schools established under the Central Govt. after attaining independence of India. Setting up of KVs is a matter of pride for that particular locality or district all over India. The best syllabus and curriculum is followed by this sangathan. Every opportunity is offered to students for their all round development. Recruitment of well trained teachers has been the special focus of this sangathan. The teachers take great pain in moulding the behaviour of the students coming from different socioeconomic backgrounds. Action based learning is found in all the classes in this type of school. A case study (on KV IIT Guwahati) conducted with an aim to offer an overall knowledge about the sangathan in general and the school under consideration in particular. A detail analysis of a particular school has enabled to assess the norms and procedures of such type of school. Such schools are spread in all the states and union territories of India which helps in binding together and it acts as an agent of national integration. Along with this, the 'Hindi' language is promoted which is our national language. Also, it is a matter of pride now if an individual is recruited as a teacher either at primary, secondary or higher secondary level. The quality of teaching is quite advanced and as such the students are also highly benefitted. Regular change in curriculum at a certain interval is quite appreciating and it becomes effective throughout India spontaneously. Another important feature which this study could perceive is that through these schools there is uniformity either in terms of uniform, rules and regulations, syllabus all over the country. A student passed out from such school obtains equal recognition and status in any part of the nation. Also, there is an opportunity of transferring a student from such school anywhere and everywhere at any point of time within the country as because there is a network of these schools. This opportunity is specially required for defence personnel or central government employees because of their transferable jobs.

This is unique to a culture or society. Education is a discourse between the past, present and the future. It is a means to empower the individuals coupled with developing the culture and heritage of our country. In India indigenous people are recognised as Scheduled Tribes/Adivasis. Each and every tribe have their own distinct culture, tradition, customs, festivals, values, norms etc. An attempt is made to study the indigenous education system existed in the North Eastern States (NES) of India. Indigenous system of education prevailed in hill areas in the form of a variety of dormitories existed in the NES of India. It may be stated that the purpose to offer indigenous education to young man was to train the individual and provide safety to the village which were the basic factors for setting up of the dormitory, functioning as the foundation of social institution. The tribal people have traditionally acquired their knowledge through direct experience in the natural environment. Each of the dormitories had their own features, curriculum and practices. The purpose of primitive education used to guide children for becoming good individuals of their tribe. Emphasis was mainly put on training for citizenship. Certain things were practiced commonly within cultures like local folk songs, folk tales, dance, festivals, bamboo and cane craft and weaving. This is undoubtedly valuable knowledge about ways of living sustainably. Indigenous knowledge is integrated into present day education so as to bring the benefits help to ‘sustain’ indigenous knowledge and societies for all. It also encourages teachers and students to gain enhanced respect for local culture, its wisdom and its ethics, and provides ways of teaching and learning locally relevant knowledge and skills.

Pre-service education is only the foremost step in the continuous growth of a teacher in his profession. A teacher has to keep informed with latest developments in order to solve the problems faced. There is a continuous need for exploring new things and satisfy the inquisitive mind which will surely raise the standard of the whole educational system. In our practical field of work we come across innumerable problems which lead to stress in our work life. On identifying the problem the inquisitive mind calls for solution. On the spot or immediate solution of a problem is possible through action research. While conducting an action research, one should remember the mobility of the profession and with full sincerity one should conduct the research work. This will help in building confidence among the teacher and assist in growing professionalism. Any research work is fruitful only when there is honesty, originality, novelty and scholastic qualities of the teacher. Mathematics is about pattern and structure; it is about logical analysis, deduction, calculation within these pattern and structure. It is an expression of the human mind which reflects the active will, the contemplative will, reason and the desire for aesthetic perfection. Its basic elements are logic and intuition, analysis and construction, geometry and individuality. The study explores the pedagogical process followed for the subject mathematics in the secondary schools of Nagaland. Sample size of the teachers and students happened to be 120 and 560 respectively. The study revealed that aims or objectives of teaching Mathematics are generally ignored by the teachers. Various concepts and terms are not clearly explained. With respect to the Mathematics Curriculum it is found that there exists a significant difference on the opinion of teachers with B.Ed. and teachers without B.Ed. in the Private schools which is just the opposite in case of Government secondary schools. It is found that the teacher starts a lesson with abstractions without any concrete base. Government secondary schools have three times more B.Ed. qualified teachers compared to Private secondary schools and interest towards the subject Mathematics between student and teacher in Government secondary schools is found to be less than Private secondary schools. Majority of the teachers with B.Ed. and without B.Ed., was of the opinion that the reasons that affect the learning of students in mathematics is the absence of employment of various teaching strategies by teachers and the absence of employment of learning styles and strategies by the pupils. Most of the students face in learning Mathematics is “how to get started” and unable to justify each steps with a proof, leaving weak links. Also, most of them try to memorize proofs without understanding. Most of the teachers usually use the same teaching method for all types of students without taking into account the individual differences. The learning outcome is purely dependent on teaching-learning styles and strategies. In this study the attitude of Boys is found to be better than that of Girls towards the subject Mathematics.
