This study investigated the associations of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of VDR with the outcomes of Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Three SNPs (rs2228570, rs757343 and rs739837) were genotyped by TaqMan assay among Chinese population, including 538 HCV spontaneous clearance subjects, 834 persistent infection subjects and 1030 uninfected subjects. Binary logistic analyses were used to control the effects of confounding factors. The results showed that subjects with the rs757343 A allele and rs739837 A allele had the significantly reduced risk of HCV susceptibility (all PBonferroni<0.05 in dominant/additive model). In the stratified analysis, the protection of rs757343 A allele and rs739837 A allele against HCV infection remained effective in some subgroups. In addition, patients carrying rs739837 CA genotype were less prone to develop persistent infectio...

Four-dimensional per- formance capture is used to capture realistic human motion and ap- pearance. The captured data is processed into efficient and com- pact representations for geometry and texture. Motions are anal- ysed against a high-level, user-defined motion graph and suitable inter- and intra-motion transitions are identified. This processed data is stored on a webserver and downloaded by a client applica- tion when required. A Javascript-based character animation engine is used to manage the state of the character which responds to user input and sends required frames to a WebGL-based renderer for display. Through the efficient geometry, texture and motion graph representations, a game character capable of performing a range of motions can be represented in 40-50 MB of data. Research paper thumbnail of Hybrid Skeletal-Surface Motion Graphs for Character Animation from 4D Performance Capture

ACM Transactions on Graphics, 2015

ABSTRACT We present a novel hybrid representation for character animation from 4D Performance Cap... more ABSTRACT We present a novel hybrid representation for character animation from 4D Performance Capture (4DPC) data which combines skeletal control with surface motion graphs. 4DPC data are temporally aligned 3D mesh sequence reconstructions of the dynamic surface shape and associated appearance from multiple-view video. The hybrid representation supports the production of novel surface sequences which satisfy constraints from user-specified key-frames or a target skeletal motion. Motion graph path optimisation concatenates fragments of 4DPC data to satisfy the constraints while maintaining plausible surface motion at transitions between sequences. Space-time editing of the mesh sequence using a learned part-based Laplacian surface deformation model is performed to match the target skeletal motion and transition between sequences. The approach is quantitatively evaluated for three 4DPC datasets with a variety of clothing styles. Results for key-frame animation demonstrate production of novel sequences that satisfy constraints on timing and position of less than 1% of the sequence duration and path length. Evaluation of motion-capture-driven animation over a corpus of 130 sequences shows that the synthesised motion accurately matches the target skeletal motion. The combination of skeletal control with the surface motion graph extends the range and style of motion which can be produced while maintaining the natural dynamics of shape and appearance from the captured performance.

A total of 148931 individuals were investigated by multistage random sampling in Eastern China. Data were collected on demographics and hepatitis B vaccination history, and serum was tested for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) by ELISA. A total of 11469 participants (7.70%, 95%CI: 7.57%-7.84%) were positive for HBsAg. HBsAg prevalence was 0.77% among children < 5 years old but increased progressively from adolescents (1.40%-2.55%) to adults (5.69%-11.22%). A decrease in HBsAg prevalence was strongly associated with vaccination and familial history of HBV among both children and adult groups. Meanwhile, HBsAg risk in adults was associated with invasive testing and sharing needles. The HBV immunization rate among participants aged < 20 years was 93.30% (95%CI: 93.01%-93.58%). Significant difference in HBsAg prevalence appeared between vaccinated and unvaccinated participants (3.59% vs 10.22%...

We investigated a combination therapy of YM155 and interleukin-2 (IL-2) in a mouse model of renal cell carcinoma (RCC). YM155 caused cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in renal cancer (RENCA) cells. Next, luciferase-expressing RENCA cells were implanted in the left kidney and the lung of BALB/c mice to develop RCC metastatic model. In this orthotopic renal and metastatic lung tumors models, YM155 and IL-2 additively decreased tumor weight, lung metastasis, and luciferin-stained tumor images. MicroRNAs (miRNA) have been shown to contribute to tumorigenic progression. However, the nature of miRNAs involved in K-Ras transformation remains to be investigated. Here, by using microarray we identified miR-155 as the most upregulated miRNA after both acute and prolonged activation of K-Ras in a doxycyline-inducible system. Pharmacological inhibition of MAPK and NF-κB pathway blocked the induction of miR-155 in response to K-Ras activation. Overexpression of miR-155 caused inhibition of Foxo3a, leading to decrease of major antioxidants including SOD2 and catalase, and enhanced pancreatic cell proliferation induced by ROS generation. Importantly, correlations of K-Ras, miR-155 and Foxo3a were also validated in human pancreatic cancer tissues. Therefore, we propose that miR-155 plays an important role in oncogenic K-Ras transformation mediated by cellular redox ...
