This report offers an English summary of the Landbouw-Economisch Bericht 2009. It presents a survey of the economic state of Dutch agribusiness. First, attention is paid to general economic and political developments and to the development of the agricultural complex. Next, the report deals with the rural area and with environmental issues. Following a description of the production structure and production factors in agriculture, profitability and income formation in the agricultural sector and sub sectors are analysed.

This summary of the Landbouw-Economisch Bericht 2011 offers a global survey of the economic and f... more This summary of the Landbouw-Economisch Bericht 2011 offers a global survey of the economic and financial state of Dutch agriculture and horticulture. In it, the changing economic and political circumstances affecting the sector are explicitly taken into account. The outline of the publication is similar to previous years. The complete report, which is available only in Dutch, is based on data and contributions from the various research fields of the institute. The report has been coordinated and edited by the International Policy research field. The final draft of the 2011 Dutch edition of the report was completed in May 2011. The Hague, July 2011 The Director, Prof. dr. ir. R.B.M. Huirne and the natural environment. By means of independent research, LEI offers its customers a solid basis for socially and strategically justifiable policy choices. LEI is part of Wageningen UR (University and Research centre), forming the Social Sciences Group with the department of Social Sciences and Wageningen UR Centre for Development innovation.

De zuivelsector is een belangrijk onderdeel van de Nederlandse agribusiness. In het kader van Age... more De zuivelsector is een belangrijk onderdeel van de Nederlandse agribusiness. In het kader van Agenda 2000 zijn voor het EU-zuivelbeleid hervormingen afgesproken die met ingang van het jaar 2005 worden ingevoerd. Er gaan stemmen op om de hervorming van het EUzuivelbeleid te vervroegen naar 2003. Dit rapport verkent de gevolgen van een aantal mogelijke hervormingen van het EU-zuivelbeleid zoals prijsverlagingen die eerder dan 2005 worden doorgevoerd en verdergaan dan de 15% prijsdaling die is voorzien in Agenda 2000. Ook het afschaffen van de quota komt aan de orde. Voor het doorrekenen van de gevolgen van de beschreven wijzigingen in het EU-zuivelbeleid is gebruikgemaakt van een aantal modellen waarover het LEI beschikt. De studie is met name gericht op ontwikkelingen op sector-en macroniveau in Nederland en de EU en niet op het individuele bedrijfsniveau. Voor de EU komen de gevolgen voor het EU-budget, de ontwikkeling van vraag en aanbod op EU-niveau en de implicaties hiervan voor de WTO-verplichtingen van de EU aan bod. Voor Nederland worden de gevolgen beschreven voor de structurele ontwikkeling binnen de Nederlandse melkveehouderij, de concurrentiekracht van de Nederlandse zuivelsector en het milieu.

De EU is een belangrijke speler op de wereldmarkt voor landbouwproducten. De EU is afhankelijk va... more De EU is een belangrijke speler op de wereldmarkt voor landbouwproducten. De EU is afhankelijk van de invoer van grondstoffen uit vele landen en exporteert hoogwaardige landbouwproducten. Er is behoefte aan een beter inzicht in de impact-op mensen, op de planeet en op de winst-van de EUhandel op voedselsystemen buiten de EU, met een focus op lage-en middeninkomenslanden (LMIC). Dit zal de EU helpen haar acties en beleid in andere richtingen te sturen, waar dit nodig wordt geacht om de Duurzame Ontwikkelingsdoelen te realiseren. The EU is a major player in the world market for agricultural products, both dependent on commodity imports from many countries, and exporting high-value agricultural products. There is a need to better understand the impact-on people, planet and profit-of the EU trade on food systems outside the EU, with a focus on Low-and Middle-Income Countries (LMIC). This will help the EU to steer its actions and policies in other directions where this is deemed necessary to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
