The experiment consisted of six treatments with four replications and it was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design. The treatments were: T1-Control, T2-RDF (NPK @ 75:50:25 kg NPK/ha), T3-50 % RDF + Azotobacter (5%) + PSB (5 %), T4-75 % RDF + Azotobacter (5%) + PSB (5 %), T5-100 % RDF + Azotobacter (5%) + PSB (5 %), T6-Azotobacter (5%) + PSB (5 %). T5 being the best treatment recorded maximum plant height (74.07 cm), leaf width (3.11 cm), plant dry weight (15.88 g), leaf length (6.17 cm) and yield (163.25 q/ha). However, in terms of yield T5 was found to be significant with T4 (130.5 q/ha). That shows the ability of biofertilizers in increasing the yield and nutrient use efficiency of amaranth.

Prebiotics, natural or synthetic can enhance the growth and activities of probiotics, and gut mic... more Prebiotics, natural or synthetic can enhance the growth and activities of probiotics, and gut microflora, which are beneficial to the health and well being of humans and animals. They are polysaccharides that are capable of surviving acidic and enzymatic digestion in the small intestine, and can be fermented by probiotics in the large intestine to produce short-chain fatty acids, vitamins, and other compounds, which can normalize bowel movement, increase immunity against diseases, prevent cancer, improve mineral absorption, and lower cholesterol. Examples of prebiotics are inulin, oiigofructose galacooligosaccharides, and lactulose. Thai plants, e.g., palm fruit, jackfruit, young coconut, rambutan, jampadah, and okra contain significant amounts of polysaccharides possessing prebiotic properties. Prebiotics may be incorporated as nutritional ingredients into various functional foods, or presented as nutraceuticals in the form of tablets or capsules, sometimes with probiotic cultures,...

Studies were carried out to collect, identify and document its ethnobotanical as well as other medicinal and economic uses. During the study period (2018-2019), seasonal field visits were carried out and a total of 43 ferns and fernallies of different families were documented. The dominant families present were Pteridaceae, Polypodiaceae and Aspleniaceae. The study revealed different uses of ferns and fern-allies as food, fodder, in treatment of various diseases and as ornamental plants. This study may further help students and researchers of plant conservation, biodiversity, ethnobotany, pharmacology, etc.

Uniform healthy suckers were planted at a spacing of 30 cm×20 cm in randomized block design with three replications. Significant differences were obtained among the genotypes for all morphological and floral characters studied. Genotype Saifali recorded maximum (149.71 cm) plant height, followed by Terry (132.92 cm) but plant spread was maximum in genotype Paris White (45.04 cm), followed by Suneel (44.50 cm), however it was minimum in Saifali (25.96 cm). Genotype Paris White produced maximum number of primary (15.16) and secondary branches (19.16)/plant while minimum, i e 4.41 and 8.16 was recorded in genotype Saifali, respectively. Earliest bud burst (9.33 days) was observed in genotype Red Queen, whereas genotype Charming was late (30.00 days). The highest number of flowers/branch (10.43) was produced by genotype White Anemone followed by Gauri (9.08) and Appu (7.66), but number of flowers/plant was higher (301.00) in Paris White and minimum (66.33) was recorded with genotype Suneel. Extended period of vase life was recorded in Gauri (24.66 days), followed by Shanti (22.00 days), while it was low with Red Queen (5.33 days). Keeping these characters in view, genotypes White Anemone, Shanti and Charming were found to be highly suitable to grow under these conditions for cut and loose flowers.

The genetic variability and heritability in 21 genotypes of marigold confirmed that there is a colossal difference between the genotypes for yield and other 17 traits. The number of ray florets/ flower showed high heritability (99.95) together with high genetic advance (255.77) followed by fresh weight of flower and yield per plant. The study revealed that the PCV is more in comparison with GCV for all the traits which indicates, the contribution of the environment in the expression of traits. Correlation analysis between yield and yield attributing traits in marigold genotypes revealed high positive correlation of flower yield per plant at both phenotypic and genotypic levels with traits like plant height...

International Journal of Chemical Studies, 2019

Standardization of a suitable potting media for vegetative and flowering characteristics of Calla... more Standardization of a suitable potting media for vegetative and flowering characteristics of Calla lily (Zantedeschia sprengeri) was studied in College of Horticulture, VCSG UUHF, Bharsar on 13 different growing media which comprised of different combinations of garden soil, cocopeat and perlite. The experiment was conducted for two successive growing seasons i.e. March 2016 to July 2017 and was laid out in completely randomized block design. Suitable potting media was identified by measuring changes in vegetative and floral characteristics such as plant height, plant spread, stalk length, stalk diameter of flower, number of flowers per plant and per pot etc. In the present study it was found that by the use of coco peat alone it exhibited maximum plant spread (22.51cm), number of leaves per plant (9.20) and leaf area (247.97 cm 2). Earliest first flower bud initiation (30.97 days) and first flower bud opening (8.68 days) was recorded by the use of garden soil + perlite (1:2). Maximum stalk length of flower (54.21 cm), stalk diameter of flower (1.09 cm), spathe length (11.08 cm), spathe diameter (7.77 cm) and weight of fresh flower (35.45 g) was recorded when garden soil + perlite (1:1) was used as a growing media. Thus it can be concluded that growing media combination of garden soil + cocopeat (1:2) i.e. T8 can effectively be used for improving the overall quality attributes of flower for its use as a cut flower or as a pot plant.

Naranja. The harvested flowers were immediately precooled and then pulsed with a solution of Sucrose 5% + 200 ppm 8HQC for 24 hrs, the cut blooms were then wrapped separately in different wrapping materials, and under different storage durations various keeping quality parameters were studied. Data regarding all the parameters were collected by using standard procedures. Among different wrapping materials, LDPE (100 gauge) and LDPE (200μ) proved to be promising in augmenting the keeping quality of cut rose. Keeping quality of unpackaged cut stems deteriorated and decreased with increase in storage duration from 0 days to 12 days.

Ness.), a member of the family Asteraceae, is one of the important commercial flower crops of our country. Among annual flower crops, it ranks next to chrysanthemum and marigold. The flowers assumed economic importance on account of their varied uses such as cut flowers for vase decorations, bouquets making, buttonholes, loose flowers for making garlands and religious functions. In garden, plants are used as bedding plants, making mixed herbaceous border and as a pot plants. Among the various factors affecting growth and development of plants nutrient management play a vital role. Therefore, attention is needed to apply adequate quality of nutrients through proper nutrient sources.

Naranja an experiment was conducted in the laboratory of Department of Horticulture, GBPUAT, Pantnagar. The experiment was arranged in factorial completely randomized block design with different concentrations of antitranspirants ( Glycerol, MgCO3, Paclobutrazol ) as one factor and storage durations (0, 3, 6, 9 days ) as other. The results significantly revealed that foliar application of 8% glycerol increased the vase life to about 3 times as compared to control. Also this was accompanied by minimum water uptake and water loss and appearance was improved by the application of it. Stomata opening which serve as portals for both loss of water vapour and for the intake of CO2, was also decreased by the application of 8% glycerol and this is correlated with minimum transpiration rate recorded in those flowers.
