Although periodontal disease is of microbial etiology, the determination that periodontal tissue destruction is primarily due to the host response, has created areas of research directed at altering an individual's reaction to the bacterial challenge. This article is focused in discussing, in brief, the basics and application of the concept of immunology in periodontology. This article is aimed at reviewing the basics of Immunology which is an extremely important aspect of medical science and related to every individual's Health and Disease. Important aspects such as immunity itself, cells of the immune system, MHC and HLA systems, leukocyte functions, molecular biology, inflammatory mediators of the immune system and immunological aspects of periodontal diseases have been reviewed. A glance through this article may potentially revitalize and refresh the foundations of immunology in the reader's mind quickly.

Materials and methods: A cross sectional survey was conducted among all the 100 practicing dentists at Jaipur, Rajasthan from January 2015 to March 2015 including Post Graduate students of Rajasthan Dental College. Non practicing dentists were excluded. Data collection was done by the means of structured questionnaire for ergonomic factors. The variables evaluated were a) Gender b) Age c) professional background [qualification undergraduate (BDS) or post-graduate (MDS)] d)Awareness e) no of clinical hours f) Work environment g) Presence of pain h) measures taken to prevent the injury or pain i) number of leaves in a week Results: The large percentage of dentist adjust their chairs within normal levels (95%). Most of the dentist were familiar with the ergonomic posture (77%) It was observed that 66% of the participants had muscu...

The concept of which in simple words is that when one goes down to the bottom of things, one can discover unlimited possibilities and potential of the basic particle. Analysis can be made to the level of manipulating atoms, molecules and chemical bonds between them in nanotechnology.Nanotechnology is developing fast in recent years and like other medical fields it is also set to transform dentistry in a huge way. Periodontitis is a multifactorial polymicrobial infectious inflammatory disease of the tooth supporting structure. With upsurge of various treatment methodologies for treatment of periodontitis nanotechnology has evolved as a promising mode of treatment. It utilizes nanomaterials, nanobiotechnology and nanorobots for the treatment and maintenance of periodontal health. The purpose of this paper is to review the phenomenon of nanotechnology as applied to periodontics.

This study was conducted with the aim find out association of chronic periodontitis with serum lipid parameters. Study group consist of 30 cases of chronic periodontitis (case group) and control group consist of 30 healthy individuals. Age range was kept 25- 60 years to avoid extreme ages. Periodontal parameters including Plaque Index, Gingival Index, Probing Depth and Clinical Attachment Level were recorded. Lipid profile comprising of total cholesterol, Triglycerides, HDL- Cholesterol and LDL was assessed and co related with periodontal parameters. This study confirms significantly higher levels of mean cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL in periodontitis group as compared to healthy group. Also, there is significant negative co relation of HDL with probing depth...

Blood samples were taken to assess the levels of enzymes and minerals and periodontal disease was identified clinically by assessing probing depth and clinical attachment loss and bone loss confirmed by radiographs. Results: Results were presented as mean and standard deviation. The data were statistically analysed by means of the unpaired t test. Probabilities of less than 0.05 were accepted as significant. Conclusions: It was concluded that serum level of Alkaline Phosphatase was significantly elevated in patients with chronic periodontitis and can be considered as a biomarker for periodontal disease.

This case was a 30 years non smoker male with the chief complaint of growth of gum tissue, moderately large in the mandibular posterior region. On intraoral examination, a peduncalated growth of 17 x 12 x 6 mm on marginal and attached gingiva with respect to tooth number 47 considerably hard in consistency and movable was seen. The lesion was erythmatous having a smooth non ulcerated surface. It was asymptomatic with no sign of pain. Intra oral periapical radiograph was taken which revealed slight erosion of crest of bone which was later confirmed during surgical excision. The possible reason of crestal bone erosion may be constant pressure of the growth. Differential diagnosis of irritation fibroma, pyogenic granuloma and peripheral giant cell granuloma was considered. However, clinical appearance and consistency was of a hard fibrous growth, which therefore led to a provis...
